A quick note on the table for 4K Pro - those few green tiles are actually also supposed to be blue (so everything is blue) AKA everything can be captured in HDR or SDR. Our error wasn't caught until after Harris filmed but I wanted to share this in case anyone is interested in playing in sweet sweet 4K 240fps HDR or 1440p 240fps HDR
I ordered the 4k pro and was able to get it for $288 instead of $304 with discount code I game at 4k 240hz and would be fine if my captures are 1080p at least 100hz so 1080p 240hz is fine would be nice to have an update to get 1440p 240hz out of it later but I have a feeling elgato might give us a firmware update in the future for it monitor is 32:9 but can also run 16:9 resolutions 7680x2160 is the max res @ 240hz it supports
360Hz question: I have a 2 PC stream with a DP cable going from GPU to monitor and HDMI cable going from that same GPU to my 4k60Pro.mk2. I do this because I want lower system and input latency. Currently I cannot achieve 360Hz. Will I be able to with the newest 4k60Pro?
Quick note from our team - The resolution chart for 4K Pro which we sent to Harris had an error in it, and we apologize for that. 4K Pro can capture every input resolution and frame rate combination in HDR, including 1440p240 HDR as 720p240 HDR and 4K240 HDR as 1080p240 HDR (and lower frame rates). This was incorrectly labeled in the chart. Additionally there is a mistake on the 4K X chart under the 1440p144 Column - 4K X will not turn a 1440p144fps signal into 1440p240fps one - our bad.
How is this the first capture card to feature ALLM??? The Avermedia also supports VRR & on the PS5 it distinctly says that ALLM is automatically enabled when VRR is on??
@elgato will the 4kx work with no input lag or latency if i try to use a 4k/240 monitor through dp2.1 and monitor clone the main monitor on the capture card getting lets say 4k/144 or 120?
I had nothing but problems with my Elgato 4K Pro. Which was unfortunate as I have a ton of their other products. I have never had a problem with Avermedia's though. Also Elgato's warranty process was a nightmare. 🤷♀
So I've owned 4 different Elgato capture devices in my lifetime, both USB and PCI-E models at different points, and the audio has ALWAYS been imperfect with either degradation or minor to major popping on every computer I've used them in, both in OBS and in Elgato's own software. This was my deciding factor in selecting Avermedia in this generation.
I play on a 1440p 240 OLED monitor - Dual PC setup. My setup is paired between Rode caster Pro 2, the Mk.2 4k60 been great but I need that 240 pass through. Just bought it! thanks man!
why is the 1440 240hz category so empty when 4k 240hz has up to 1080 240 in sdr. i would atleast expect 1080 60 too be marked. is it simply because of the resolution miss match. it wont effect me in the slightest but i think lots of 2 pc people could run into issue considering 1440 240 monitors are becoming very popular.
That's the first column I looked for with the 4K Pro and with disappointment. And why nothing above 240Hz, with all the new 1440 OLED panels coming this year at 360Hz and 480Hz. Currently have the 4K60 MkII in my streaming PC and most likely picking up one of the 480Hz OLEDs on release.
Okay but NONE of these cards tell you anything but basic 16:9. What if I have a 21:9 monitor, or a 32:9? What if the device I'm capturing is outputting at 16:10? And if they don't support any of these, why? Its not like its 2010, 21:9 monitors exist.
100% agree with your points you made there, apparently this elgato hdmi 2.1 card is the only one that supports ALLM?? How is that possible when on the PS5 settings it literally says that when VRR is supported then ALLM is also supported. If the AverMedia card doesn't support ALLM then that is very shady of them to withhold that information..
holy crap the 4k X is the better option yes you don't get the over all HDR support but it has way more options for higher FPS 1440p and 1080p which most will be streaming/recording at.
Gonna be blunt here, why did you only show the boxes and spreadsheets, along with a rant at the end about avermedia? Would have really preferred some real world testing here.
This was 100% worth the wait Not only elgato make the cards near enough the same price as avermedia but has more stuff going for it not to mention how good the chart was for what is hdr or sdr avermedia you screwed up hiding this stuff from us edit: just found out that everything on the 4k pro is blue so that means yeah everything is in great hdr for the 4k pro
Do note a lot of people care about the color format they can capture at a certain resolution.RGB(444) being the ideal lossless. The highest resolutions x framerate are most likely 420 or 422 chroma subsampling only.
For sure on the 4K X since it is only 10Gbps connection. The 4K Pro is listed PCIe 2.0 x4 so that is ~16Gbps. So should have better color formats on the 4K Pro.
Should I upgrade from the very first elgato capture card that I have to this one ? , I play in 2k and stream 1080-720p Do I gain something? Or better yet, my viewers will see the difference?
I really wish that I knew these were coming out. I literally just bought the HD60 X a couple months ago after having the HD60 S for a couple of years. I def would have waited & got the 4K X. Pretty bummed about this.
Why didn't they just add the 4k 144hz capture on the pro. Hesitant to buy any now as i need specs from both cards. I'll wait until the next gen ones come out
I used to love Elgato products, I bought a lot of them. I stopped because both my stream deck and my 4K60pro stopped working after merely two years. Mounts and arms are still great, just not electronic stuff.
No 4:2:0 10bit 1440p60 capture with the PCIe 4K Pro capture card is incredibly stupid, so i can game/passtrourgh at 1440p240 10bit but only record at 4:2:0 8bit 720p???? hello??? that is ASS
And this is why I come here! Very unbiased opinions and aren’t afraid to call companies out for being shady or misleading! Appreciate your time and effort Harris 😊
Is the 4k Pro the newer version of the 4k60 Pro MK.2? I tried to look on elgatos website for a comparison but it didn’t show the older model and I had bought it in 2021 so I don’t think my model is 2.1 hdmi
I was wondering the same thing since they all look exactly the same. I believe the new version would be MK.3 but there is no marking on the card or packaging to differentiate between them
He went out on his own. His main gig is freelance youtube work with helping other youtubers, but not as a dedicated editor. Sounds like a nightmare personally, but I'm sure it pays better.
Oh and i forgot to mention there's sometime mixed quality after recording, like for 1-2 seconds has an artwork missing pixelated look then goes back to normal. But that happened to me only once in 1 hour recording. Don't know for others, but that happens. Seen on others having same issue like MKIceAndFire Spider-Man 2.
I know this is a rude question, but I'm having a hard time comparing, so I'm just commenting - would buying the GC575 be a much better choice in the end?
I find it a moot point that the 4K Pro can capture 1080 in HDR if you're gaming at 1080; I say this because I've yet to see any 1080p monitor that has real hdr support (600+nits at least). Seems like an attempt to just pad the product's "numbers/stats". At the very least you can find some 1440p gaming panels with HDR support (oled models or mini LED). If you're gaming at 1080 high refresh rate, it's in SDR more than likely on a 1080 panel. It really all makes sense if you're gaming at 1440p60 at least to be able to play in HDR and able to capture it in HDR as well and be able to view it after the fact. Having said all that, I prefer the 4K X because it can game in 4KHDR at high refresh rates, which most people will play with, on an appropriate high-end gaming monitor to enjoy, all while having the choice of capturing in a variety of resolutions in SDR/HDR, as the chart shows. Sorry in advance if it's a little difficult to follow along with, but I can't be the only one seeing this, right? Lol
Have they fixed the micro stutters yet? I had to return both my hd60s and their old pcie capture card because they both had stutter on multiple units that the avermedia cards didn't. I suspected it was a software issue since it impacted all four of their units but of course all elgato did was deny, deny, deny...
The very reason I always stick with Avermedia. I do like that Elgato puts all their info out and it's always clear. But the Avermedia cards just work better.
Hey @Senpai Gaming thanks for that video and info about new cards! I have one questions to you or somebody from the comunaty, to stream from my xbox series x i would like to upgrade my pc as i have a 10 years old one 😂. And on amazon i found a mini pc called "NiPoGi" with a ryzen 7 3750 cpu and a radeon vega 10 gpu, so i know that this pc is not a grate one to play games but what about streamin? How would this pc perform, as i dont want to sell any kidneys to afford a beefy pc. Thanks for any anwers and advice in advanced!
Those charts don't look correct at all. How can you game at 4k 240 and capture 1080p 240 but if you game at 1440p 240 (which is WAY more common) you can only capture at 720p 240? That cant be right considering you would be using WAY less bandwidth gaming in 1440p. Might want to reupload this with the correct info.
I find weird that the PCIe 4k Pro cant do what the USB 4k X can, like game at 4k144 and capture at the same 4k144, i do see different application for each, but personally i expected the PCIe card to do all and more than the USB. Maybe there is a 4k Ultra on development?
I'm upgrading from the enternal hd60 pro mk2 to the enternal 4kpro. I also own an external HD60X. Is the enternal capture card upgrade worth it. I don't like the external one cause I lose an HDMI port on my streaming rig and gaming rig. Yes 2 PC setup. T.i.a
so i game in 1440p 240hz but i stream on twitch 1080p 60 fps so the pro that goes into my streaming pc wont work so i need to 4kx right ?? i have the HD60 Pro right now but i did just upgraded to 1440p
Hello community, I need your help. I am planning to build a 2 pc streaming setup My main gaming monitor will be a 1440p 360hz. As cloning the main monitor with the best current capture card , i will be limited to 240hz 1440p on the gaming monitor too. Any solutions ?
Can anyone explain why we have to use passthru to get vrr in our recordings? That and no audio being passed without their sound capture software is why I bailed on my 4k60 and just stick with a single pc and the 40 series nvencs. Dont get me wrong, id prefer a dual pc setup, theres just too many compromises unless you use passthru. Also, love Elgato, so not being a jerk here. :)
Need your help senpai. I use the elgato hd60s+ and my buddy uses the elgato hd60 x and we have games whether retro or newer and we have audio desync. Any advice?
I keep getting my livestreams demonitized made into revenue sharing after playing your stream beats on streams. Keeps getting claimed by Ice Core. Any reason why this is happening?
Does 4k HDR basically mean it can capture 10-bit? Because I've been looking for a card that can capture slog3 straight out of my sony camera at 10 bit 422 for color grading from footage off OBS
i still don't understand where i should put this? in my streaming pc or in my gaming pc? you should do a video of the best dual pc setup for streaming. unless you've done that already? lol
after watching a short from pirate software about how much stream costs twitch for 1 stream im not going over 1440... streamers streaming in 4k and higher are causing so much expense for them no wonder they dont make any money.
I bet still no multichannel audio capture from ps5, they assuming everyone is stereo pleb. Some avermedia cards can do that tho they suck in video part :/
4K X, can it passthrough 5120x1440/120 and capture 5120x1440/60? I'm curious if super ultrawide falls into the 1440p on the chart... It can capture @ 3328x936/60 for all I care. I just need to know if 32:9 is supported.

so it is even better than what was shown, congratulations man hope to buy after my next paycheck

We saying that the PCIE card when doing 1440p @ 240 can only capture in 720 @ 240?!? Makes no sense

It’s worth it to ask him to make new video about that
How is this the first capture card to feature ALLM??? The Avermedia also supports VRR & on the PS5 it distinctly says that ALLM is automatically enabled when VRR is on??
That almost made me pass this thing, thanks for not shitting out a half-baked product like Avermedia!
@@gster109 just because VRR is enabled doesn’t mean it’s passing through the ALLM handshake…
@elgato will the 4kx work with no input lag or latency if i try to use a 4k/240 monitor through dp2.1 and monitor clone the main monitor on the capture card getting lets say 4k/144 or 120?
Sounds like it's time for an upgrade! I'm glad I waited for Elgato to put their stuff out!
I dont understand why the 4k Pro cant also do 4k144 to 4k144 in SDR, and the other SDR like the X does
It can. Look up the comments, there was an issue in the spreadsheet that elgato provided to them.
Kudos to you, Harris. It's not easy standing up to those who pay you. But you're doing the right thing.
Man I literally just bought the MK2 4K60 about a month and a half ago
Yes me too might have to switch it up 😢
The fact that you are pointing at charts with a tripod is peak entertainment 😂 loved that
How?
I had nothing but problems with my Elgato 4K Pro. Which was unfortunate as I have a ton of their other products. I have never had a problem with Avermedia's though. Also Elgato's warranty process was a nightmare. 🤷♀

Thanks for that info. You got me thinking about upgrading my capture card.😅
Excellent as always, thanks for the review.
Dude. You are one good salesman. And not in the bad kind of way. Pretty damn cool.
So I've owned 4 different Elgato capture devices in my lifetime, both USB and PCI-E models at different points, and the audio has ALWAYS been imperfect with either degradation or minor to major popping on every computer I've used them in, both in OBS and in Elgato's own software. You missed the biggest down side of the 4k pro. It only does resolution scaling at 4k. Hence you can game at 4k240 but it captures 1080 240
So confused that the USB is better than the PCI E variant. Really no point in bypassing 8k content
I play on a 1440p 240 OLED monitor - Dual PC setup. My setup is paired between Rode caster Pro 2, the Mk.2 4k60 been great but I need that 240 pass through. Just bought it! thanks man!
these charts are excellent, now if only I knew if there were any issues running on linux . . .
I appreciate that quote at 4:32 because you are truthful and not throwing shade at any other companies 👑
why is the 1440 240hz category so empty when 4k 240hz has up to 1080 240 in sdr. i would atleast expect 1080 60 too be marked. is it simply because of the resolution miss match. it wont effect me in the slightest but i think lots of 2 pc people could run into issue considering 1440 240 monitors are becoming very popular.

I'm in the same boat. I want a card that can do 3440x1440 at 120 pass through and 60 capture. I guess it's too niche.
"*This*, is how you LAUNCH [voice breaks] a capture card" - sorry brother, just too funny to let go. :P Love your videos!
100% agree with your points you made there, apparently this elgato hdmi 2.1 card is the only one that supports ALLM?? I'm planning to get the 4K X. I do primarily console 4K stuff and nice to see a 4K refresh.
4k 120 will last a long time imo good choice
I love this guy and channel a lot
holy crap the 4k X is the better option yes you don't get the over all HDR support but it has way more options for higher FPS 1440p and 1080p which most will be streaming/recording at.
Disappointing the 4k X can't do 4k60 in hdr, especially considering the price increase compare to the HD60X
This video was a hard watch, I didn't make it to the hdmi 2.1 very frustrating
Dang! This is actually a crazy drop. 4K144 pass and capture at that price is actually a good value. Not bad, Elgato.
Gonna be blunt here, why did you only show the boxes and spreadsheets, along with a rant at the end about avermedia? Would have really preferred some real world testing here.
I AGREE WITH THIS GUY
What happens if my 1440p SDR monitor is 165 fps and my 4k HDR monitor is 160 fps?
Am I not able to capture video using the optimal refresh rates?
This was 100% worth the wait
Not only elgato make the cards near enough the same price as avermedia but has more stuff going for it
not to mention how good the chart was for what is hdr or sdr
avermedia you screwed up hiding this stuff from us
edit: just found out that everything on the 4k pro is blue so that means yeah everything is in great hdr for the 4k pro
Do note a lot of people care about the color format they can capture at a certain resolution.RGB(444) being the ideal lossless. The highest resolutions x framerate are most likely 420 or 422 chroma subsampling only.

Is this 4k Pro a newer model than the MK. 2?
yes hdmi 2.1
what PCIe slot is required for ELGATO 4k pro capture card , does PCIe 1x slot work ? my screen is black i use ps5 i had disabled HDCP, PLEASE HELP

Sir if you are gonna do charts you need to invest in a extendable metal wand. Been around forever and is a must for high level pointing at things.
Is there a reliable card out there that supports 2 inputs? 2 gaming computers to 1 streaming pc? Or am I going to have to get 2 capture cards?
Does a capture card really help with recording over just using obs or streamlabs obs? Like what are the benefits
What options are there if you game at 1440p/360Hz or the soon to be released 1440p/480Hz?
Have they fixed the micro stutters yet? I had to return both my hd60s and their old pcie capture card because they both had stutter on multiple units that the avermedia cards didn't. How many people are actually using dual pc setups these days I've seen alot of big streamers moving back to single pcs
Yea with the latest GPU encoders, they do quite well with not too big a hit on performance.
Does the charts you have exists on things like HD60 s+ and the CamLink? I would love to see if I should upgrade or just wait

Thank you Harris.
so i game in 1440p 240hz but i stream on twitch 1080p 60 fps so the pro that goes into my streaming pc wont work so i need to 4kx right ?? i have the HD60 Pro right now but i did just upgraded to 1440p
Hi, what about the passthrough? Was it improved? @senpai . You'll probably have a video on all that, okay ill wait😂

Need your help senpai. I use the elgato hd60s+ and my buddy uses the elgato hd60 x and we have games whether retro or newer and we have audio desync. Any advice?
Well this will make you regret buying the Avermedia at full price not even a full month ago. $269 would've been nice compared to the $318 I paid.
This was a roasting of Avermedia......
But I'm waiting for the cam link pro to be what it was supposed to be
Where you at bruh
Of course I just bought the AverMedia external.
Does the new capture cards have a better encoder to take stress of my pc in any way or is the 4k pro all encoded by my pc
I'm so glad i waited for elgato!
I heard the GOXLR is back! is that true???? Can you make a video on it?
Do I understand the 4K X is an external card, but has better specs than the 4K Pro which is an internal card?
I keep getting my livestreams demonitized made into revenue sharing after playing your stream beats on streams. Keeps getting claimed by Ice Core. Any reason why this is happening?
Does 4k HDR basically mean it can capture 10-bit? Because I've been looking for a card that can capture slog3 straight out of my sony camera at 10 bit 422 for color grading from footage off OBS
That tripod lookin mighty sus
Well is it intended for console users as well or do we still have to suffer. I didn’t get a break down on them so I’m still left with questions
i still don't understand where i should put this? in my streaming pc or in my gaming pc? you should do a video of the best dual pc setup for streaming. unless you've done that already? lol
The capture card goes in your streaming PC, not your gaming PC.
after watching a short from pirate software about how much stream costs twitch for 1 stream im not going over 1440... streamers streaming in 4k and higher are causing so much expense for them no wonder they dont make any money.
Can you explain to me why im getting copyright strikes from using stream beats
WAIT WHAT ????, WHAT HAPPENED CAUSE I USE SOME OF HIS MUSIC ON MY READTHROUGHS
Do you do 1 on 1 help? By an hourly rate. I have this card and am having issues.
Can the 4K X be used for Camera Capture? I am looking to stream output from my Sony cameras and also stream games but I am new to all of this.
Thanks
I do exactly this with the 4K60 Pro so I would assume this new capture card can do it :)
The price difference between PCIe & USB standalone units, no matter the brand is bizarre.
Still not high enough for 360hz 1440 like the PG27AQN sadge
Thank you for this! Keep up the great work!
with the 4k x, you can record 4k60 with a mirrorless or DSLR camera, right?
You should be able to! I use Elgato's 4k60 Pro (the older card) for my mirrorless camera and it works great
I love that you are using a tripod as a pointer 😂
I bet still no multichannel audio capture from ps5, they assuming everyone is stereo pleb. Some avermedia cards can do that tho they suck in video part :/
so, 4k Pro can capture 4K60 HDR ?
4K X, can it passthrough 5120x1440/120 and capture 5120x1440/60? I'm curious if super ultrawide falls into the 1440p on the chart... It can capture @ 3328x936/60 for all I care. I just need to know if 32:9 is supported.
correction looking to capture 32:9 5120x1440/120 downscaled at 1664x936/60
