It's because that yellowbird is $800,000 and they made 30. With 9 billon cars on the road, you have better odds getting eaten by a shark than seeing one😂
@@easley421 It's possible to see almost any car in Switzerland ;) Luckily we are landlocked, so I'm far more likely to see a RUF driven by some rich guy than getting eaten by a shark :D
As a PROUD owner of a Ruf RT12, thank you for showcasing this wonderful manufacturer. So many people have no clue how special the vehicles are. I visited my car's birthplace a few years ago on a visit and it was the absolute highlight of the trip.
JakeTheLittleSnake you can tell that quick with cars that are that good. I drove cars from the back lot of the shop I worked at to the front and could tell. It was about 50 yards
They really were some of the best cars in the game. Polyphony Digital captured the dynamics of the rear engine cars, and the engine sounds very well for the time.
But they also see the pure passion Larry and Vin have. Larry's giddiness is over the top on this one. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. You're allowing so many people to see cars and manufacturers, they probably never knew existed.
Some Ruf trivia: -There is a dealership on the front of the building, and they sell a lot of non-Ruf cars -Ruf has used the same mechanical dyno for... a very long time -Ruf built the first 16,17,18, and 19" wheels -Ruf restores Porsche's of all types -Alois' favorite chassis was (may still be) the Boxter. It is the easiest Porsche to distribute weight to 50/50.
Estonia Ruf finally answered a question I’ve had for years but never had an answer for. I always wondered why the original 1980’s prototype Ruf CTR “Yellow Bird” had the NACA ducts in the rear fenders but none of the production cars had them. Turns out that she said that the ducts didn’t work correctly and that’s why they were left off the production cars.
I met Alois almost 16 years ago on a factory invite - it was my wife's birthday, which I never get to live down. The first R Turbo was parked outside the garage, and Alois took a friend for a ride. A GT3 followed. After a spirited drive, Alois put his hand up toward the rear view mirror and waved at the GT3. The R Turbo pulled away from 175mph to (very fast for B roads), and the GT3 lost its luster with me at that moment. Ruf does amazing things to cars.
7:57 No suspension components on mien Porsche is OEM. I also fitted chassis bracing. So stiff and it lifts a wheel coming off driveways just like this. I wanted a yellow Porsche ever since I read about the Ruf Yellow Bird reaching 211MPH in a Road & Track Fastest Cars Shootout Special in 1988. As of ten years ago, I achived my goal. Awesome. I love Ruf. Thank you for entertaining and sharing.
Oh man, this is awesome, I love how Ms. Ruf just seems so passionate and so proud of what they accomplished, these are truly amazing cars! Loving the content with Vin and Larry!
@@Chris-kh2vi it has still 911 character. in my opinion it is right to say that it is Porsche turned up to beyond 11. in the end, manufacture status just because of legal reasons. in other countries the company would be defined as a tuner. i don't care how they are called, porsche is great, ruf is great.
Christian Faust They are but heres the catch, Porsche sells them non pinned chassis's to build on and give them their own vin numbers. They use Porsche chassis still though.
10:18 That's a very special sound. That's the sound of a properly tuned-up Porsche, modified in ways that the actual Porsche factory never did. Thank you for filming that. 8:50 is another wonderful sound. The only thing that comes close, is the sound of Porsches rally racing.
Autofocus is the best Hoonigan content coming out right now. So cool to see amazing cars and the European countryside and Larry all in one episode. Fantastic stuff guys.
@ 7:57: That CTR2 is so stinking stiff, it lifts a front wheel when they pull out of that driveway. I can't remember what car it was but there was a 90's supercar that was tuned by a company and they showed off the chassis improvements by doing something similar they pulled it over shallow gutter of some kind and the car the pulled two wheels off the ground. Ruf is easily the most underrated tuner on the planet.
Its really nice seeing actual car guys put videos out. I hate listening to the driving impressions of people who clearly don't get what cars are about. Nice work, this was rad.
Firstly what an awesome channel. The Porsche 911 T been cleaned by the Sidney has the South African flag on its roof!.. Very Cool. The Yellow Bird was tested by Road and Track in 1987 as part of a mega test featuring some of the fasted cars in the world at the time.
That moment when you’ve been on the clock for three hours and your boss walks in, looks you dead in the eye, and asks “is that a CTR?”... yep, I could get used to this office
A lot of people don’t realize that the new CTR isn’t a 911 that’s been modified by Ruf like most of their other cars. It’s a completely new ground up design featuring a carbon fiber monocoque that’s made to look like a 911. It is truly a new car designed and built by Ruf.

This was how I was introduced to RUF. These cars were so sick in that game.
All of the above...
Most of us learned to "drift" in the Yellow Bird Im sure. It would slide turn one on HighSpeed Ring at top speed.
The people at Ruf must not watch the Hoonigans if they're letting you guys drive those cars

Ryan they created an aero of low pressure above them, meaning little to no air actually ended up being drawn in
