when I was a little kid who'd hang out trying to get autographs in the parking lot at Three Rivers Stadium, honestly the nicest player I ever met was Barry Bonds. It was the late 80's, so he wasn't a known commodity, it was pre-MVP's, pre-high $ contract, obviously pre-PED's, he was just a young, super talented player, and like Costas said, he was engaging, clearly smart, ultra friendly, always smiling, would sign an autograph for anyone.
hard questions. nice job! it's rare pleasure when awkward issues can be laid bare - clearly costas was a bit thrown off by the rose, bonds, clemens question. thanks for a good listen!
cricket has solved this problem by applying technology. they are about 20 years ahead in that regard. location, path of ball, whether ball hit bat, whether bally trajectory would have hit stumps. Its infallible, and has eliminated uncertainty about whether someone is out or not, but they give teams only 3 chances to use it.
Pete Rose should be in. So he bet on games. Unless he bet on his team to lose and did things to make that happen then what's the harm? He bet on them to win and did what he should have as a player/manager, try to win games.
there is no evidence that Rose did anything other than make bets on his own team to win....he didn't throw games and if he did anything during a game to help his team win then how could that be held against him? Joe Jackson isn't a fair comparison, although it's the only one out there, because he was accused of throwing the world series. Costas is right that betting is rampant in baseball now and it's hypocritical to keep punishing Rose. Bonds probably would have made the Hall even without the steroids that made him super-human, but it's pretty hard to just forget that happened and forgive him - same with Clemens, though I'm not sure the steroids helped him pitch or just helped him remain healthy enough to pitch.
Been listening to Dan since his "Curry and Pugh" days in Dayton at WTUE. But your statement "You can manipulate the lineup to win" in reference to Pete betting is the dumbest thing to come out of your mouth. The job of a Mgr. IS to manipulate the lineup to win! C'mon Danny, you're better than that. Tsk tsk.
This should show you, regardless how many years someone has been on tv, in a position with fancy dress, makeup, they can still be very dumb.....Bob just said "Micro Millimeter".....it's once or the other ....micro Millimeter isn't real.
Pete Rose was as competitive as Jordan and Tiger Woods and Tom Brady. If he ever bet against his team, that would be a problem. But he always bet for his team to win, so how would he jinx a game if he's trying to win every game anyway, as a player and as a manager? His nickname was Mr. Hustle, for crying out loud. He's not going to throw a game for money. He's too competitive for that. He should be in, no question.
I suspect Bob throws up in his mouth a little every time he has to read an online gambling promo during a broadcast. Pete should get the Moses treatment, inducted posthumously.
I think the playoffs are to long,it makes the regular season meaningless. If 162 games aren't enough to decide who's in the September Classic, which has become the November Classic, then cut the regular season 30 games.

Bonds should be in the Hall.
Intelligent questions and intelligent answers; answers that were direct to the question. And 5 people give it a thumbs down?!
Great question by Dan near the end on bonds Roger or Rose. Fun interview
great interview. Bob is spot on about Pete Rose

Go Dodgers!!!
Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame !!! Now Baseball ⚾️ is in the gambling business !!!!!

Altuve is going to Cooperstown. Bob Costas perfectly summed up the hypocrisy of MLB and their treatment of Pete Rose.
2:50 I want that left guy's Dodgers-themed "Traffic" shirt. Pretty accurate for L.A., especially at Dodgers games. Haha!
Forget Rose, Bonds or Clemens.....vote Dwight Evans, Right fielder for the Boston Red Sox into Cooperstown!
Pete Rose belongs in the Hall of Fame has repented. Mercy isn’t cheap and it isn’t free you pay for your misdeeds. Pete Rose has paid severely.

Better talk about the Braves on the next segment causeeeee 3-1 #GoBraves
Obsessed with Altuve Dan? Get over it,he’s fixing to piss haters off again!!!
He's obsessed with all of the 2017 Astros as if they personally hurt him with very bang of the trash can.

There are convicted murders that get parole
We have self driving cars but no we can’t do anything to trust tech with the strike zone

Exactly my thought when Dan uttered that nonsense

Pete Rose should go in only after waiting as long as shoeless Joe so 100 years and counting

can someone in the backrow or Pauli or Seton grow some balls and tell DP he needs to wear pants?

Dan Patrick is hypocritical!!!! Has no evidence that Rose 🌹 betted as a player ...
Bob makes no sense, Bonds and Clemens are couple of the best ever!! Bonds is hitting 70 hrs I repet 70hrs come on, they destroyed the record books
It’s absurd!!!
MLB promoting gambling it’s hypocrisy!!
