    Caroline is the perfect movie for children. If your children enjoy movies where terrifying spider-needle-ladies want to rip your eyes out and replace them with buttons-- then trap your soul in their evil magic realm for so long you forget who you are. In terms of kids movies, Coraline is pretty much at the top of the list of the creepiest out there. So how did the movie come to be? Why is it is so weird and creepy? What’s up with Other Mother agreeing to vague plot device games? Or creating entities that have free will and an understanding of good and evil? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to the hit stop-motion animation feature Coraline! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.

    I always assumed that Other Father and Other Wybie rebeled because they were staying true to their prime function. Other Father was created to love Coraline and Other Wybie was created to be her friend.

      Nice reasoning.

    • @ButterflyScarlet
      @ButterflyScarlet 4 ปีที่แล้ว +282

      I think it was just to give Coraline help, to make this movie more of an adventure instead of a straight up horror. In the book, Wyborn doesn't exist and Other Father doesn't help her. In the film, if they'd stuck to that plot it would have ruined the tone since Other Father was shown to be far more affectionate and easygoing.

      It is, I don't get why people think it's creepy, I mean I seen creepier things before and at least it isn't brutal like childhood nightmares, there aren't any deaths on screen. The only one who is hinted to die is the Bedlam because she needs to eat, I don't count the Ghost Children because they were already dead before the movie started.

See the movie two or three times more, and you'll enjoy it as the piece of art that it is.

      I don't wanna take away your thunder but I saw that when was about 8 and loved it; rewatched it all alone, then read the book (which is even scarier) all without nightmares or anything.

      My older friend showed me this movie 12 years ago when I was 9 and it scarred me for life. I only got the courage to rewatch it today, at 21 y/o. It's still as creepy as I remembered.
      The only difference is that I didn't know it was stop motion back then and now I was amazed at how detailed it was..

    I think other-wybie and other-father warned her, and other-mother agreed to the game, because the whole point was to manipulate Coraline into throwing the key down the well.
    The well was buried over for a reason, and the lid looks like a button from beneath. In other words, the Beldame is a witch of the well, and needed the key to be given to her in the physical world by free will.
    So... other-mother won and is now free to roam.
