    I was really excited for this video and you delivered in spades.
    Some really interesting builds, the standouts for me are:
    1. Hedgehog - it's been really interesting watching your opinion on this type of build change over time. One fun thing I want to add is that once a hero with berserk gets about 50 resistance and block, you can pretty reliably buff them with catapults.
    2. Stoutpire - fascinating idea. Hadn't realized how much mana you can get from stouts. I'm definitely using this one going forward.
    3. Baneful dodger - incredibly fun looking build, with bonus points for making poisonous viable.
    4. Market Gardener - Interesting build, it's really a standout for the name. A reference to the Operation Market Garden from WWII. The build does a very good job of bringing the idea of a paratrooper to The Last Spell.
    Finally, I'm really glad you had a good laugh with the Gun Fu build. Part of the credit goes to SevenOfHearts, because the idea for the build came from a question they had in the discord and the following discussion. The original idea came from the question "How to make flexibility and specialist work at the same time?". That said, I agree with dropping Specialist in favor of Adrenaline Rush. It fits the Gun Fu theme better and makes the build a tiny bit more viable.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ZealotOfSteal heck yeah, thank you :)
      1) I need to try HH + Catapults... which would mean building catapults, something I'm loathe to do, but for you I'll give it a try. I think the major inflection point for HH builds was definitely the War Shield.
      2) Stout is a shocking amount of mana for sure :)
      3) Baneful Dodger, I was going for a riff on The Artful Dodger with Abigail providing the inspiration. I' not sure it's a great build, but I think it could be fun.
      4) Apparently it's also a reference to a weapon in TF2 for the soldier that made Rocket Jumps do something special. And I assume that that was referring to the WWII operation! So more lore :)
      Gun-fu was super fun to talk about, I totally get why specialist was in there now... you need to tell me when you've watched Equilibrium though... you have homework!

    Great to see you put all those builds on the site. Curious to see if more builds will get added over time. One thing I think might be fun if is there's a weapon-based search function added. (as in: if I want to play with a certain weapon, what kind of build would play most to its strengths or cover its weaknesses) I mean, we don't need that for the hand crossbow, but it'd be nifty for some of the less OP weapons.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ErpyAGDI I'd like more builds to be added over time, so as I discover them or others submit them perhaps we can do a part two, but in the meantime I'll definitely add them to the website!
      Weapon based search is interesting, I think the reason I haven't is that the "right" way to play is decide what your hero should be and then get the weapons that support it, not the other way around. So it's an interesting idea, but the use case might be a little niche.

    No one asked, but for my acronym (initialism?) abbreviation in the character name, I go with weapon name/type instead of build. So instead of MH|Carlos who will be using hand crossbow and wand, I would name them HxBW|Carlos who will be using maybe multihit, isolation and crits.

    • @aldenpotamus

      @MeanKno seems like a smart system... I find that conceptually my builds have implicit weapon selections behind them so I think functionally we end up in the same place, but I can totally see why you'd do it that way.

  • @carlmalheim7161

    The new format looks cool, but are new players going to recognize perks by just the icon?
    I suppose the build matching tool helps with that a bit. That’s also really cool as well. However, the percentages I’m not sold on. Is there a weight given to key perks vs bonus perks? You looked at a momentum build in the demo that had the holy trio, but showed 78% I think. If another build had all of the extras but was missing a key perk that drives it would that get a higher recommendation than the momentum build that has the full core?
    I like that you included lesser effective builds for some variety. I don’t appreciate you recommending the hand crossbow over the tome on the build that the whole point is seemingly to play with the damned tome! Lol. Blaze is awesome though, no doubt.
    I didn’t watch 100% of each build overview but I did notice a few spelling errors. I think target was traget in the momentum build and one of the poison builds had plague as plauge. Might be worth having your proof readers take another glance through.
    Great work on another excellent video! It might be worth making a series of slightly longer videos focused on a single strong build. Like 5-10 minutes, or however long it takes. This is a great resource and pretty comprehensive, but even with the time stamps it might not be as digestible for some people. Personally, I love the preamble and getting your thoughts on how and why everything is the way it is. Shorter, bite sized videos could allow more focus on each build and expand on them a bit.
    Lastly, a buddy of mine turned me on to Stolen Realm recently. It is a really fun rpg that reminds me of a low budget Baldur’s Gate 3. It is extremely fun and there are basically no good resources for it as far as guides go. I keep thinking it would be something you’d enjoy playing. It has a campaign and a rogue lite mode, and the campaign can be played in what they call endless mode, which adds modifiers kind of like Slay the Spire difficulty. You can play with 1-6 characters and the difficulty will scale depending on that as well.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The match percentage needs to be improved 100%... perfect is the enemy of good enough etc etc. Right now I think the critical perks are 3x more valuable than secondary ones, but after using the tool the real issues seems to be that critical perks really need to be actually manditory, and there aren't always 3 of those.
      Agreed losing the perk names is a piece of feedback i've gotten and I agree, I may add a tooltip to the website that shows them.
      I'm planning to make TH-cam shorts on all the builds so there will be a rapid 1min version of each. Also the guide builds now link to the TH-cam timestamp which may help.
      BG3-like you say? Hmm right now I might be a little gunshy toward things like BG3 I loved it, but the audience did not :) But who knows, perhaps I'll take a gander.
      As always thanks for the comment!

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey @vinhpui7893 ! So there's no hard and fast rules... if you're really curious about exactly when particular stats start falling off based on diminishing returns here's the video for you th-cam.com/video/3qEyhk0ce3o/w-d-xo.html -- the short version of this is that it's very hard to say exactly when one stat will get better than another. The spreadsheet linked in that video though will tell you exactly when, but it's a bit of work to track. Generally speaking though 1% of a relevant damage stat is normally worth the same, so if you have 20% physical and 80% damage then physical will be better assuming you're using physical weapons.
      Hope this helps!

    Making the screenshot tool is very impressive !
    It still need 200% UI to be reconized.
    If i may drop this idea : why not adding a mod that read your team composition and open the web page with this input ? You don't need an interface, just a keybind to trigger the script.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So I love the idea of doing this more reliably with a mod, the issue is 1) people would have to install a mod and that mod would be incompatible with other mods because of the way modding goes... but 2) and perhaps more importantly I haven't had great luck with actual code changes to the game, they're a little fiddly, so mostly my modding has been XML and sadly perks don't show up in the XML.
      At the moment I support 200%, 175% and 100% UI scale for 1440p, 1080p & 720p... I realize it doesn't cover all the bases, but it's good enough for the moment I think.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      So generally I'm I'm really try-harding I have a 2 pass approach. First pass is to grab everything I'm going to use. Then I'll spend my rerolls on the lowest sell-value sets of items trying to increase their average value.
      Hope this helps @ZeRedSpy

    • @ZeRedSpy
      @ZeRedSpy 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@aldenpotamus thanks for the reply!
      I do usually go through items twice, once for taking and once for selling (though I’m not comfy with corpse strats yet, I want more meta upgrades first so my items are much more RNG dependent).
      I was however specifically wondering about Hero Level Ups, not item rerolls. Do you take Common (grey) level ups in important stats on heroes? If I don’t see an uncommon (green) level up in a stat I like I’ve been rerolling for them but this often means I miss completely and get stuck with something useless like defense stats on a back line hero.
      I was curious what your methodology/straregy on hero level ups. Do I take the grey momentum boost on my momentum hero? Or do I reroll and risk getting stuck choosing between three generally bad options on the hero like reliability, health regen, or healing received.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Ohh gotcha, sorry for the confusion @ZeRedSpy ...
      So that's a more complex question as you can imagine. I think that it really has two factors, the first is that if I'm running Advanced Training (meta-unlocked) then I'm much more likely to reroll gray looking for better... but it really depends on the build. For instance on crit heavy builds like multi-hit I'll often take the gray crit because having more rerolls for secondary stats is more beneficial. It's very situational, though it's really important to check primary and secondary and decide where your rerolls are best spent.

    • @ZeRedSpy
      @ZeRedSpy 21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@aldenpotamus Thank you! That helps me a lot. I’ll develop my own weights for stats on various builds as I go: but this was a good example. There isn’t really a substitute for crit% on crit builds - so eating the grey level up makes sense given how important it to building up a critical mass of critical chance.
      That gives me a good way to think about rerolling!

    If I may make a suggestion, instead of "worst stats" how about "most changed stats"? Like relative to your stat ranking tier list, what stats are most surprisingly good or bad for a build? For instance if we just select the worst stats on levelup, it'll be Dodge, Reliability, Health Regen, Block, all the usual suspects. The best stats will be (theme of the build) then Damage, Crit, Crit power, etc. How about instead surprising stats?
    For instance for a Blood Mage I've found Healing Received to be shockingly good. Not like S tier, but compared to the usual Z tier garbage I view that stat, it's actually quite exciting to see. Similarly for a Dwarf with the damage to reliability perk, I've been shocked what a 10% resilience boost can actually do. I don't want it every levelup, but going from 70% to 80% is MASSIVE. I've quite happily taken two, and sat in the middle of everything with the AOE poison perk, spiky carapace, and just ignored damage completely. Even boomers going off on you is like... whatever.
    I'm sure you've found even more that I can't think of, things where you find yourself taking an unusual pick and finding it quite acceptable, or conversely finding an "old reliable" stat to just not mean that much.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TheoreticalString I actually misspoke (and clarified in text) it's not worst stats it's actually split primary and secondary, as called out in the template. So you get 3 primary stats and 3 secondary stats to shop for.
      Sorry for the confusion!

    • @TheoreticalString
      @TheoreticalString 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@aldenpotamus No worries! I watched the entire thing though, and I noticed pretty much every character had damage because pretty much every character likes damage. Unless you're pure poison or some weird buffer, moar damage = moar good.
      Maybe what it is is I need to mod in some complexity. I can already think of adding critical weight to the damage formula, and adding some new weapon abilities to balance things...

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey @TheoreticalStringI made the call early on to generally not include AP as a primary stat for exactly the reason you're describing. For damage I felt like there were a handful of builds that didn't need it (though they are few and far between), and I like the stat list to be like a shopping list so excluding damage felt a little off. But I hear you, it's a good point.
      I'm not sure what you mean by "Critical Weight" maybe you're referring to Critical Power? The damage formula in the game isn't particularly complex, though it took me a while to fully appreciate it. The way that diminishing returns operate on stats is far from unique, but still makes it non-trivial to choose stats. Damage is not always king after all!
      Thanks for the comment!

    • @TheoreticalString
      @TheoreticalString 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@aldenpotamus I mean give weapons different crit numbers, rather then them all critting for the same multiplier. It's a common trope in RPG stats, some weapons do 3x or 5x crit type of thing. For The Last Spell, I think 1.25x,1.5x, and 1.75x/2x would give an interesting spread. Then you set the base critical damage multiplier to 1, and crits do [Base Damage]*[Crit Weight]*[Crit Damage Multiplier] (Right now it's just [Base Damage]*[Crit Damage Multiplier]). Adjust the amount of crit damage multiplier you get slightly, and 1.5 weapons remain about the same, 1.25 weapons become kinda pointless to build crit on, and 2x weapon become crit gods. Then do things like swap Hand Crossbow to 1.25x and Two Handed Sword to 2x to make them crit weapons.
      That makes Crit more than "generic damage good" talent, instead it pushes you towards wanting certain weapons and not wanting others the same way Momentum and Opportunist do right now. Also could give a role to some weapons that don't really have one. In particular the Hammer really suffers from being a weapon that's not really good at anything, but there's a few others that do so too - Shortbow could become a crit weapon, for instance. And it nerfs Handcrossbow/Multishot/Crit very naturally without just cratering the Hand Crossbow's damage.

      Got it, so it would be the analogue of current weapons having 1.4x opportunism damage but for crit causing your crit power to scale differently on different weapons or skills. I realize you were describing per weapon multiplier, but since the game already has something like this per skill (for opportunism and isolation) I suspect it would be easier to implement in the same way they did those two.
      Interesting idea!
