Basically buying a dupe is no different from buying the original when they both do the same thing.
Zackly...
Good point!
Exactly my thoughts also...
Right ?! 🙄
Yes! Wasn't that the reason for NOT buying a fake...hmmm...but now its the same, no, worse. Good point.
NGL, i am SHOCKED those book totes cost $57 to produce, that is so much more than I expected. They look like $10 bags to me.
🤣
Same! I also thought they maybe took $10-15 to make. They definitely look like it.
Yes, I thought that the print and the bags were quite ugly, tbh.
I thought the same when they came out. I thought who would pay so much for that craft class bag. Then I thought are they made of silk and 14 k gold zippers? Nah..
Really could you make that bag yourself? If it’s hand made and they paid all employees would justify the price.
So basically no better than shein at this point.
This is just Fast Luxury same as Fast fashion🤨
So....if dior is buying the bags from the subcontractor, does that mean they really aren't dior bags until dior buys them? Does that mean they are super fakes until dior buys them? Does dior buy all of them? Is this how super fakes come about, because they are manufactured by these subcontractors? I've often wondered if these super fakes are made in the same place as the "real" bags. It's just another income they get from people who can't afford the "real" one.
Very very good question 🤔
I believe all of them to be "bags" until the designer brands them with their logo...
There's a guy in my town that produces jeans for Levi's and he does this and then sells the jeans much cheaper with the Levi's tag and all. It definitely happens
They have a contract with the company (Dior) who supplies them the materials for the item as well as the specs. These manufacturers only assemble them, they don’t design them.
Good point
Now y’all understand how those super fakes happened lol they said fk that go make extra.
Exactly. They’ve been doing this for YEARS. Years ago I learned that these super fakes are coming from the same place as the authentic and made by the same methods.
@@Julia36Dthey sure are!
@@Julia36DThey’re literally not ugh yawn
Katt Williams was right. 2024 is the year of exposure.
I can’t believe anyone thought those fabric bags cost more than $50 to make!
Made by artisans……my f….k…..ass…….my local leather ( reel artisans) makes beautiful bag for 150$ ….who’s to fool now for buying goods made by cheap labor and abuses for thousands of dollars…….😮😮😮😮
Machines are used in the process but people still say the bags are beautiful, and continue to buy them. The fact that they're made by people who happen to be Chineese should not exclude them from being artisans, in my opinion. The quality was good enough for Dior. 🤷🏿♀️
We are going to Florence and I plan to buy from a family that custom makes leather bags.
@@Its_chakecia. Of course, but, to work under those conditions is unethical.
@@Its_chakecia respectfully, I think you are missing the point
Dacob, I feel sick when I buy things now. I can’t even believe any company’s ethics. The quality of things go downhill when the employees are treated so harshly, so it shows in the final product 😢
Those book totes are surely at the pinnacle of these brands laughing all the way to the bank. To think that customers pay that much of a markup only to be walking billboards for the brand 😵
I’ll buy one in Chinatown tomorrow and I’ll write 53 dollar on it with a fat black marker. I’ll market them the rest of the summer
Exactly! Brands should be paying US
Yes! I always thought that about the Dior book totes. And to think that women are so willing to give away their money so easily….
Doesn’t really seem to be any different than buying a replica. The arguments against that are now moot.
EXCELLENT point!!! Totally agree.
My fiancé got me a Dior necklace in Las Vegas boutique. I knew they are no precious metal and just plain metal, however, he thought it was made of gold because, according to him, he asked an employee before purchase if it’s real gold, and they said it is… employees preying on clueles men who shop for gifts… lying and false advertisement to secure purchase… shameful
I think they can get away with that because it is gold layered...its sneaky as shit. Like a 'made in Italy' tag doesn't mean the bag was actually made in Italy...it was designed and maybe put back together in Italy-maybe...but...the label was made in Italy. They found loopholes to screw people. I one time thought Chanel jewelry was real because who the fuck would spend that much on costume jewelry...but no... its fake.
Some pieces are 18k gold plated, some are brushed with gold, some are colored in gold color. I'm not saying your husband asked the wrong question but sometimes reinforcing the question in such a way won't allow them to misinform you. Now that being said, is this right/ethical? Absolutely not! they should explain exactly what you are buying, and I don't know what their excuse is to be like this other than financial gains/meet quotas and targets. I've caught Hermes employees trying to sell me that "gold-plated" is the same as full gold.... no, it's not! When they know who they're f--king with, they won't play with you. I hope you're enjoying the necklace though :)
@@kurisuchan07 the one I got is “Gold-Finish Metal and Silver-Tone Crystals” therefore just a golden colour. I know what you mean with correct phrasing. You have to be very informed customer in order to know how to ask the right questions as they clearly practise so called aggressive marketing 😆Yeah, I still enjoy it, it was a nice gesture, but I’m with you on the ways they go about it. It’s funny how those brands are expected to be perceived by us, potential customers, as luxury, and yet their ways are so cheap 😆😆 The hypocrisy… me, being a woman, and we are all informed customers here on Dacobs channel .. I’d rather take that money to independent jewellery makers and get my moneys worth in precious metals and precious or semi precious stones… my designer stuff bubble has burst some time ago
@@esterdrass4964 they’re looking for ways to be cheap… and we’ll be looking for ways to get our moneys worth. Including taking our business elsewhere and not spending money on them 😎
@@kurisuchan07 that’s right, us, truth seekers, on Dacobs channel wouldn’t get scammed 😆 While they try their tricks, we’ll get our money’s worth elsewhere… I’d rather spend that money with local independent jewellery maker, for precious metals and precious or semi precious stone jewellery. if they take their potential customers for idiots, we’ll take our business elsewhere. The funny part is,l that, while using those cheap marketing tricks, they still expect to be perceived by us, potential customers as luxury 🤣 there’s nothing luxurious about being perceived as a loser-client. No, thank you! 😂
I read this book “Made in China”. All the fashion brands do this from the top to the bottom. Subcontract with Chinese companies that use Prison labor and Sweatshops. I am grateful the Italian courts are bringing this to light. More need to speak out.
So will Natalie Portman stand up for them, the same way she demanded Galiano be cancelled?
You would think that, but you know the answer😎
It depends on the contract she signed with Dior... 👀 Knowing Dior under LVMH, I highly doubt it
I'm sure they know. It's all greed.
This is shocking. More people needs to talk about this
LOL, my brother bought me a dupe Dior tote for $20.00 in Korea. It's nicely made for $20. I heard these designer bags can be made in China or wherever but as long as something is added at the end in Italy or in France. It can be labeled Made in Italy or France. What a joke.
“Who wants so much?!” There is a point that it switches from being about money, to being about the power that having that money can now bring. The family can buy pretty much anything their heart desires, to move up now is to gain power, usually political power. It’s insidious.
We work hard for our money.
And we pay top dollars for luxury items.
So what are these companies doing?
Pay less to the laborer and want the end users to pay 💰 hefty price!
Sweatshop is correct.
OMG! It’s worse than Tanner Leatherstein estimates. I am shook Dacob! I’m online getting ready to buy a Marc Jacobs tote for $300…to think I almost bought one of their over priced bags. I’m slowly but surely moving more into collecting vintage ready to wear. It is just too much greed for decent quality. I’d rather buy the decent quality up front than get suckered into paying 3-5K for their over priced bags which by the way do terrible on the resale market. Jeez!
Marc Jacobs totes are 100% worth it lol I swear
At least the quality of the Marc Jacobs bags seems to be good. Their working conditions are probably also crap though
@@BrighterThanYours agreed!!!!
Love Marc Jacobs bags. Got a few. They’re good quality and nice leather.
Why am I not surprised?! That’s how they get rich honey! Iam finding it hard to believe they get billionaires without any shady business. Thank you for sharing this Dacob! Have a great day ♥️♥️♥️
This has definitely made me think twice about purchasing much more in the future, especially with how cheap it is to make and the exploitation of laborers,it is just pure greed plain and simple. These companies need to stop with the price increases. If the price increases don’t stop and the quality doesn’t get better I will just stick to my perfume and cosmetic purchases.
Same here. Its all gone way out of control. The end of luxury… 💖💖💖
Perfume and cosmetic are all same either…alledgedly dior sauvage is only 5 euro to make and let not forget eyeliner either from cheap brand to luxury brand came from one factory…just like sunglasses as well…
I am still surprised at this, i know it is happening, but hearing the numbers, 😮
It always shocks me too each time I re-hear hard cold numbers 🥶🥶🥶
Bernard really ruined Dior. He acquired the brand for so cheap which is probably why he doesn’t really care what happens to it. I know the sheeple don’t care but if any of them have any morals then they should care. As Dacob has said, the justice system is not always moral and what Dior is doing is very immoral even though they won’t face any legal consequences. Personally, Dior has dropped from my radar. As a moral person I cannot associate myself which such brands unless if the owner changes.
Not only Dior. They spoil every brand they buy and milk as a cow.
Replicas cost like $300 and they still make money (the producer, and the seller makes commission). So $50 direct cost for a bag isn't surprising
They knew when they paid the invoices that costs were extremely low. A proactive person would have wanted to know why. This is not luxurious. This is not elegance. This is disgusting and sad.
That is why Turkey has become the new destination for luxury dupes at a cheaper price and quality. I swear that i don't care no more having the same thing cheaper.
Luxury ain't no more luxury nowadays
If it's going on with one, it's going on with all of the brands under the label. LVMH is corrupt. And this certainly explains why quality of these big brands has gone to crap. Disgusting.
This saddens me so much because Dior was the only one of the big brands that I enjoyed. It’s going to sully that house
I was in Selfridges here in London yesterday, and Dior was B U S Y! People don't care.
Just like they don't care how cheaply their iPhones and Mac Books are made. 🤷♂️
People are consuming an image, a dream, not craftsmanship and quality. 🤷♂️
Well not all knows this…thats why we better spread this news so many people will know…
Of course Dior knows. I agree, Dacob, Dior should be held accountable.
Seneca said "there is a noble manner of being poor, and those who don't know it will never be rich" - these billionaires behave like desperate people, they are addicted to money. I think money isn't the root of all evil, but addiction to money is - simple, humble workers like us are far richer... it's such a strange world indeed! :))
You ask “ how do these people sleep at nights “. Obviously very well as they continue to do this without any remorse. Appealing to their humanity will never work. The only thing that does is to hit them where they care the most, and that is their pockets. We should collectively stop buying luxury from any of these nefarious companies.
I LOVE your reporting, Dacob! Everyone around me at work thinks I’m unstable from how much you have me laughing through my airpods.
Multiple level violations as consumers who pay exuberant prices for Luxury goods deserve products made by artisans who should receive ethical compensationfor their works. These are not Luxury Goods, its like the brand buying and selling Bootlegs.
I think some luxury brands have been for some time using their customers as entertainment (we are the joke). As badly as they treat their workers is as badly as they treat us the customers. We are really no different from those workers being chained in the factories, we chain ourselves willingly by giving them our money.
Yeah, I'm just wondering why people haven't figured this out. They're no longer using premium material for anything . Probably cost maybe between $10.00 to $ 00.10 and why would care about their works Most companies don't.
I love Tanner Leatherstein’s channel. I’ve learned so much from him. I never purchased luxury bags (shoes on the preloved market is my weakness!). Thanks to what I’m learning (including from videos like this!) I’m only interested in small maker bespoke bags with certain supply chains.
The 'Made in Italy' rule...the label that is sewn in the bag doesn't actually mean the entire bag was made in Italy. As far as I understand, it has to be designed in Italy...made in China...assembled in Italy and the label itself is legit made in Italy. So basically, they are not lying when the label says 'made in Italy' because essentially the label is made in Italy. Pretty sneaky. I personally think the same factories the make the real, also make the fake. That could explain why they are made so well. Plus, someone already commented that buying a real and buying fake is the same when you realize the treatment of the workers is grossly equal.
Yep. Very similar to a fiasco with the "made in USA" labels in the 1990s/early 2000s where products were actually being made in Saipan/Mariana Islands. They find these technicalities and then fool people into thinking it's all legit.
I live in Italy and I'm italian: locals have stopped wearing all these brands a long time ago... we prefer local cute bags and little brands from artisans. I think these brands have more appeal for foreigners... i am not surprised... some time ago, there was a similar case for LIU JO in Naples: they were making tshirts for cents and then selling them for 50/60 €. They people were sleeping and working non stop and were paid cents per tshirts. It was HORRIBLE. BTW, your Italian accent is PERFECTION, I'm a new sub ❣️
If this were a US healthcare company, they would be liable for any vendor’s decisions. We are the company we keep.
That’s normal we all know that these luxury brand the cost of making is really LOW. But all we r paying for is The logo / the name / the brand.
😮...wow. Didn't think it was that drastic! Thanks for sharing!!
You are most welcome 🙏🏻
With all the news regarding luxury lately, I think I better off making my own bags 😅
LVMH is culpable. You asked all the right questions. You raised all the important points. What a world we live in….
I was always a big fan of Dior, the heritage, the designs were fabulous. But hearing this, I will never buy anything again from them. It’s absolutely disgusting. I think lvmh is just a greedy corporation, one of many unfortunately😢
Why is this not bigger this is a big ass scandal
Its quite big in Italy at the moment, but I agree with you, the rest of the world does not seem to care at all and also many big companies have so much money that they can indeed pay for silence in many cases… allegedly…
So , I can't wait to see what these companies do. And the governments actions!
Oh God, this is anything but luxury to me now. 😢
Thank you for speaking up about this. I don’t see many luxury YTs addressing these findings 🤔
Greed is one of the seven deadly sins. It sucks to be a billionaire. Maybe not now but later in life they will most likely find out as they beg for a bit of water from the poor man. It’s in the Bible honey. Outstanding video Dacob. I lost my appetite for anything from these fashion houses. I’m buying from small start up and coming designers.
Out of topic but your Italian pronounciation is perfect! 👏🏼It is a big news here in Italy, something that we maybe thought but no one had the proofs on it until now
Thank you fabrylucy 💖
As they say, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelette. And that’s the way LVMH operates.
Dacob, I was on this live but I fell asleep 😴 per usual lately, so I wanted to definitely catch up on the rest of this story, this saddens me more than anything on many levels. TFS 👛🛍️🦆🙏🚢
Thank you DeeDee 🙏🏻💖🌅
My mom is a seamstress. She would always tell me that the cost to make clothing products is higher than what the company sells it for. Even with jewelry. Jewelry is one of her favorite fashion items. So she always knew what to look for in terms of quality and what is a good price.
Dacob, let’s not exaggerate, the Dior bag was most likely around $5 to produce not $57….
Hahaha possibly buuuut 57 is what the manufacturer allegedly charged LVMH for it. They of course also need to make a profit when charging 57… so the production and labor and materials of course needed to cost less in order for the manufacturer to still be able to make a profit after selling it to LVMH for 57. Allegedly
This really erodes Dior brand. I went to the Met to look at the Sleeping Beauties exhibition, and Dior dresses on display were executed with such high level of artistry and precision, they easily stood out among other designer creations.
I also went to the boutique a week ago to look at the new collection. There was a gorgeous hand embroidered knit on display for $4,000. I admired it from afar, but I wondered what drove that price. Probably the embroidered butterflies. Well, if Dior pays the craftspeople who made the knit cents on the dollar I’ll go somewhere else. There are multiple designers on the market that make gorgeous knits for a fraction of the price.
If the product isn’t full leather, I automatically consider it overpriced. A fabric bag shouldn’t be 3k with a logo slapped on the front. So tacky. People want to be branded so bad like cattle.
Thank goodness I have no desire or envy to spend thousands on a freaking handbag. My $40 pre-owned, made in Italy, leather tote from eBay is just fine with me. I feel privileged to own it.
I appreciate how you pronounce every name and fashion term the way it’s pronounced in the original language.
Thank you Adrienne 🥰🙏🏻💖
At this point everyone is paying for the endorsements from the celebs and marketing. The marketing to make you’re believe it’s more than it is. At least Shein you know what you’re buying
That all makes sense and explains terrible quality of these brands. Just recently went to LV to check on new by the pool collection, I like their blue printed canvas, when I tried the bags I felt awful cheap quality and refused to buy.
I'm not surprised with the use of "minimise" - they are speaking in Legalese. Sigh.
$57? Allegedly there are many cases of people being incarcerated for questionable offenses, en$laved in free manufacture of retail goods. Allegedly multiple consumers find notes tucked in garments and bags that says they don't get paid to make goods that consumers have paid for.
I'm not surprised. I always thought the Dior fabric shopping bag looked cheap.
To cover up the scandal, they just announced their new “ambassador” Rihanna. So people can already forget about it 😢
Funny that they also published a survey over the book tote on their youtube channel 😂
Not buying anything luxury from now on.. id be contented with my coach, mk, fossil, dooney, and travel with them!
Thank you so much for sharing this!
Thank you for this video!
Germany introduced the act on Corporation due diligence responsibilities for the prevention of human rights violations in supply chains. Companies are held reliable for human rights violations concerning direct suppliers (and indirect suppliers if the companies have knowledge of a violation).
Europe is preparing the European version of the law which will be even stricter. Companies will be held responsible for their whole supply chain.
So when luxury brands move their facilities out of Europe to Great Britain ...Well...how convenient.
Love your channel. Your focus on the human rights aspects is so much needed these days. Making people aware of what is going is what forces companies to change, because they are afraid of their reputation. And they should be.
Hugs from Gernany.
Thank you so much for you words of encouragement and for your support dear. It is a lot of endless work, sweat and tears to keep up digging for the truth and many people do not seem ready to open their eyes so often to me it feels like hitting a wall when sharing with people because they do not seem like they want to know anything else outside their own little scopes. 💖💖💖

To be fair it has to be mentionend that in 2015 the UK Government introduced the MSA (Modern Slavery Act) while other EU members still debated about possible legislations.
So it's not as if the UK is a legal vacuum and has advantages over the EU in this respect. In my view, tax advantages are more obvious:
Anyone who sells a company that they run as a self-employed person (or as a partner in a partnership), or has at least a 5% stake in a corporation (in which they are an employee or managing director), only pays 10% capital gains tax on the proceeds of the sale.
To do so, he must have held a stake in the company for at least 1 year.
There are a number of interesting tax advantages and tax breaks in the UK that can be exploited in a targeted manner if they are cleverly structured. In individual cases, the UK can be extremely interesting - especially for foreigners with high incomes and assets.
5 years ago a friend worked in the past for a Factory which produced Canvas for LV. One square meter of Canvas cost 5€. So ….. it‘s not a suprise. He allways told me, dont buy this shit.
Are we really shocked by this! We all know it goes on, we close our eyes because we are so far removed from the problem.
This similar situation was documented in the mirror of high-end fashion by DW Documentary. it was available in youtube couple years ago but i cant find it anymore :( basically brand like gucci, maxmara was mentioned there too.
One Red Pill after the other showing that the carefully constructed fantasy bubble of luxury is bursting. It's good Dacob. Thank you for being one of those influencers willing to look at this darkness. Shining light is the best disinfectant.
If they would dig deeper I’m sure they would find similar if not worse practices in all of these luxury houses.
Oh no, I missed your livestream.

im glad this came out. i do wonder what will happen in the resale market or sales at Dior. I've wanted a lady Dior for so long but haven't found a color in the preloved market as we all know they don't resell well so score for the buyer. however they just dropped a gorgeous mint color, but for $6,500 USD, not reselling well, and this scandal, I will wait it out.
I’m here now Dacob lol

16:20 Who wants so much? Fair question. And I would like to add: Who NEEDS so much?
Ahh so that’s the legal loophole with the contracting. That’s disappointing from a brand with such a rich history. I’m glad there are other people who care about the issue and I really hope more laws are made to protect int’l labor soon.
I saw Sophie shohet post about this as well and I have to say, I’m surprised this is news to anyone. I thought it was common knowledge. I’ve know about this for almost 20 years. Perhaps it’s a general lack of understanding of what’s happened to the economies of Europe overall that misleads people into thinking someone is genuinely getting a fair pay and hand making these items and the corporation is simultaneously getting fatter and richer. Perhaps it’s wilful ignorance in an age of social media where many people care too much about what other people think of them. Hermes isn’t made in France either. It’s lunacy.
Sorry I must be a bit ignorant then. I didn’t know this. I’ve been buying luxury for many years and had no idea. I’m flummoxed.
She posted something about it a few days ago. Also, maybe sometime last year she began talking about what is made in China with a made in Italy label. These fraud companies, that is what they are to me. They found a legal loophole to get away with shit at the expense of the poor. I remember trying to resell a very old Gucci bag through the Real Real..mint condition but they said it was too old...wonder how they feel about those too old vintage bags now. That is what the buyer wants and trusts.
Yes, there was a huge scandal due to the misuse of the "Made in USA" labels when it was discovered that major companies like Nike, Ralph Lauren and a number of others were actually having their products made in Saipan/Mariana Islands by indentured Chinese immigrants back in the 1990s/early 2000s. Obviously no one gave a rats a$$ because these companies still do well. We've gotten very good at ignoring the signs or is it willful ignorance? And yet people scream about buying fake bags from China--what's the difference?!
@@ladysusanjane2682 I am genuinely surprised how many people don’t know this, you’re not alone in only finding this out now. Maybe I’ve just experienced life from a different angle and had access to this, but for TH-camrs who’s whole shtick is luxury, I’m really shocked that they’ve convinced themselves it must truly all be made in Europe and paid fairly
@@esterdrass4964 yes she did, although I think she was denying that items are made in China and then having the label stitched in in Europe (although maybe I’m thinking further back than a year). Luxury means you’re paying top dollar for a label. All this stuff is made in the same place for more or less the same costs. Sunglasses are by far the biggest rip off.
I feel terrible ,for the people who make them.

what is the luxury price of a human life? 53 euros per bag. I see.
What people do to climb the management ladder in medical, non-profit corporations, is shocking and disgusting from what I’ve personally seen. I can’t imagine how horrible the leaders of for-profit corporations are. And yes, most have varied levels of sociopathic disorders according to psychiatrists due to their lack of emotion when they see others suffer. They literally feel nothing, which is terrifying.
This is not new. There is a reason why Primark etc walk away unscathed when news comes out about factories where workers are chained to machines or doors locked. Using a third party absolves all responsibility of conditions and drives prices downwards. The annual invoice of 752k means that this factory produced almost 15 k bags produced by 32 people. That's 500 per year almost. Add to this all the other brands they work for and it makes the apple iPhone factory look like UNICEF! Look further at the third party hardware suppliers and you will see horrendous treatment of Senegalese workers.
i have an authentic coco handle and a super fake coco handle! i cant find the difference and my super fake doesnt smell like plastic. the caviar and stitching is identical
Materials are cheap but the branding is expensive.
Don’t forget the most important part: LABOR! Labor is what needs to be focussed on and workers need to be protected and paid fair wages.
im going to make my own flap bags from now on.

I suspect that most people will not care. They will turn a blind eye, just like in the case of the Chanel workers made to work in the cold. It will be business as usual. See no evil 🙈 hear no evil 🙉 speak no evil 🙊💜
