  • There are some great shots of the Lorain Scoop Shovel, operated by George, and a Case MC-1050 with 4-in-1 bucket working next to each other at the Historical Construction Equipment Association International Convention and Old Equipment Exposition in Bowling Green, Ohio 2022. It's really awesome to video these workers of yesterday and I have some great closeup shots of the shovel working near the end of the video.

    Re: Lorain Scoop Shovel
I remember seeing this in CB Colby's "Earthmovers" when I was little . Interesting to actually see it in action!

There is one of these sitting on my great uncles farm… Completely overgrown by trees, but we’ve always wondered what it was! Thanks for posting this video

Interesting machine! I wish the bucket crowd operating mechanism was shown more clearly. It appears the crowd is cable operated, but I don't know how the bucket dipper (crowd) arms are withdrawn when the arms are horizontal. Gravity would allow the arms to withdraw when the arms are at an angle, but not when the arms are horizontal, & a cable can only pull, not push.
The bucket dumping function is clearly hydraulically operated, & I wonder if the engine on the rear (counterweight) of the machine is only for operating a hydraulic pump?

I'll post a future video that should show it more clearly.

Nice job on the video. I hope that George is planning to bring this machine to other shows as it would be iteresting to watch in person. Thanks for posting

Was this machine a prototype because it doesn't appear to have a very refined look to it.

No sir... this is a factory shovel. At one time I found an advertisement for this model. I'll see if I can find it again and provide a link, or maybe someone else can.
