  • @nezix
    @nezix ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video! I understand that numbers may have changed in 7 months, but it is much more efficient to fully upgrade a gold mine by day 2 then it is to build 3 goldmines with no upgrades. Each day with 2 workers it's pumping out 120 gold which makes you a profit so much faster and lets you really snowball into other things that help by having them earlier. At 40g per worker they are much more efficient in terms of gold than salvaging, piles, etc

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey @nezix, it's a great point you're making about the max output of gold mines, but I do think that you need to really normalize those calculations around value per worker, because the 120g has an opportunity cost of 2 works that could be generating gold from corpse piles or being used to salvage ruins. Generally speaking if I'm going for a non-corpse pile strat workers are best spent in the early night on ruins so that you get the non-renewable burst of resources without the upfront cost. Building your second gold mine early can be a good plan rather than upgrading simply because you get passive income from it, gold mines pay for themselves even when not upgraded after just a few nights and then they're complete profit.
      To your final point, I think the issue is really just the upfront cost. That 40g / worker number doesn't have the cost to get it up and running baked in... unfortunately it takes a while to get to the point where you're running pure profit after spending on upgrading a gold mine. Generally speaking I find that increasing # of workers (even if you're getting less than 40g per) is unusually more of an accelerant on your economy than getting to that max production but with a upfront investment that could be used on second weapons or more houses. Also once you get to the point where you're getting 4-5 mountains in a night the items you sell actually give more than 40g per, if you sell 3 items (~60g per) at the cost of 2 workers that comes out to 90g per worker which is conservative as you can technically get items worth 80-100g, which would put you at 135g per worker in the late game with 3 epic lvl 5 items.
      Either way, one of the things that I love about this game is that there are so many ways to play, and while I generally choose to play slightly differently that doesn't invalidate the way you choose to play or disprove your very true claim that fully upgraded gold mines with a surplus of workers is a very good place to be. Thanks for the comment and welcome to the channel!

    13:56 could you explain a bit about these strategies for getting better corpse piles?

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hiya Bruhder, plan is to make a whole video on corpse piles in the future, but the TL;DW is this.
      The possibility of a corpse spawning is based on how many and what type of enemies died on a particular tile. This is coupled with how close he enemy was to your base / magic circle and a wave / map specific spawn modifier. All this combined determines how many corpses of what type you get.
      Right now it's not easy to force corpse spawns, but letting enemies get close to your walls can be a really effective strategy for getting more. Risk vs reward type of thing.
      Hope this helps, thanks for the comment!

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a good strategy to push off extra heroes as much as your can... I think this goes double for the Wanderer Omen that has a tendency to really stunt your late game. Good advices to be sure.

  • @xeen_gaming
    @xeen_gaming ปีที่แล้ว +2

    great and detailed for beginners!
    btw, when you said that barricades are useless, I remembered a good strategy (which I use): put a barricade in front of every wall. In this case, the melee enemies spend 1 extra turn to get to the wall, to destroy the barricade. Think about it, it might prevent a bit of panic😜

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very interesting concept, I see two issues though that's I'd be curious about.
      Biggest one is mobility, you basically need leapfrog to enter / exit your base and it's going to impede movement pretty significantly I think.
      Second that's a lot to spend in terms of mats... if barricades were free it might be a different story... but at 8(?) materials each that's adds up quick 🤔
      Interesting idea though for sure

    • @xeen_gaming
      @xeen_gaming ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you take the omen of leaps and put ballista through 1 - it's not so difficult to jump in and jump out. Plus, I always leave a couple of doors for the passage)
      As for the materials, they may not be enough. Therefore, the strategy is not for the first few nights. But later, instead of upgrading to stone walls, I put barricades in front of the wooden ones. And if you build a quarry early (and I try not to spend the first money on items from the shop, but build the economy), then there will be a lot of materials.
      And I mostly talk about Elderlicht, because I often play only on it.
      In general, of course, this is not a victory strategy, but an option for using barricades :)

    • @raginhomosapien
      @raginhomosapien ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@xeen_gaming sounds good to me you can keep building them out even I imagine . you just need to keep a path for your dudes. this is pretty good idea once you get your walls reinforced and your ballistas up.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One thing I've never tested, but if you put a barricade next to the mist does that block enemies entering through that tile 🤔 I think some enemies spawn in the mist and would likely break them, but I'm wondering if you can manipulate wave generation with them.

    • @xeen_gaming
      @xeen_gaming ปีที่แล้ว +2

  • @Grossmond
    @Grossmond ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like how you put out the comparative of the ruins of levels vs corpse piles. Imo corpse piles duri g the first 1-2 production phases are king, bc your heros can handle most of the burden by themselves and that gold helps majorly boost economy over the whole run.

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So 4 ruins still out perform piles... but it's way closer than I realized. I generally agree, the flexibility of being able to get max value for 1 worker is unparalleled. Thanks for the comment Grossmond!

  • @Femaiden
    @Femaiden 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    the thing i hate about lakeburg is that upper part, because there's water there and then 2 narrow walkways and enemies like to try to sneak around that side, but it's hard for your heroes to reach them, and ghen some nights, flyiners will just fly across the water there and then sometimes stop over the water. i made a mistake of building a building next to the edge and a flyer flew over the water and attacked my building and my melee hero was the only one nearby and couldn't reach it. .
    and then later, on like night 7 or 8 i forget, an elite ripper appeared and it had mist around it and enemies were in the mist it was creating and nobody could target to enemies because it said "not in line of soght" not even with third eye we still couldn't target them and they tried to get in the town on that side walkway, but them , maybe that was good, because it did slow them down. i just maybe should not have built buildings up there.

    Just a tiny point about the corpse piles being "tied" with 4-tile ruins: the rewards aren't the same, so I wouldn't call them tied. If you want both gold *and* materials, the wells might still be a favorable choice- especially after you've already accrued all the tainted essence that you need. No?

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's absolutely true that materials are more abundant in ruins, though very few of my strategies hinge on getting a larger influx of materials early... generally speaking I focus pretty heavily on gold as that's usually the limits factor in most of the early milestones like getting your inn etc.
      That being said you're 100% correct, the numbers are different if you're looking for materials as your primary goal. Good clarification, thanks for chiming in!

    • @aldenpotamus

      There was one minor tweak to the production upgrades (removing one), but I'd say other than that almost nothing in this guide changed.
      1.0 was a massive balance patch to weapons with some changes to perks but the production phase was mostly untouched.

    If you put focus on armor and trinket production, does that improve the value of the perk which gives you two trinket slots? I know you didn't value that perk very highly in your tier list, so I was wondering - is the prospect of two epic tier V trinkets worth a perk slot?

    • @aldenpotamus
      @aldenpotamus  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that perk (Runic Gift) is one that I've come around to in a big way. An extra trinket slot has big value, and the mana that comes with it is generally great for the final night being able to cast aggressively. In my current thinking Runic Gift is an easy A rank with S rank potential.
