Honestly to me the idea of faithful remakes just didn’t seem like a good one. If we want to play the originals we can just play the originals. The consumer base that wants remakes are the people who already played the original games but want to revisit it, and obviously those people have grown. I’d rather look at the original games being played, listen to the original music of the games, and just watch the original ones entirely, because BDSP doesn’t have anything else that’s particularly NEW compared to the originals besides mechanics like the exp share, affection, the new HM system which is welcome but still small compared to what i’d expect, and the new underground features. New underground features pretty much being the only real thing I’d be kind of excited for. They really should’ve gone the normal route of remakes like they did with FRLG and HGSS, adding new significant features, new things to do, new areas even. Making it feel more complete and expanded upon to satisfy the fans that played the originals who have matured a bit. I get Pokémon is generally intended for kids but at the same time if your consumers are aging and become a larger portion of who you’re selling to you need to cater to them anyway, and standards for games have gone up anyway so you can’t really dish out a game from more than a decade ago and expect it to hold up.
A faithfull remake of a game like ff7 would have been awesome and not this garbo kh plot that we got. And yet we get a faithfull remake of a game that needs actuall improvements what a timeline to be alive am i right?
I think the biggest disappointment for me is that they didn't include any features from Platinum. At all. I was at most hoping for a Delta episode involving Giratina, maybe expanding the plot a bit more and giving more much needed personality to Team Galactic. ORAS did it for Emerald, so I didn't see why it would be impossible for BDSP. At minimum, I was hoping for the smaller changes from Platinum to work its way into the game to make it a more enjoyable and cohesive experience. Unfortunately, it carried more of SwSh's bad traits and ultimately soured the game experience for me. As a diehard Gen 4 fan, I'm nothing but upset with this outcome.
yeah it really burns to have waited so so long for gen 4’s turn at remakes etc to be able to finally enjoy the generation in a new way that you could only imagine back in 2007 but they’ve completely relied on that nostalgia factor to get old fans’ money while clearly spending a mere fraction of that on the actual product itself lol I feel used tbh. There’s just no excuse when they make so much money from these games and the merch that follows them, I can’t even imagine what the company needs all that extra cash for if not to invest in the quality of their games??
You can really tell that this whole remake project was just an afterthought for them while they focused on Arceus; how could they, after making such AMAZING remakes for ORAS, drop the ball on it this much? I would’ve loved a Delta episode with Giratina, Darkrai, or God forbid, Arceus himself! I would’ve been fine as well with even tiny improvements, like the ones they made in Platinum! Why cant they seem to get it right?
I feel like the best way to deal with the EXP share is to have it be toggleable between 3 modes- off, active for one Pokémon, and active for the whole party
I'm fine with whole party as long as it can just be turned off. Besides they retained one easy way to influence Pokemon growth... Which is gen 8 (technically 7 because let's go) box anywhere mechanics. Don't want the rest of your party to grow while you're trying to grind Magikarp? Box em all except the main mon to train it.
My favorite way to deal with exp share from hacks I've played is to have lv caps based on your gym badges. Grindy in Pokemon was never fun for me, but neither is being overleveled and this generally fixes that issue.
I hate it when people bring up the "Pokemon was always easy" argument because there's a big difference between a game being easy, and a game being BRAINLESS. If you compare pokemon to like Dark Souls then yeah Pokemon is easy. But if a game literally plays itself, that defeats the purpose of playing the game LOL you're just watching an interactive video or movie at that point. Games like minecraft are obviously very easy even on hard difficulty, but even veteran players know to watch out for unlucky point blank creeper explosions or falling off a cliff. Or if they're trying to build a fancy project they need to collect rare blocks for it. Pokemon BDSP essentially plays like Minecraft Creative Mode. There's a complete absence of challenge to the game. Challenge =/= Difficulty, and it grinds my gears whenever people say it is.
To add to your point, easy or not, older games felt far more player driven. Your move choices, strategies and exploration for new items and secrets felt like they mattered. In new games you can just catch whatever and no exploration is needed(or, in cases like sword and shield, not even POSSIBLE), and your moves and strategies don't matter because your team ends up so overleveled you just one shot everything. And the post game is way worse too. It has no depth. Nowadays it's usually just "here do a story where we hold your hand start to finish for an extra legendary or something" as opposed to games like platinum, HGSS, Black and white and fire red and leafgreen where it felt like a whole new adventure full of stuff like the main game does.
I feel like this is a hyperbole. I’ve played every Pokémon game, I even played competitively with Smogon Singles back in the shoddy battle and early showdown days. I would say BDSP is significantly tougher than Pokémon games have been lately. I fainted twice at the beginning ish with the first gym, and later three times at Cynthia, who now has multiple healing items, and switches *a lot* (a lot of trainers in this game do, interestingly). I would say the easiest Pokémon games were probably X and Y or SuMo, but it’s not that big of a difference.
@@denialfalls2724 I don't believe that you've played competitively before and died TWICE before the Elite Four and THREE times to Cynthia. Pre-Elite Four, it's nearly impossible to lose ever.
@@gongshowjimmy557 Well it’s the truth. I picked Chimchar and had a hard time with the first gym. Don’t know what else to say, just how it is. Also, Cynthia’s Milotic combined with her Spiritomb stalled me out twice I think. Let’s not forget her overleveled Garchomp lol.
The Pokémon affection levels used to be an option in the Pokémon feature where you pet and feed them. That's unfortunate it doesn't seem to be optional. I feel like that's way worst than exp share.
You might be right! While I think the EXP Share hurts the entire experience, the affection BS doesn’t start becoming a noticeable thing on your team until around the sixth/seventh gym. However this is when the game is supposed to finally start providing a challenge, yet your team are now Gods because you have given them berries or whatever.
@@DrawciaGleam02 It's helpful, yes, but at the cost of difficulty. Any challenge you're supposed to have isn't really there because your pokemon just decides it doesnt want to faint. The complaint is the fact that it isn't optional. I have to go out of my way to stuff herbs down my teams throat before the E4 so they hate me. Which just makes me sad lol
"POKÉMON HAS NEVER BEEN A HARD SERIES! IT'S ALWAYS BEEN EASY SAM!" *glances nervously at B2/W2 where all it took was a bad type matchup with a random trainer or wild pokemon for your pokemon to get deleted*
@@TayKJ veteran trainers could easily knock out a pokemon or two if you're going in completely blind and end up with a bad type matchup. I used Lucario my first time around and around the midway point it got one shot a handful of times out of nowhere
In my opinion they went wrong when they decided to remake D&P instead of platinum. D&P were always just “lesser” versions of platinum to me and I think this is really visible here.
Going into the grass patches in each new route was always fun in newer Pokemon games because of the usually wide selection of Pokemon available. In BDSP it feels like the grass patches just exist to slow you down.
Agreed. And BDSP seems to be lazy in it. I have 4 gym badges and still I kept getting 95% Geodudes and Bidoof/Bibarels. 4 gym badges (which tells me I'm like halfway through the game) and ONLY geodudes and bibarels!
It never felt like I could ever meet new Pokémon so it’s hard to find a better team than what I started off with. Though I’m not having a simple time of using standard Pokémon against certain types. I actually have been switching out my Pokemon based on type. Though it definitely is hard considering how they don’t add any new Pokemon throughout the gameplay. Or any new or better Pokemon than what I’ve already obtained.
Thats not entirely BDSP's fault Its the original DP games that had this awful selection of pokemon And its this awful selection of pokemon that i believe DP are some of the weakest games in pokemon history And BDSP chose to follow in those footsteps instead of the highly improved platinum version
@@m.rakelinggara.2174 Back in Platinum, certain routes had Ralts, others had Houndour and Rhyhorns, others had Scythers or Swablus, etc. A faithful remake of a subpar game will of course, always lead to subpar results.
It's honestly kinda funny, but yeah these "remakes" have actually inspired me to go and properly play platinum, since I never _really_ played it (A friend had bought me an action replay around the time I got platinum, and I hacked the shit out of it.)
I was burnt out by that point, after playing Red, Yellow, Gold, and Ruby. I completely skipped Diamond and Black, restarting in X and then skipping Sun. Playing BDSP definitely feels....odd...

Yeah, while the Sword and Shield engine DEFINITELY has its issues, it at least would have been interesting to use Gen 5 and up Pokémon in BDSP (at least postgame) like you can in ORAS
@@TurnstyleVideo You forgot not all of the Pokemon couldn't fit into Sword and Shield. That's what you "fans" get for getting your expectations up so high.

@@ElectroBlastLuigi You do realise that was a bunch of garbage? Gamefreak isn't an Indie game company you know. Pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise and the company is more than capable with porting old pokemon to new titles. Funny how gamefreak can put all the pokemon from previous titles on the 3Ds (Gen 1-7) onto one cartridge (e.g: Sun and Moon/Ultra Sun and Moon), but for some reason can't on the Nintendo Switch? Even though the 3Ds is an old console? Even the side games from pokemon such as the mystery dungeon series was able to port pokemon from various generations and Mega evolution without problems. So the true reason is simple: laziness. Rush out a title each year, take away content, make excuses to cover it up. It doesn't take much research to prove that the models from the 3Ds titles were ported to Sword and Shields engine. Take a look.
@@nautgamingnautgaming9949 while i agree with your point and majority of what you have said I would like to point out however that the exp share can not be turned off in swsh too infact it was the first game to do this, and yes It was horribly overleveled playing swsh not to mention gyms were a breeze when you can just dynamax one shot everything. the affection mechanic was also present in swsh as swsh was the first game that gamefreak no longer separates happiness and affection. though I do feel like the issue/ chance of their 'power of love' effects happening is more prevalent in BDSP. Overal BDSP is terrible but lets also not neglect the fact that a lot of the things that make it a bad game was introduced in swsh
I avoided a lot of trainers just to prevent myself over leveling but the volume of trainers between the second and fourth gyms got me ahead in a way that I couldn’t make up for. That’s not to say that I don’t like the party exp system but it’s as you eluded to, there are simply too many trainers in this specific entry for this system to be balanced. The party exp would be a great end game item because the biggest reason I like it is for evolving the Pokémon I’ve collected to fill my Pokédex and for getting late game Pokémon on my team before the Elite Four without too much grinding. The system works great in late gen but not for the earlier games that were designed in a way where the player is expected to train their mons individually. The biggest crime here though is the affection system. Not only does it make the game easier than I want it to be but it also subjects me to additional animations and text which slows down gameplay. However I must say that I did enjoy the game and it was refreshing to go back to this kind of format after the over-openness of Sword/Shield.
As someone who didn’t play this when it first came out, I am really enjoying it. I JUST had that situation happen to me too between the 2 and 3rd gyms. But I ended up going to the computer and switched out my whole team and played with them through the third gym. ( I think) and I thought it was cool because I had a Kadabra and ended up switching him with Meditite because I had no idea that he is BOTH fighting and psychic. I love xp share because I’m not familiar with some of these Pokémon and if I see one I like along the way, I can get it caught up in no time!
I deliberately boxed my “main party” for the Elite 4 and used other lower level Pokémon that would gain the exp and make the game harder. The result was that my team was at a lower level which was good for making battles more difficult, but more than half my Pokémon in the box were at similar levels as the Pokémon I planned on using in the Elite Four which demonstrated that the exp share helps Pokémon level up SIGNIFICANTLY.
@@themrjosb good for you man. Its nice that you had fun with it. I don't mind the existence of exp share. What I do mind is it being forced upon me even when I dont want to use it
I'm so glad someone else had a problem with the affection system! I don't mind it being automatic since it makes sense that the more time your spend, the more your Pokemon will love you, but my problem is all the freaking text boxes. "Houndoom is awaiting your directions"- Yeah, I know, that's how a battle works!
I remember after I presented my reasons as to why I didn't like how BDSP looked, people were telling me I would STILL buy these games cause "it's Pokemon". Here we are, nearing the release of Legends Arceus and I STILL don't give a f*ck about these ugly remakes. Imagine being able to get full fledged stunning 3D remakes with a mix of SwSh/Let's Go graphics but polished AND maybe some voice acting to add life to these games, and instead settling for this funkopop/playmobil looking garbage. But I absolutely cannot blame Ilca, I blame game freak and nintendo for thinking we NEED a pokemon game every single year. I would've been fine with waiting for another year or 2 for actual GOOD remakes of these games. Hyped for Legenda Arceus though and also curious as to what gen 9 is going to look like. HOPEFULLY they'll have voice acting!
It sounds counterproductive, but I got these games just so I can tell those sheep that say “you just haven’t played it” that I did play it. It plays worse than the original Diamond and Pearl. It’s now becoming more of a fact: without the full national Pokedex in the game, the flaws and problems are easier to spot.
@@manoftruth0935 There's no point in buying a game, just to tell people that you, in fact, do own it. Those people aren't gonna care or listen to whatever the opposition will have to say.
@@yanyanzhang5813 it would only suck for people who don't value quality in video games, literally almost EVERY game nowadays has voice acting to a certain degree, they bring life to these games and allow for a story telling that keeps you invested. Dragon Quest XI is a perfect example of that :p
World of Final Fantasy is a game that has chibi models (specifically, ones that look like Funko Pops), but the important ones are all super expressive, with facial expressions and wild gestures.
Exactly! I think WoFF actually looks quite cute and high quality despite it being a similar style “lower budget” FF game. Another example of a chibi remake from Nintendo is Links Awakening. That game takes GBC sprites and imagines everything in 3D and look how much leaps and bounds better it looks compared to BDSP.

But at least with Link's Awakening they *actually tried*. BDSP took this unnecessarily risky move when the tried-and-true style of Gen 6-8 was already there, and they didn't even attempt to make it work at all.
I feel like a lot of the issues of this game come from Game Freak / Nintendo just being stuck in their ways. They just don't learn. The xp share was an issue in Sword and Shield too. They didnt fix any leveling issues in ORAS either, but they made it interesting by including features from Emerald as well as XY, even going a step further with Zinnia and Mega Rayquaza.

honestly my biggest gripe with the exp share was when i caught a feebas in mount coronet and wanted to put a milotic on my team. however feebas was lvl 15 and my team was around 42. and i trained that feebas up but that also raised the levels of ALL MY POKEMON TO LVL 50 until feebas was sort of caught up which made my pokemon so grossly over leveled. it was the worst.
@@305backup yeah but the thing is you shouldnt have to do that, the exp curve should fall off for higher level pokemon like in b2w2. Its just annoying to have to do stuff like this just to make the game any way challenging
4:50 They're not the same thing. BDSP actually did it worse. In the originals, you see your player Overlaying, not Overlapping. That gives the illusion of you passing by. There was no weird mixture of Yours and Barry's sprites. But in BDSP, they literally made you phase through him.
15:23 I think this is a major reason I and many others just fell off of pokemon either after or before X and Y. We're now playing a monster collecting game with many party members options, yet the game never encourages you to do so. You can beat the game with one Pokemon easily, so why catch any of them?
Oh man so I’ve thought about this at length. One thought I had, which I’m sure would be wildly divide, would be to restructure the games so that progression relies on having certain Pokémon in your party. They kinda flirted with this with riding Ryhorn or Mantine, but I would expand it to multiple options. Dark cave? Bring a Fire type or electric Pokémon with you, each had a different effect to help you through. Or just have a non with flash. Traversing a Rocky Mountainside? Rock or ground, or maybe even Psychic or fighting have a way to get you up as well, depending on the mon. Make it so a Pokémon that sucks competitively has some story relevance, or helps you progress in the story. It seems like such a missed opportunity when half the depictions of Pokémon in the anime and games is to assist humans with everyday life things…
"You can beat the game with one Pokemon easily..." Depends on what Pokemon you choose to use. Mah Dry Bread and other solo runners have experience crazy difficult battles in their career.....
I disagree the cynthia fight this gen was one of the hardest fights I have ever had. but other than that I 100% agree honestly If I wanted to speed run pokemon I would just chose bulbasaur or tepig or fennekin I wouldn't have to put much thought into it in the end. But the 3d era has by far been the worse when it comes to that yeah I could still beat most games with just one mon but with things like affection and exp share its just ridiculous now. And I don't even mind those features but I wish there was a way to turn them off in the end
Something I noticed while emulating Shining Pearl was that that the reason why the analog controls are trash is not because the environment is not well made for it but rather the analog stick acts more like a really jank dpad. The 8 directions have large areas mapped on the stick while having a few small areas in-between those that are freely mapped. Because of this, you will often accidentally go to far and hit the diagonal. What makes it funnier is that this is the exact same reason why moving units in the original Starcraft is jank, the Warcraft 2 engine was never designed with diagonals. The exact same problem is occurring.

I was bored out of my mind and was ultimately very disappointed with the quality and I’m happy someone is finally making a video like this. My feelings feel validated. Thank you!
Something else super unfun and clunky about the menu, is that new items are placed randomly in their pocket. Not at the bottom, not where you are at the moment in the bag. It just dumps it in a random spot. So, you either have to sort it, hope you remember the general order of how things are supposed to go, and find it from there, or scroll up or down and hope that you went the right direction to find and use the new item.
Actually not really, but i see how it can seem like that. Every new item you get goes at the bottom of the bag like usual, but even if you use them all; if you were to get that same item again, it’ll be in the same spot in the menu as when you first got it, going above any items you’d have got after that. Still kinda unusual though
Whilst I agree with almost everything in this video, you don't have to use the Poketch to use Fly, it can be done in the town map. The only thing you have to use the Poketch for 100% is Defog.

On the note of the Exp Share gen 1 actually had a predecessor in the Exp All, it was a key item in the bag and split exp through the whole party. For example if you beat a Pokemon and get 600 exp the Exp All would give each party member 100

Yeah, the main issue of modern Exp Share is that it gives you more Exp compared to it being unused, unlike Gen 1 or if you have 5 Exp Shares, that the base Exp gain is distributed, making it a party balance. I guess they supposedly balanced it now so it feels forced Exp gives a 50-10-10-10-10-10 feeling but it doesn't seem to be the case and still should be optional.

It was a reward for actually going out of your way and catching as many Pokemon as you can (and in that case, you would want an EXP share, because you have so many different Pokemon).

Just something I've had with my own experience, I'm currently playing through BD since I was given it, and something I've noticed (Since I've played Platinum recently, I've noticed this), a lot of the NPCs are actually lower level- there was one trainer I remember in Platinum that absolutely demolished my team since I was unprepared, and her Torterra in BD is a Grotle, at almost 8 levels lower than it was in Platinum, and so was the other trainers at that point. So the actual levels of the trainers is far lower in BDSP, which was honestly disappointing. When I started playing, I remembered that one NPC and was prepared for when I'd have to fight her, but I was disappointed once I got there, that it wasn't that same really painful point. Also the fact I didn't have any pokemon know Defog in Platinum (I found it pointless), which made the battles on that route really painful, since barely any moves hit, on either side of the battle thanks to the fog lowering accuracy. This wasn't a problem in BDSP?? I could fight fine, without any adverse effects, (I missed getting it on the poketch, so I went through the route blind), and all the battles were fine, no accuracy changes.

PC is obviously way more flexible for serious emulation purposes, but the Wii U nails the tactile aspect of playing D/P and HG/SS with two screens, and it really feels like a proper experience. The compatibility with randomized ROMs is a big factor in that as well, I like to boost trainer difficulty and rebalance the game to my tastes. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone ever figured out how to get Gen 5 games working with Loadiine, because they have DSi integration that would require a workaround to properly boot. The Wii U was cheap when I got one though, so it's a neat console that's easy to mod, and has tons of backwards compatibility, even playing Gamecube games if you use a homebrew app.
When the remakes were announced live I was soo hyped right up until the prototype gameplay started. It was heart shattering seeing a long wished remake get worse treatment than almost every other title in the franchise. I came to love the chibi style and the over world graphics, but the game didn't feel special whatsoever. It felt like they'd just wanted to appeal to the hype for a quick buck so they reskinned the games and littered them with bugs and the annoying newer features being mandatory. I was hoping we'd see BW2 or ORAS level stuff, but instead it was that disappointment followed directly after by Legends Arceus. If they manage to majorly fuck up Legends Arceus I'm dropping from the series.
I have absolutely no hype for Legends Arceus, it just looks like one more bland Pokémon game with a bigger map. I hope I'm wrong tho, since it isn't developed by Game Freak, but by Nintendo themselves.
@@zurkke Man Arceus looks pretty low-budget for real. If it was an indie game it would deserve some praise but from Nintendo looks shabby and lazy. Looks more like Gamefreak than Nintendo.🤣
@@goldman77700 Yeah fr, it really looks like something held by duct tape, it better have a decent story or anything that stands for it, otherwise I won't even bother. Of course it will sell well nonetheless, it's goddamn Pokémon, and that's what triggers me. They can try to "Breath of the Wild-en" every franchise they want to, but without a decent budget and an established lore and with a rushed schedule they'll never be able to.
Really sad they didn’t go the ORAS route and add in the generation’s gimmick like they did mega evos. It would have been so cool to see G-max Gastrodon or Staraptor or something. I feel like they really missed their opportunity :(
Also about being overleveled. I was trying so hard not to be overleveled that I was constantly switching my team around. By the time I got to the 6th gym I had 2 AND A HALF BOXES OF LEVEL 40+ POKEMON. Byron strongest Pokemon is a level 39 Bastiodon
@@KenanVonKaiser They aren't. I'm not sure if he's exaggerating the amount but i just got done with Crasher Wake's gym and all my pokemon are level 35 already, which is 5 levels past his ace. I also don't defeat wild pokemon, run when I encounter them, and fight all the trainers. That's it.
I discovered jrpgs with games like Pokémon Emerald and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga back in my mid teens and became deeply engrossed with them. I scratched the itch with other games like the Final Fantasy series and eventually Persona and Megami Tensei as a whole. Platinum was the last entry I beat before the series kinda just fell off my radar. It's interesting to see what the series is up to now and how Nintendo has been missing the mark with it latest entries. Kinda sad to see it in its current state. Great video. Y'all definitely need more recognition with your level of production.
One thing I never understood is why Pokémon doesn’t have difficulty settings. Would it be that hard to curve trainers Pokémon levels on every route and gym by like 3-5 levels in the early game. Just have it as a setting in the beginning.
Simple, difficulty setting is online competitive play. You want a challenge, you face off against opposing players as it's always been. The story is meant to entice new audiences who's first pokemon game will be this, because in 10 years, they'll be obsessing over bdsp and be hoping for a remake of this game as this was their intro, and much like every player, the intro pokemon game is your favorite pokemon game.
@@jish55 the only reason I see someone wanting a remake of this game is so they can fix it, and an difficulty setting is still a better option than just competitive, not everyone wants competitive, especially in pokemon where competitive is incredibly difficult to get into, people just want a challenging enough game, it's the minimal
Black and White 2 has a challenge mode. It's pretty much a harder version of the game, leaders have more and better mons, etc. You have to beat the game first though, but it was a good step forward.
@@jish55 Not everyone wants to sit there grinding EV's and IV's or simulate what items and natures to use to build the perfect omega chad team for a challenge bruh, some just wanna have some substance and actual thought in the main campaign's gameplay, it also helps the storytelling in the sense that why take any big boss in the campaign like the head enemy or the champion seriously? through their teams being actually a serious deal.
I just don't understand why they couldn't keep all the changes of platinum and then slap the diamond and Pearl coat of paint onto it in order to sell 2 games. They already had a definitive edition and deliberately chose to remake inferior (By the creators standard!!) games and it makes no sense
@@tomfoolery7797 at least ORAS had a FUCKTON of new things to discover and experience... Its just sad that Game Freak doesnt recognize that players dont want a remake to be the same as the original game. They want a game with a bit new story but with a similar gameplay to the original one. For example, the introduction of mega evolutions was a huge improvment in the gameplay (because it was a new funny mechaninc), but the EXP share changes and the affection mechanics just screwed everything, making every new pokemon games just too easy to be boring.
@@ancientthunder2842 I wouldn't say a fuck ton of new things, more like the bare minimum. Though I guess BSSP didn't even get that and is just straight up a down grade from Platinum in every single way.
@@tomfoolery7797 to be fair with oras it at least felt like they tried and pushed new features and ideas utilizing a superior engine than its predecessors it actually felt like a 3ds game with BDSP it feels like a mix between ds and 3ds game slapped into a switch. Its like when you fill a cup with water, ORAS pushed what it could do and filled its small cup with its old and then added more on top to fill it all the way, BDSP feels like they grabbed something from a smaller cup (ds) and threw it into a bigger cup (switch) making it seem unfilled and kinda cheaply done.
@@sorrowfulrose3082 That's fair. I have heard people say it looks more like a mobile game rather than an actual remake for the switch. I still wonder why they didn't just use the Let's go aesthetic if they wanted to go a more chibi route.
Honestly, having both Affection and EXP Party Share becoming mandatory is what's killed the franchise for me with the move to Switch. In the 3DS games, Affection was a separate mechanic you could only access with the Pokemon Amie mini game, and at least when they gave you the EXP Share in SuMo it was able to be turned off. Both of these mechanics, as well as the ridiculous power of the bloody Exp Candies in SwSh, make both of the main series G8 Pokemon games laughably easy. At least Let's Go has some interesting mechanics with the capturing and is fun/easy to Shiny hunt in, I would genuinely rather play Let's Go than try playing the main story of Sword again. Also it's refreshing to hear this take, I struggled immensely to get through BD and I couldn't put my finger on why. I'd come to the conclusion that maybe I'm outgrowing the series, but no, I think what you're saying is much closer to how I feel. I want to enjoy Pokemon again, but it's hard to enjoy a game where I don't really have any real challenge thrown my way.

Affection isn't mandatory. and hasn't really been needed, plus pokemon games have never been challenging in the first place. even the soo called difficulty selector in BW2 didn't even make thigns hard.
@@Yusei255 Technically so, though trying to avoid gaining affection is pretty tedious since just walking around with your Pokemon raises its affection.
You said to not put the whole blame on ilca and yeah i agree Its also partially game freak's fault for outsourcing this game TO ilca in the first place, giving a less than well-equipped, well-experienced company less than enough time to develop a game that was no where near good, hoping that fans would get a small taste of nostalgia before giving us arceus just 2 months later When they COULD HAVE instead, pushed arceus back one or two years and developed bdsp themselves and create a game that is at least as good as oras or hell even swsh was better than bdsp and those were the more weaker modern pokemon games Needless to say ilca did not do these games justice and its not completely their fault. Its like asking a med student to perform brain surgery and blaming them when they fail.
I actively switched out my whole team before entering victory road to not over level for the elite 4 and that way Lucian and Cynthia were monsters to me as they out leveled me and I didn’t stock on super strong moves and my Pokémon were only what I wanted to try and weren’t balance It was really fun to come up with strategies for Cynthia with whatever I had on me
So you forced yourself to weaken your Pokemon. No wonder why Pokemon games are too hard for some of you just like back when we were kids when we didn't understand the concept of leveling up Pokemon to beat opponents (the whole point of battling)
@@ElectroBlastLuigi Pokémon games never been hard in casual play-through, I love challenge in my games but I am mostly a casual player, so I forced myself to be under level and didn’t prepare more than I had to (didn’t go out of my way to find the best items or TMs and didn’t plan ahead although I ruffly knew what is coming) It is more fun for this way The first time I fought red and won, my team was at the sixties or seventies for example, and it took time and many attempts to come up with decent strategy to win with low level Pokémon
@@ElectroBlastLuigi what he is saying is he never allowed any pokemon to level on purpose because the exp share made it too easy. In other words, he got around the one thing everyone is complaining about, made the game hard and enjoyed it.
@@305backup Good for him but that still doesn't change the fact that this feature made things easier for everyone. Even I keep my exp share on in older games (I mean before XY, before anyone misinterprets my statement) and they're still hard Pokemon games. I was one of those kids who grew up playing Pokémon Red and Blue. Your spot on I quit Pokémon after Gold and Silver I fell out of it. I felt I was too cool for Pokémon anymore. Pokémon Diamond and Pearl came out when I was a senior in High School ignored it because I felt it was for kids. You know whats funny? I’m now a 30 year old man and I bought Brilliant Diamond without ever playing the original DS versions. Gives me something to do with this pandemic going on.

Sameee. I didn’t think it was more cool but I was a teenager doing teenager things. Kind of glad I got to play BDSP. Black and White remakes are next lol
the only thing that ever threatened my squad in shining pearl was when i taught my infernape flare blitz, my infernape lost more damage to that than it did to nearly any trainer 💀
I kind of liked the full party exp share as it allowed my entire main party in Sun to see frequent battle rather than the two to four I bothered to train before getting fed up. But I liked it as an option. I didn't have it on all the time and didn't want it on all the time. It also screws with EV training for people who want to do that. It's also particularly bad here being slapped into a game it was never intended for with no thought at all.
@@dsshocktrooper7523 You know a couple of years ago I would have tried to argue with you on that. But given the two worst games in the entire series have been some of the best selling (this and Sword/Shield) you're right.
There are tons of games that use Unity, and they look great. My favorite is Digimon World Next Order, so the engine is by no means the fault. What is, is Gamefreak. They are literally like the EAs and Activisions of the world. Because they own a franchise that people just love and will continue to buy no matter what, they don't have to bother to do anything and people will still shell out money for them.
Absolutely, Unity is simply a tool. I only cite it because there are a lot of cheap and fast Unity projects that all have this same plastic somewhat glossy look to them. BDSP would’ve been half assed in any game engine.
The moment they made a point of the fact that BDSP were going to be "Faithful recreations" of the original games, i fucking called it that this was going to happen. I'm legitimately terrified to see how they'll handle the inevitable BW remakes.
@Ik yeah, pretty much. Tbh, im not expecting them to get anywhere near the same lvl of story telling that the pokemon adventures manga has. Like, gen 1, pokemon adventures yellow had this "humans hurting pokemon" plot with lance being the final bad guy because he genuinely hated how pokemon were being hurt because of polution and stuff and wanted to use lugia to "take out" all humans.
I mean, is it really that surprising? The first time they announced the games or just confirmed that they were being made i quickly knew it was goin to be a dissapointment. I have zero faith in Masuda since he is the one supervising this game.
I did a no capture right off the bat because I expected it to be easy for myself having had 7k+ hours in sinnoh as a kid, so it was harder to notice the exp growing not having a full team at every point. But after the 4th gym the leveling hit hard and suddenly I did three gyms back to back without a k.o. on my end. By the time I got to the electric gym it felt more like pushing through the gym than fighting through
I haven’t played it yet. Could you maybe elaborate? Like does your whole party really gain exp so much / quickly and so easily that you can boringly back-to-back gyms?
God damn that hurts - I started playing Platinum on an emulator some time after the remakes were released, and I've challenged myself to build a gimmicky B-list team. It's not been easy and it's been my favourite playthrough so far! I can only recommend doing that to anyone feeling nostalgic.
@@TurnstyleVideo Toxicroak, Hippowdon and Bronzong are all pretty good Pokemon, and think they could all make an A-list team easily. Don’t know an awful lot about Lumineon, but I’ve seen a few people use it and it doesn’t seem all that bad.
I'll admit I was so excited and optimistic for this game as DP was my favorite region/Pokemon game. The sheer disappointment I was met with while playing, was real. I'm personally a fan of certain elements of newer Pokemon games, such as the exp share going towards ALL the Pokemon in my party, and I personally love the affection level aspect of it. Though I'm aware most players dislike this. However, I was looking for something new, something exciting in this remake and the underground just didn't cut it for me. The game is basically just a word for word remake of the original games, with low quality graphics, a fair amount of bugs and horrific chibi models. I got this game for Christmas so I can't say I personally wasted money on it. But I do feel bad for the person who bought it for me. I can only hope Legend of Arceus is a better game...
I think party Exp Share is fine but it should be optional and be more flexible. Have the default be only 1 gets Exp, then have options to give to as many Pokemon in the party you want. Don't increase Exp by having it on and just do other ways to accelrate Exp gain (like Exp Candies, especially for post-game). They made it all-or-nothing with Gen 6 and 7 but now it's all in Gen 8.
I liked the game. Now I didn’t play the original DP game, but I still find this game a joy to play. I’m definitely in the minority who thinks this sadly
I feel like if they gave random trainers EV, and IV trained poemon, with better moves for coverage and even egg moves it could fix the problem. Another thing they could do is stop releasing games every year, so they could have more time to put all the pokemon in the games, that way the A.I trainers could have more variety in pokemon, and teams. Been playing since the Red, blue and yellow days, it gets so boring to see that all the beginning pokemon trainers will use the same pokemon. For example rattata you'll have like 4 trainers in a row using rattata, and maybe a pidgey, when there are like 10 more pokemon that you can catch on that route. They should double the wild pokemon catchable on that route, and make the trainers use a mix of the wild pks available on that route so you can see what you can get, when you're able to get pokeballs.
I would legitimately say that, if anyone still has their copy of Platinum and a means to play it, that's a better option than these boring slogs. The old overworld spritework mixed with 3D environments is charming. These chibified imitations of that are not. FR/LG had Sevii Islands, HG/SS had the new westward routes and Safari Zone (among other new areas), OR/AS had the Delta episode, the new flight mechanic, new visual differences from the original like Mauville now being a big mall... BD/SP really only has the new areas in the Grand Underground, and that's not enticing enough.
@@TurnstyleVideo you can also use rock smash and strength by just pressing the A button on the rock...but I also agree the poketch is still as garbage as ever
I played this game with hacks to stop Exp. Share and affection, it was actually fun. Before they came out I played normally and it was a chore and a drag. Restarted with cheats and it boom, fun. As a dev though, this isn't Unity's fault. Unity is a very capable engine and no longer is synonymous with cheap indie games.
Oh, if only they had a difficulty setting that made it so you don’t have EXP share for the people that don’t want it so they don’t need to hack the game. Why don’t Pokémon games have a difficulty setting? I know black/white or maybe black/white 2 had it but that’s it.
Pretty much all the reasons I did not buy the game are summed up here, except for the fact that there’s no extra end game content. A “faithful remake” sounded really suspicious to me, so I decided to go with my gut and not even bother with getting the game since I still have my original platinum copy of the game. I also wholeheartedly agree that this game looks pretty abysmal for a game on the Switch. It is truly unfortunate that Game Freak rushed a remake that they know wasn’t what many fans wanted. It didn’t need to run the Sword and Shield engine, but expanding on the world and story just like they did with ORAS was what many of us wanted. I don’t like to blame ILCA for a lot of what happened because even if they developed it, I’m confident that Game Freak oversaw and approved of the game as it progressed. It’s clear ILCA wasn’t given the resources and it’s clear that Game Freak had no intention of sticking to their typical trend of creating remakes on the current engine. DPPT is seriously loaded with Pokémon world building and history and it would have been so easy to expand on what is already known, but all they essentially did was poorly slap on a new coat of paint.
BDSP defiently had stronger trainers and better ui. A lot of it was midigated due to the xp share and affection mechanic. However. Even though they did some right they did a lot more wrong. Which is unfortunate
as someone in his mid 30s, to me the game is just lazy. Yes, they remastered it with new visuals, but they didn't learn from the issues with Sword and Shield or the original release or Diamond and Pearl. The game still suffers from moves being half animated like in Sword and Shield, and the type coverage of wild pokemon and Gym/E4 trainers is downright abysmal. Flint only has 2 fire Pokemon on his initial team, and up until the post game you only have access to around 10 fire type pokemon through out the entire game. It should have been remastered to flesh out the routes a bit more with more pokemon. Imo the game should have expanded the initial roster from 150 to close to 250/300, with the national dex bringing it to close to 600. There are too many routes with repeat pokemon.
I was deciding what new Nintendo switch game I should buy last month. I chose Shin Megami Tensei 5 over Pokemon BD/SP. I can say this is one of the best decisions I've made in 2021.
"Just play platinum!" Yep. Precisely. Or alternatively... Play Pokemon Renegade Platinum. A rom hack of Pokemon Platinum that adds all 493 pokemon, fairy typing, addresses balance issues, and obviously its harder than base game. It also adds its own events to expand on the story and experience overall as well. I recommend giving it a spin if no one has yet.
What you said at the beginning of the video... As a big fan of pokemon (started in gen 4 btw) I was torn between buying The remake and buying Smt V. But I finally picked smt V because I somehow knew gamefric (fric means money in colloquial French. yes I made a frenglish inside joke) would dissapoint me and I’m glad I didn't spend my money on this excuse of a game. Plus smt V is good so far. It's my first *REAL* shin megomey tensay game ehe.
I actually enjoyed the game. Diamond/Pearl was my first game, and being able to have to strategize for the champion, walking through real routes and caves (cough sword and shield) cities that aren’t empty, as well as more stuff to do postgame than sword/shield, sun/moon, etc. it was enjoyable for me. I really didn’t like two things 1. The bike on fast, super clunky 2. The poketch, also super clunky
BDSP are easily the worst Pokemon games I've ever played. GameFreak wasn't bullshitting when they said this was a faithful remake. So faithful in fact, they recaptured my old feelings of Gen 4 being the worst gen of all (specifically Diamond & Pearl). And Sword & Shield were the worst I played before I got these games, but now, I'm replaying SWSH with a new sense of at least GF put some effort into those games as opposed to not a goddamn bit in these ones. Holy shit. And Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee are easily the best modern Pokemon games as despite being obvious nostalgia baiting cash grabs, they had genuine effort and love put into them, and the games are seriously fun to play. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. And bro, yes, buy Shin Megami Tensei V. It's sooooo good
And there are still people defending bdsp. I get that people like these cashgrab games, but because they like/dont mind the faults doesnt mean that the game is good and doesnt deserve criticism. I got attacked in a comment section by a guy who was having a mental breakdown about people criticizing a game. These pokemon fans rot my brain.

I enjoyed it, I just love playing pokemon games no matter what.. tho I agree with the vid the easiness makes it a bit boring when the team is consistently 10 levels higher
Honestly I really love bdsp, and its one of my favorite switch games atm. Ive played 80+ hours so far and its one of my favorite switch games. Sure it has its faults, but for the most part, they aren't too bad for me.
I feel the same way. I’m just under 40 hours in and am scaling Mount Coronet. I have had the same exact team since whatever the first route was that Ponyta could be found in. My team right now is Empoleon, Luxray, Crobat, Rapidash, Jirachi, and Drifblim. I am the kind of person who tends to over-level in Pokémon games, so the EXP Share does control that for me. I keep my Pokémon in rotation and their levels are pretty much equal. However, it really should be optional and I do not understand why Gamefreak insists on making it mandatory. Maybe it’s because I’m a casual Pokémon fan, but these games are perfectly fine to me. The style is cute, but I agree that the chibi models do look a bit dumb during cutscenes. The analog stick controls absolutely do stink. But those aspects don’t take away from the experience for me. I’m enjoying it. I understand the criticism these games get, and deservedly so in some cases, but I am happy to enjoy them in my way.
Honestly I heard BDSP has an amazing post game with super hard Gym leader battles, I do agree that they should have rebalance the trainers and gym leaders if they were going to add that dumbass ex share, but besides that I think it's a fun remake. Especially after how much a piece of garbage Sword and Shield is.
I was super critical of the games before release but when I started playing it felt great! Yeah it’s easy but every Pokémon game is unless you severely handicap yourself lol. From someone who didn’t like ORAS, this is an ok remake
Catching a shiny Shaymin before the event was the most challenging and lengthily part of this game. I didn't lose a single battle and I beat Cynthia due to an RNG focus band. I also beat it in around 20 hours
Regarding the Experience Share, I think it's less a problem of the item existing (the sheer number of Pokemon at this point means that it's such a pain in the ass to level up new ones you're better off getting a team finalized relatively early so you aren't wasting time and resources leveling up Pokemon you won't actually use. I see the utility as a quality of life device, but its current implementation is... what it is. I think you'd fix the whole problem by going back to the Gen 5 level system, where underleveled Pokemon get an experience boost (making it easier to train them up to where you need them to be) but overleveled Pokemon have an experience handicap (making it harder to overlevel them-- still possible, but you really have to go out of your way) encouraging more team rotation and experimentation. Applying this in newer games would substantially help with the fundamental issue of brainless overleveling through regular play while still making it easier to bring new Pokemon up to speed to try out new team structures. Alas, the current design philosophy is high reward for minimal effort because mobile games have ruined people's attention spans. And people are going to keep buying Pokemon games regardless of basically anything so there's no incentive to change course. Sad state of affairs. Pokemon really deserves better.
Pretty sure that is how it works now. Underleveld pokemon gain more and overleved pokemon gain less. That system is in right now with the exp. all. Maybe what it needs is more of a tweak to the boost and the handicap
I could excuse all of it if they didn't keep the ridiculous chibi style. It served a purpose in Gen 4 and the sprite work on the trainers and Pokemon looked great. But it's so jarring to me see the chibi people on the screen transform into really nice 3rd models. Especially since they were not chibi in let's go or any of the other gen 8 games
@@MagicalBread But TPC could've funded it more...did you think ILCA pushed making a Sinnoh remake rather than GF suggesting to TPC to shift responsibility to another company?
The chibi style is the least of the game's issues. Sure, it's annoying to see, but if the game itself was good, I could have forgiven it. The reverse isn't true: if the game looked amazing, but the base mechanics were the same, it would be crap as well.
"In the older pokemon games you at least had to change pokemon and figure out which one is best for the battle." Did you though? Just about EVERYONE I knew used only their starter the entire game, since you'll end up super over leveled if you do this and one hit KO everything. The games actively punished you for trying to play them "correctly," as trying to maintain a balanced team took significantly more grinding than just using your starter. EXP share at least fixes this issue.
Well technically you don't have to do anything in Pokemon in order to win. Many TH-camrs have proven you can beat all the mainline games soloing with almost any shit-tier Pokemon AND with no items. However, these runs require a certain level of game knowledge well beyond that of the average player. And in the many of One-mon only runs I did as a kid who didn't know how to play Pokemon, I'd be able to get decently far only to come up against a gym / elite 4 member that countered my one-mon team. Maintaining a balanced team does not require this unbelievable amount of grinding everyone claims it does. This is because if your team IS balanced, you would only send out a Pokemon if it was super effective against the opponent, meaning that even if it was a couple levels below the AI it can still compete more than well. And if it does fail, well that's what the other members are for.
"The games actively punished you for trying to play them "correctly," as trying to maintain a balanced team took significantly more grinding than just using your starter. EXP share at least fixes this issue." I've encountered this with some fangames. Sadly, these are ones that everyone is basically praising right now.....😒 Basically, you have issues grinding if you try training more than 6 mons. I know my playstyle is a minority one, but I do this because I'm afraid of encountering a boss with a Pokemon that wipes half my team within two minutes.....
unless you have knowledge of competitive battling, luck and a shit ton of items its impossible to beat the game with one pokemon I tried doing it in platinum I chose piplup and could not get past the grass gym without catching a starly. most of the TH-camrs that beat pokemon games with one pokemon either need to be very overleveled or pp stall gym leaders teams
Yeah honestly there was only 2 challenging parts of the entire game for me. My battle with Cynthia cause her team is way better composed than the other elite 4 members and I was 10 levels under her and the battle tower. At least they threw us competitive players a bone with that mode, especially if you don't use any legendary mons.
I have never played Pokémon before but watching these videos makes me feel sad for the Pokémon fans who have to deal with these new entries. Hoping Arceus is good and enjoyable for you guys.

Liking these features are fine. The problem, is not having the OPTION to turn those off for those who don't. There are always two sides of people and it's the devs' responsibility to put in the option for both sides of people.
I feel like if you need to grind in the old pokemon games, something is wrong with your team. I usually beat games like emerald, platinum, and b2w2 being like 13 levels under the champion. I honestly prefer the exp share being a held item, but sadly we'll never get that back so the best we can ask for is the option to disable the exp all.
@@flareonguy7922 This. Having the OPTION to turn the exp share(and the affection mechanic or, anything that's controversial) on/off for individual pokemon in the team, would stave off all these criticisms.
@@flareonguy7922 yeah, for me, the only one i had to grind was platinum, and even then, it was all because i was going blind and wasnt prepared for cynthia, so all i needed was like 3 or 5 levels on each pokemon, done.
@@neonoah3353 There is also grinding to fight Red in the Johto games, but in crystal you can get away with fighting him with a team of pokemon around level 54 or 65 in HGSS.
Pokémon became offensively easy once it had turned 3D. With the new EXP share, I literally only train my starter and use the rest of my team slots to evolve pokémon to fill the pokédex. My starter single-handedly beat the league in X bc it reached lvl 100 before badge 7. BORING
Pokémon BDSP feels like a remaster rather than an actual remake. It should be called Pokémon Diamond + and Pearl +, not Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. I feel like these games were sabotaged in favor of developing Pokémon Legends: Arceus. It’s sad BDSP didn’t get the HGSS or ORAS treatment since Pokémon Pearl was my first Pokémon game that I’ve always wanted a real remake of. Now, I just hope that Legends Arceus is good.
P.S. If you really want a good Gen 4 experience with some of the modern mechanics implemented (like the Fairy Typing & new moves) then I suggest you play Renegade Platinum by Drayano. Or if you're aren't bothered by playing the old GBA style games and want to experience how Pokemon should meant to be played, then I suggest Pokemon Unbound and Blazing Emerald. Right now, the romhackers are putting way more love to the Pokemon games than all the games released by GameFreak since Gen 6 put together.
One thing I’m hating while playing the game is that I’m about to fight the 4th gym and the route before it it had like level 20-ish Pokémon and the trainers even having like max level 25 if they only have one pokemon and my lowest level is level 33 and I have a whole team, so I really wish there was less exp Gained because I like the exp share, but the amount of exp everyone gets is a bit much
I haven’t played Pokémon since the last remakes and DP being the first ones I ever played in middle school I immediately fell in love with bdsp, that being said at least for me, it did it’s job while anticipating the PLA and the potential gen 9 game this year
This was my first time playing Sinnoh, and I really liked the game! Since this is my first time playing, it’s pretty much just a new game to me, and seeing the “new” pokémon and “new” region was fun. People like gen IV so much for a reason, and I see why now. I can definitely see why this would be a bad game for anyone who played (and even replayed) the original diamond, pearl, and platinum, but for me, it was a good time. This game is making me want to learn how to emulate so I can play Platinum, sinnoh is just so good!
"What are you worried about, you're ten levels higher!?" is a perfect demonstration of why the exp share and the affection system not only don't work as individual mechanics but actively work together to make the game worse
@@coltondraws6566 Quick reminder that people have had this complaint since gen 7. It's not recent, but in a way that is actually the biggest problem with it.
Everybody wanted Diamond and Pearl to be brought into the modern era like how Gold and Silver was, but instead we got a god awful "faithful remake" that actually removes a ton of content from the originals, gives us a butt ugly art style, etc.
I had little to no problem fighting most trainers and gym leaders during my playthrough of the game, I only got in trouble when I used underleveled new pokemon in gyms cause I actually wanted to challenge myself. The only time where my OG team was truly put to the test was when I fought the elite four and Cynthia. Heck the entire game was so easy till that point, it completely caught me off guard and resulted in my entire team getting one shotted by Aron's fucking Herracros who kept on spamming facade. Needles to say yes they should make the EXP share optional-
In the end, though, that's probably why it has so many problems. Given other factors, GameFreak probably made a list of rules a mile long for ILCA to work within, so there wasn't any room for innovation or adaptation. Combined with the likely smaller budget and total studio skill, it's not exactly a stretch to imagine what happened.
I liked it. I don’t care that you gain to much exp because I don’t have the time to grind. I just wish they’d put in some more effort in the animations, playing through sword and shield now, animation is lackluster aswell. What happened to the animation sets from colosseum, XD gale of darkness and stadium those games are like 10-12 years old and have waaaaay better animations even if they’re low res now
@@unofficialmeme5972 No. Play a game like monster hunter, just mash the attack button and watch yourself triple cart over and over again. There's a pretty glaring difference between games which require actual thought and clicker games which reward you for just clicking the same button literally 10,000 times BDSP is a pokemon clicker game. Mindless fun, but go in expecting no substance Previous games are just pretty easy. But if you send in your gyrados against a lantern, you're going to have a dead flying fish if it's not incredibly over leveled or has a specific setup as a counter (which requires thought)
You’ve gotta love that they just didn’t include all the major improvements of platinum that make Gen 4 actually good
Honestly to me the idea of faithful remakes just didn’t seem like a good one.
The remake should have been a pokemon platinum remake with an expanded post-game
DLC my friend
They did the same with ORAS by not including the battle frontier so this should have come as no surprise.
Finally someone else asks for a Delta episode scenario.
yeah it really burns to have waited so so long for gen 4’s turn at remakes etc to be able to finally enjoy the generation in a new way that you could only imagine back in 2007 but they’ve completely relied on that nostalgia factor to get old fans’ money while clearly spending a mere fraction of that on the actual product itself lol I feel used tbh.
@@fishinwizard6 I mean, ORAS could've included the Battle Frontier. Otherwise yeah, they were great remakes.
Platinum improved the dialogue a bit too, but they didn't include ANY of those.
Box em all except the main mon to train it.
my dude i even take on or off..
but as the devs over multiple games stated
they disagree with the decision to give us this option
This is the best way to go
you silly little goofball, that would mean that you get to have your OWN fun! this is Pokemon, you have to have SOMEONE ELSE'S fun!

In my opinion they went wrong when they decided to remake D&P instead of platinum.
D&P were always just “lesser” versions of platinum to me and I think this is really visible here.
Platinum fixed alot of problems in the original diamond and pearl, so naturally platinum would be a better game than diamond and pearl
They could still have a remake with the Platinum features just like Soul silver and Heart Gold they have the crystal features.
They needed two games to milk the series
Okay but pearl and (kinda) omega ruby are the only pink Pokémon Titles so I’m grateful
Gotta stick to that ''oh tradig makes it social'' tradition... even when you have seamless online trading to the point of it being meaningless
True
It never felt like I could ever meet new Pokémon so it’s hard to find a better team than what I started off with. Though I’m not having a simple time of using standard Pokémon against certain types. I actually have been switching out my Pokemon based on type. Though it definitely is hard considering how they don’t add any new Pokemon throughout the gameplay. Or any new or better Pokemon than what I’ve already obtained.
Thats not entirely BDSP's fault
Its the original DP games that had this awful selection of pokemon
And its this awful selection of pokemon that i believe DP are some of the weakest games in pokemon history
And BDSP chose to follow in those footsteps instead of the highly improved platinum version

We're now playing a monster collecting game with many party members options, yet the game never encourages you to do so. You can beat the game with one Pokemon easily, so why catch any of them?
You hit the nail right on the head!

The only reason Cynthia is harder is because she kept using about 4 full restores on each Pokemon. When I wittled her garchomp and milotic down she used about 3 or 4 on each of them

You don’t have to use the poketch for fly. Just open the map and click on where you want to fly. It’s the same with cut, rock climb, ect

@@thehumanshtpost6632 it’s only to point out how dumb the poketch really is, the fact that back then it had some use, like friendship watcher, or even the map, excluding the one that allows you to follow fleeing Pokémon, but bdsp none of the features are really needed, infact 98% of it is useless to the game, building a friendly team is forced upon you, egg watching isn’t even necessary at this point cause well hell you didn’t even need it in the first place, I’ve even noticed a problem with the egg watcher, half the time it doesn’t even update, after going into menus or changing the app 80 times , then only will it change, sometimes, let alone those apps, none of them are quite Rememberable to begin with, the originals made it to where it was just a cool gadget to have because of the dual screen, here it’s not even functional. Having to click with a slow cursor, skipping past the apps you don’t want, or even trying to watch Pokémon for eggs but only updates when you put it away, a smart watch that isn’t efficient or in general smart to have. I’d rather much have it removed than have it sit in my screen corner and just pretend it doesn’t exist

On the note of the Exp Share gen 1 actually had a predecessor in the Exp All, it was a key item in the bag and split exp through the whole party.
For example if you beat a Pokemon and get 600 exp the Exp All would give each party member 100
@Ik Funnily enough as a kid the amount of text boxes annoyed me to the point of tossing the item. Now as an adult I just don't bother getting it period
@@but_iWantedTo_speakGerman there is, it's an item you find late in the game. Once you obtain the exp share, it just sits in your bag and works as normal. To deactivate it, you have to put the exp share in the PC at a Pokemon center
Though, there is one important thing to note: It was a reward for getting 50 (or 100 I don't remember the exact number) different Pokemon in den Pokedex. So it wasn't like this was an easy option to achieve. It was a reward for actually going out of your way and catching as many Pokemon as you can (and in that case, you would want an EXP share, because you have so many different Pokemon).
that atleast shares exp, the exp share since gen 6 creates extra exp out of thin air.

I could fight fine, without any adverse effects, (I missed getting it on the poketch, so I went through the route blind), and all the battles were fine, no accuracy changes.
thats because bdsp uses diamond and pearl trainers, which are lower level than platinum
You'd have to force yourself through OG Diamond or Pearl to see if it's accurate or not. Personally I wouldn't want to do that to myself. Platinum I'm making an exception for (ribbons, I want ribbons), but not Diamond and Pearl.
Helpful bit of info: You can use Fly from the town map! This means you only need the Poketch for Defog!

The one and only good thing abotu BDSP is that it made me love and appriciate platinum even more than I already had
Randomized Platinum is god-tier. It justifies owning a modded Wii U because the DS emulation is just so good.
What about the competitive-level rematch teams for the elite 4 and Cynthia?
It's probably gonna cause the competitive scene of BDSP be even more impressive than the original Diamond and Pearl.
@@jamesmcmackin8773 better than pc emulation?
@@shozart1 More true to the experience with DS games for sure.
The inevitable conclusion of people complaining for years about grinding in JRPGs with zero understanding of the purpose grinding serves
A big point of criticism for me is the big timegating of the legendary pokemon. My second problem is that they brought the old TM system back.
What I find really funny is Ocean water looks amazing, but cave water looks lackluster.
I have absolutely no hype for Legends Arceus, it just looks like one more bland Pokémon game with a bigger map. I hope I'm wrong tho, since it isn't developed by Game Freak, but by Nintendo themselves.

Thank you for the kind words!

I understand we all have an opinion about these games, but it sounds like this guy has outgrown them.
One fix: you can fly going to the map, but yes poketch still garbage
Thank you for pointing this out!

@@THGMR-ox7sd Don't you think it's more natural for it to be a modifiable feature than a difficulty option though?
how do you activate bdsp cheats?
Back when I had to personally level up the critter I was more attached to it.
Turn: BDSP is easy.
Me: My whole ass team gets swept by Cynthia's Garchomp.
I got brutally defeated by Gardenia the first time I battled her
BDSP defiently had stronger trainers and better ui.
HEE-H0!!! ⛄
"Just play platinum!"
Yep.
So it adds pokemon from future generations? Or just slap the fairy type on pokemon that got it later

I really didn’t like two things
1. The bike on fast, super clunky
GameFreak didn’t make, or advertise BDSP.
I loved bdsp
Tldr of the video: Pokemon should be insanely hard, oh and insulting the art style.
Plus it isn't very "faithful" they didn't bring back Levitate for my boy Gengar 😤

No I enjoyed it too. Personally a fan of all Pokemon games. The core gameplay loop is fun to me.
And here I never thought this could be more polarizing than the Cowboy Bebop remake…. I was wrong 😑
I thought I was the only one who actually likes these remakes.
Fr any Pokémon game to me is fine as I play it no matter wat
Catching a shiny Shaymin before the event was the most challenging and lengthily part of this game. I didn't lose a single battle and I beat Cynthia due to an RNG focus band. I also beat it in around 20 hours
I'm guessing you did the glitch to get to Shaymin before it got patched?
Personal theory is BDSP was underfunded for Arceus and it was to late to redistribute funds when they realized how bad the chibi style was taken to
Chibi doesn’t look bad, y’all love to bitch
@xid You’re forgetting that ILCA developed the game and not Game Freak.
"In the older pokemon games you at least had to change pokemon and figure out which one is best for the battle."
Did you though?
EXP share at least fixes this issue."
I've encountered this with some fangames. Sadly, these are ones that everyone is basically praising right now.....😒
Basically, you have issues grinding if you try training more than 6 mons.
Mmmnnnah can't agree with you on that
LOVE the energy, cant wait to see more videos from you
Thank you so much!
I’m optimistic that Arceus will at least be an interesting game to see how they take Pokémon into an open world setting but my channel partner Tom is significantly less gracious hahaha. Hoping Game Freak can impress me again!

Only reason you'd need it is for defog and that's assuming you don't know the terrain. I certainly didn't as it was my first Sinnoh experience.
I like the EXP share because I hate grinding and also don’t have time to grind because of working full time. BDSP was definitely a bit boring though

Yes I totally agree because I think I’m about to defeat the 6th gym and my starter (infernape) is nearly level 60 and my lowest Pokémon is like 45
That’s not even mentioning how legitimately broken the game is glitch wise.

In x and y you can deactivate the exp share, and it actually makes the game kinda challenging, your pokemon are so underleveled
Imo XY was easy even with Exp Share off

This was my first time playing Sinnoh, and I really liked the game! Since this is my first time playing, it’s pretty much just a new game to me, and seeing the “new” pokémon and “new” region was fun. People like gen IV so much for a reason, and I see why now. I can definitely see why this would be a bad game for anyone who played (and even replayed) the original diamond, pearl, and platinum, but for me, it was a good time.
Needles to say yes they should make the EXP share optional-
I had an easier time beating the god of time than I did fighting the elite four.
Honestly I saw this as a good chance to make an amazing pokemon game because it would be a game not made by game freak.
