"Having your own dog really is the best kind of artistic reference." -Ninjon So true. I painted a miniature to match the pattern of my own dog. Very fun.
This is my favorite video of yours yet. Tons of techniques explained in a really understandable way. Thanks for the great video. I loved your golden demon entry, it gives off so much atmosphere, especially behind a dark background and is just super crisp and clean.
Really enjoying all the videos about your golden demon entry. It’s really fun to go on this journey with you, and the quality of your paint jobs is amazing, yet you are finding approachable lessons in each piece.
Wow! I could not have gotten this video at a better time! I'm painting a sabre-tooth tiger, and I'm not great at fur! Thank you for another awesome video!
The timing of this video couldn't have been better. I have been struggling to pain the fur parts of a Faun figure. I am going to try this approach tonight!
[Disclaimer: rant ahead] That insight that you mention about "wasted time" is spot on! I think about this for most "how to" videos and tutorials. Even those scale modeler videos about painting rusted/chipped vehicles, have you seen them? The painter goes through an enormous effort for the undercoat of rust, only for it to be covered in paint later and only show in select places. As someone with limited spare time for hobbying, I dread these "wasted efforts". I wish TH-cam hobby creators focused more on *effective* techniques rather than going through rituals just because that's how it used to be done. If an effect can be replicated 80% by just applying a couple of layers, why go through hours of layers and layers and costly techniques? Even for a Golden Demon entry, I bet 30% of what the painter did doesn't show up in the final result... it's just in his/her mind :)
Slap chop and similar of course were created as a reaction to these wasted efforts. But nobody will seriously argue that slap chop's shortcuts aren't noticeable. I wonder if there's an intermediate method though, one that achieves more of the quality of traditional processes without taking ages and wasting time in things that won't be noticeable anyway.
dont forget to include finish in your paint selection the black of the nose being wet would look even nicer with a gloss wash over it after your white dot not only will it sell the wetness, but it highlights the difference in material a great technique to learn how to use your finishes is painting a mini in only black and white , you need to find ways to distinguish the different materials
The retro beats are always great but the PG13 love scene music was niiice lol. Killer as always and that thumbnail is super clean and crispy. Can't wait to see this come together.
That pooch looks sic! As I’m struggling with fur this was super insightful. I only wish I could zoom in even tighter to watch that texture pop. Really appreciate this vid, super fun and insightful. Keep them sweet vids coming.
That came out beautifully. I just picked up the Reaper Mini's new War Dogs set, and they have two more mounted dog cav coming up soon, so this is the perfect setup for what I've got ahead of me. Thanks, and well done.
love the video, new camera is nice! but maaaaybe try and "zoom" in a bit or have the model slighly larger, means we can see even more of the great paint job
Even I know the dog is very much plastic, and I saw all that paint being put on, the end result makes me think that this dog's coat is made either out of velvet or suede and if someone were to drag a finger across the mini, it'd leave a mark. So good
That's a Good Boy there! Looks amazing. I will reference this when I paint my animal ally. Nice Broken Toad brush too! I just found a place where I can grab some before they are all gone!!!
Thanx for the great video, this might be dumb question, but could you possibly do a short video how you pin your models to your cork handle and what materials do you use .... once again thanx for the great contend...
Love the tiny details like the scratch on his leg…. But I think he is missing a bit of warmth to his belly, like maybe some pink shades… just a thought ;)
That's brilliant, love to see an easy and less award winning way of painting dogs. As I have a lot of Dogmen for Flintloque to paint, oh boy yes I have.........
I can totally relate to the statement that 30% of what you struggled through gets covered up in later painting steps. Frankly, hearing it from a pro makes me fell less like an amateur. You're still a way better painter than I am (that's why I love your videos), but it makes me feel less frustrated that you suffer from this too, it isn't just a n00b thing.
I feel like, for the average painter looking for speed, oils would be the way to go for shading, especially on an organic model like this. But admittedly, you aren't gonna learn a ton from that once you've got oil washes down in the way you would with a targeted glaze.
Okay, but that fur painting though. The mini looks like it would be genuinely fuzzy to the touch. Amazing work!
And not a single Temu product as faar as the eye can see

So true. I painted a miniature to match the pattern of my own dog. Very fun.
Jon coming in hard with the early 2000's movie references. I'm here for it.

I almost spit out my coffee when you did the "blue steel" face. I did not expect that. 😂
Really enjoying all the videos about your golden demon entry. It’s really fun to go on this journey with you, and the quality of your paint jobs is amazing, yet you are finding approachable lessons in each piece.
Ohhhh, such a sweet face. Thanks for including your doggo!
Going back through these videos after seeing that stellar Golden Demon work! Took a lot of notes from this one!
Tight script, great explanation, the work you put in to the speech really paid off
Your pups face is so droopy I thought it was digitally elongated. What a specimen
You've always been a very good painter but I feel like you've really leveled up significantly over the past 12 months or so. Inspiring work!
The fur looks so soft! Really impressed with how you've captured the delicate nature of the texture - top skills, keep up the fine work.
These are some extremely high quality doggos, both the model and the real thing 👌
Love your content and your style of painting. Thanks Jon for all the inspiration

The dog is absolutely bonkers amazing. The nmm I think is maybe missing something to really look metallic but I don't know what.

This is the year John!.. This is the year. Got a good feeling about this entry. Coming along very nicely.
Love the FFT shoutout Jon, it warms my heart that so many people (especially you) love that game 😍
I’ve probably learnt more from this video than I have any other painting video EVER. Amazing work. I can’t wait to paint my doggos!
This is one of my favorite models you painted. Love the idea of talking through your doubts until you get through the journey.
The texture of the fur is wonderfully subtle, well done. He looks like a very good boy.
Amazing paint job John.
I just want to tell you that you really are a very talented artist, don’t ever question that.
Today is my dogs birthday, I forced her to watch this video with me. She didn’t give a shit, I liked it.
Great work! I love painting miniature animals, I'm enjoying the realism of it, when I manage to achieve a good outcome of the fur and patterns.
Oh my god. This is easily the most impressed I've ever been with one of your paint jobs!! Absolutely insane work. 😊
Gorgeously painted 😊😊😊
Dang, a Neapolitan Mastiff? Makes me miss my English Mastiff. Handsome pup and mini.
What a beautiful pupper!!!
The mini was also painted very well.
dont forget to include finish in your paint selection

That's another great paintjob. Looking forward to seeing more of this GD entry in videos. The fur texture turned out great!
The retro beats are always great but the PG13 love scene music was niiice lol. Killer as always and that thumbnail is super clean and crispy. Can't wait to see this come together.
Nicely done, Looks like your minis are coming along nicely. For your Golden Demon entry. Keep up the great work!

Now I want to see all the Dungeons and Doggos line painted.
You've won best painting video on youtube. You had me at the dog, then you painted one. Simply perfect.
That doggo is *chefs kiss* and that fur is top notch
They need to make more types of dogs for warhammer games. An empire GSD or some labs would sell off the shelves.
love the doggo, both of them. 😁
That came out beautifully. I just picked up the Reaper Mini's new War Dogs set, and they have two more mounted dog cav coming up soon, so this is the perfect setup for what I've got ahead of me. Thanks, and well done.
Can't wait to see those Boyz!
Great work on the fur, love the format that you've used. Velvety effect that's as close to real fur that I've ever seen, keep up the great work!!
I think that’s the cleanest painted miniature doggo I’ve ever seen…wow 👏🏻🤙🏻
Wow nice job, looks really good
Any doggo is the GOODEST doggo, and thats a fantastic job on the fur 👍
Man youve really leveled up a ton with this Golden Demon project! Super awesome to see and i wish you best of luck with it!
Him’s a gooood boi! Can really tell you are a dog lover the way you painted this good boi!
Always an enjoyment listening and watching you :) another awesome video ;)
love the video, new camera is nice! but maaaaybe try and "zoom" in a bit or have the model slighly larger, means we can see even more of the great paint job
I am here for the future Ninjon clown fiesta of an Ork army. 💚💚💚
Dam that fur looks amazing
That Zoolander reference was pure gold 😂
Great paintjob! I'm loving how the project is coming together!
Amazing job Jon!
Me every time that doggo shows up
DOGGY!!!!!
how about for next year, you team up with your buddies and do a tale of 4 warpainters and you combine episodes on your journey to Golden Daemon?
That mini looks awesome, I look forward to you doing more fantasy models instead of Sci-Fi
Great video Jon! You can tell that the painting cam is different. I am sure you will get better quality out of it over time.
Amazing doggo, another banger of a vid, love seeing how your Golden Demon entry is coming along.
This dude is a good painter the orks will probably look top notch maybe he will have his camera figured out by then for better close ups
Even I know the dog is very much plastic, and I saw all that paint being put on, the end result makes me think that this dog's coat is made either out of velvet or suede and if someone were to drag a finger across the mini, it'd leave a mark. So good
This was a great video, much appreciated!
What a satisfying video to watch!
D'aww cute doggo sleeping!
*doggo snores*

🤣😂🤣
BLUE STEEL got me! 😂 also love this doggo, can’t wait to see more work on this piece 🔥
Your technique at 4:45 is flawless.
Such a quality doggo.
The face highlights are 👌🏼👌🏼
That's a Good Boy there! Looks amazing. I will reference this when I paint my animal ally. Nice Broken Toad brush too! I just found a place where I can grab some before they are all gone!!!
If you do orks do red skin or fel orks from the warcraft universe. That would be cool to see you paint.
Imagine if Ninjon got a low tapered fade
Very good boy! I’m gonna have to try this on my dog
Your paint job on that figure is beautiful!
I love your doggo.
Gorgeous!
You had me at Blue Steele, now paint a donut.
Dang, that looks really good. I can barely paint skin, fur, feathers 😂
I love how much Kimera Kolors plum is being used as of late.
I love derpy animal minis
This is the goodest model!
Very gooderest yeah :-D
Please paint more animals where possible. Love this lil’ fella 😊
Thanx for the great video, this might be dumb question, but could you possibly do a short video how you pin your models to your cork handle and what materials do you use .... once again thanx for the great contend...
He is spectacular. Really the best boy.
Amazing doggy and paintjob, by the way!
The goodest boy (the mini and the real one!)
Amazing job!
😍 What a good doggo!

I prefer the Starstrider pup, but thats because it looks like my pup.
Top notch art!
Looks awesome, my man. Fantastic job 👍🏻
I would like to give you a thumbs up, but I also want to give your dog a thumbs up. He's a very handsome chap!
Absolutely love watching you paint full ball$ack mate, really hope it pays off for you! This dog looks incredible!
Man, I wish I could do fur that good. I have some animal fur to paint and I’m dreading the fact I won’t get it as realistic as I want.
GOOD DOGGO SERVING THE EMPEROR AS BEST HE CAN
you got a color pallet for that? thats looks amazing for a bullmastiff
Blue steel joke was on point. 😂

Really good job.
