      Just bought one. Had a few questions. Was hoping to be able to run a small 13” laptop, but with a USB docking and two 22 in monitors simultaneously. Is that possible? And does this have any built in surge protection or would I need to run everything through a surge protector for sensitive electronics?

      I'm interested in these because of the ups function; I've seen demos and it works very well including on some exotic computer work stations. I would have to pay 300 bucks for a led acid 40 pound ups to get ten minutes of life support. So the 650 for the Pro with 720 wh is a good deal for me. And it's hard to find mid range/price power stations with 600 watt inverters. And I need at least 450 for my desktop. I wouldn't run it permanently, but I could get a clean shutdown and then use the River for a fridge or something.

    Check the draw on the induction cooker. If it's anything like the ones I've tested it works using pwm under certain wattage settings, typically around the 1000w mark. That is it still cycle on and off when on a lower setting but still hitting 1000w + when cycling on. I found this when testing my bluetti with an induction cooker on 1000w. It caught me out to start with.

  • @mattbuchanan9024

    The X-Boost is only for resistive heat loads (electric heater, coffee maker, hair dryer, anything with a heating element). It dials down the voltage so it can run resistive loads. It will let you boil water with an electric kettle but it just takes longer than normal.

    • @HansKeesom
      @HansKeesom 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly, use these functions what they are intended to be used for. Induction could easily run at lower setting. This is a 600 watt device with temporary 1200 watt, short time only. So use it within it specs.
      X-boost is NOT marketing hype, it is an option for people that know what they are doing and it is a great one.

    THANK YOU for being specific about the app, cloud, and the obvious nature of a design like that --surveillance, just like the smart-meters that were installed without our permission. It's totally unacceptable and a complete dealbreaker for me, even if it were rated #1 worldwide. I was very surprised (and, frankly, concerned) to find that of the 171 comments that were here when I wrote this, only two other people brought that issue up - less than 2%. Hey Tom, I really enjoy your "Solar Generator" videos. I'm still not sold on the Ecoflow, seems like a "Microsoft Product" where they rush something "new" to the market & expect the consumer to report their "issues". I think I will stick with my Jackery E1000 & E500, rock solid with very few issues.

    • @danielrice5474
      @danielrice5474 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I agree. The fake 1200 watt seems wonky to me. I do think Jackery should take some tips from these guys however. They should allow for faster charging and allow all their units to be hooked together (same models) and allow there batteries to be replaced. If Jackery did these 3 things and still keep the proven reliability, can't imagine another company touching them.

    There was another review video where a guy plugged his RV into an R600 and tried to use his AC. The under voltage burned up the air conditioner. Under voltage can damage things you plug into it! Beware.

    • @Trillville43
      @Trillville43 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That happened because of x-boost was on and it undercuts the voltage to run things that it wouldn't normally run. If he would've have it off then it would've shutdown like normal so definitely user error.

    Hello Professor Hobo! Not sure if you check your older posts, it seems this is the only way for a user to try and make contact. My wife and I love watching your channel!!
    My question isn't about the River Max, we invested in the Ecofllow River Plus (with extra battery & 2 panels), and my quest to find a cable with an XT60 female (to connect with main unit) and Anderson/HPP connection for connecting a Goal Zero Nomad 200 solar panel; found the Nomad 200 in a return clearance deal with REI, selling for $250!!! I've been researching 10 foot cables for a direct connection, from the XT60 port on our River Plus, to my Nomad 200's HPP/Anderson connection. I literally can not find a cable configured this way and am now questioning if there's a potential hazard or conflict I'm not aware of.
    Lastly, I don't have a lot of formal education with electronics, only the basics to understand polarity and applicable electrical ratings; in my personal previous electrical endeavors, electricians have advised against the implementation of an adaptor and/or in-line converters. The idea pointing out the potential points of failure associated with each adapter and/or conversion cables added into the equation. This is why I'd rather not use multiple cables to adapt the connection of the Nomad 200; opting to use a single run cable with the needed ends (XTT60 to HPP). If there aren't any obvious hazards, should I just make the cable myself? Or is my single run cable idea not relevant anymore; modern solar connections don't degrade flow of current anymore, etc?

    Thanks for the review, Hobotech! As a general rule, I'm pretty conservative when it comes to anything that hasn't been tested/retested/marketed for years...so this is a HUGE leap of faith for me. I went out on a limb and ordered the R600 Pro + 110w Solar Panel. I hope it doesn't come back to bite me on the butt. 😬
    Oh, well... Thank you for your informative review - you've given me fair warning and ample time to cancel my purchase. 😀😊👍🏻
    Also, thanks for the heads-up regarding the app. It'll definitely be a "no go," for me. 😎

    It’s like 6 of one or half a dozen of another trying to decide which brand on the market is best right now. I decided to not miss out on the kick starter and last night ordered the R600 Pro, 2 of them. The deciding factor of which brand to order was the 2 hour charge time/weight.
    I can carry this with me into McDonald’s Donald’s. Staying 2 hours is reasonable. Five to 8 isn’t. Who can do that daily? There’s miles to cover, ya know? But I can also solar charge this or charge by 12v. All faster than any other product.
    I probably can’t do an induction cooktop, which is something I wanted, but I can carry this.
    Thanks for the review. Much appreciated. And I love this color. Hope they don’t send black!

    It was awesome seeing it power 100+W from the USB-C port. I also have a pair and have enjoyed testing X-Boost & X-Link. Could you retest your induction cooktop with X-Boost turned off on a low setting? It should have no problems with a load under 600W but X-Boost is only for resistive loads.
    Also wanted to point out the Pro model isn't capable of 400W of solar unless it's connected to the 30lb EF1500 external battery. They each can take 200W. Thanks again for your thorough review.

    Great thorough review. Did you try testing the paired R600 (eg true 1200W) with the induction cooker or even just a single R600 with X-boost turned off and induction on low setting? I wonder if that solves the issue of the pulsing and the x-boost is the issue? I think if you simply disable X-boost or consider it not an option for most appliances it is still some great tech and features. Hopefully they continue to improve the system.

    31:00 Yes they could have done the battery-system another level of better. A base unit without a battery and then being able to add as many max modules as you like.
    Problem with that it would raise the price for a function not everyone is looking for.
    With the system they created now they have actually two module, the 288 wH model and the 566 wH model, for prices that still are like comparable products out there.

    The computer in the induction cooker doesn't like the lower voltage. Some digitally controlled air conditioners do the same thing.
    Privacy is something to think about in that the USB standard also transfers data with devices in most instances... Hmmm... to do some of the things it does would require a fairly intelligent micro-controller. Might want to be careful plugging in that Mac book or maybe your cellphone heheh

      Does your Beaudens read the wrong charge % after charging and use, and does your power supply get hot enough to cook an egg? These are serious flaws I found with the 384 about 4 months back and they told me they fixed them but I haven't gotten an updated model yet.

      @@HOBOTECH Sorry to say but I picked mine up nearly 4 months ago and yes, the charge % looks a little wonnky at times and it does run hot. The running hot didn't bother me much As I was new into this and thought maybe it was supposed to. But the charge % was upsetting. That's something you really want to know with some degree of accuracy. I really noticed it when I would shut down and the charge percent would be something like 60% but when i turned it on the following day, without having charged it, the power would read maybe 75%. Unfortunately, I don't remember seeing your review of this power station. I use it primarily to charge my phone and 3 tablets. I use my Bluetti for everything else.

    Hey Tom! Long time no comment. I've just been absorbing the videos and enjoying them on all the reviews on the power stations. On that note I'm getting ready to make a purchase of one I just haven't been able to afford one. And wondered what your thoughts were between getting the bluetti which is the 80s ac50s for getting the ecoflow the 600 not the newest one but the 600. I can get the Blu ready with your code for 379 or with the Amazon discount I can get the river 600 not the newest 600 just the regular 600 for $300. Which one do you think would be best? For the money? I have a 2000 Dodge Ram van with its own house batteries and solar setup but I wanted this as an emergency backup. The only thing that I run off of Power are some 12 volt fans as needed and my refrigerator. Eventually I would like to put a diesel heater in there as well and I know that's going to draw a little bit of power for the fan or whatever when it kicks on. I also thought about purchasing the Eveready lithium iron phosphate little power station as well. I want to the hobotech TV page and I also scroll through the videos and I did not see a review of that first unit. I did see your review of the newest unit that everybody was chomping at the bit for or you can link the two units and so forth.

    Overall, Im glad I cant afford this right now. I HOPE *crosses fingers* that their next version includes Lifepo in the base model. Im very picky but this joint is certainly the best PPS (portable power station) out there at the kick starter pirce. I'm not so sure about the retail price.
    If I could afford one, Id roll the dice on the Pro especially since they have that long warranty. Id almost get it just in hopes that it would work but I already have two PPS. Im glad to hear that the Pro has a 400 watt limit. Its shaping up to be my ideal PPS.
    I too am not a fan of requiring an account. I would probably create a throw away account on a wiped phone (I have a lot of phones) and make my changes and then wipe everything all over again. Hashtag overkill.

      The PRO actually has the same 200W solar input. The additional 200W is only for the optional add-on EF-1500 battery, which can be connected directly only to the PRO unit via a proprietary connector and has its own XT-60 connector with 200W input max.

  • @mitchellfletcher8291
    @mitchellfletcher8291 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder if these perform as bad as the River Pro for 12V operations. I bought a River Pro and was a bit disappointed in it's 12V output capabilities. It will not operate my 120W 12V popout slide. It drops the voltage to a point the motor breaker trips and motor stops. I have 2 other smaller power supplies that work the slide without fail. I tried everything and it just trips the motor breaker. Great for 110V but again, at high wattage draw, it drops voltage to accommodate without tripping the internal breaker which can be harmful, especially to sensitive equipment.
