I like how you go through your soils, ferts and everything with such detail and don't just recommend things without waiting for solid results. Seeing the Burle Marx Flames is always a highlight, too! Can't wait til my 2 flame babies grow up to look like yours.
Your Virgo DEFINITELY came out when you were analyzing your soil and making sure everything was covered LOL! Love your content! I can’t wait to have plants as big as you! You inspired me to get a coriácea silver and a monstera áurea! I hope the Vancouver Plant Show goes well also! Please post content about it just like you did with the other plant show you recently went to!
charcoal can absorb nutrients but there are caveats. 1) it only absorbs it from the water that it is in contact with 2) unless it is bioactivated, the carrying capacity is very low. I add charcoal to all of my mixes because it acts as a stabilizing agent for the medium (keeps pH balance as the medium ages). Biochar has the same properties as charcoal (stabilizing agent, will absorb nutrients) but also acts as a soil conditioner (increases water holding capability). In the end, it is entirely dependent on what you are comfortable with and what works best for you.
My heart just dropped when you said something about charcoal pulling out nutrients.. I put activated charcoal in all my mix. Aaaaaah!!! Anyway, I'm looking forward for the updates with the biochar. PS: You can wear a mask next time when you make your mix I felt bad when you were coughing. I hope you are okay!
Ashley from Gardening in Canada youtube channel has a very informative video about it. As a soil scientist she explains exactly that charcoal can deplete plants from nutrients according to some academic research articles.
I think that the big pieces of perlite float to the top of the mix when I water. The tops of the pots seem to have more perlite on the top after I’ve watered several times. 😊
Hi Kevin, love you video, as usual! As far as the activated charcoal goes. Some years ago I read into it and spoke to some company who produced it. The reason why they activate it it because regular plant charcoal will pull the salts out of whatever medium it is put inn. That is why it's activated, which means it is put into some liquid, sorry I don't know which one, which will not leach anymore. I once bought a regular horticultural charcoal, on the ainstustions it said charge before use. Sorry for long explanation. I right away tried a mix as well, from you last video. I tried, Tree fern, large perlite (can't find any in Switzerland or Europe) Orchi-Pon, Black-Pon, large pumice, fluval. I like a sightly courser mix. My Question now is, do I have to change the fertilizer since it is an organic mix??? Big hello from Seitzerlan 💚💚
Enjoyed your relaxed repot and your singing. 😊

I can’t wait to see how these plants grow! So exciting!
You’re right any thing crossed with lux is stunning 🤩

Just got tree fern, still trying to figure out what to mix it with. Great video and so helpful.
I have been mixing it with super chonk perlite, worm casings, lecca , and coco chunks with some random leftovers .
@@wootlesswocks missing the worm castings, just finished my last batch but I got the rest of the amendments but thanks for the info! Will try!
Good vid Kevin; thanks for sharing!
The papi x lux hybrid is very pretty. 😍
Future Kevin did not zoom in on 39:37 lol made me laugh

Haha yeah I still don’t really know how much it pulls out and obviously I might be missing something. Haha thanks I’ll wear a mask next time 😅
Knowing they give activated charcoal to patients in the emergency room for ingesting poison makes this make sense to me.

I started wearing a mask😷when dealing with perlite.
No matter how careful & gentle you handle perlite, it always goes airborne😐🙄
Kevin! Not you searching for the dust particles and coughing like that 😂😂 why is this me to a T 😅
Would you mind sharing the perlite source? ❤ Love the videos 🎉
Always a good day when you and wild fern post ❤😊😊

Never heard if black pearl before. I’ve also never seen stratum added to anyone else’s potting treefern mix. Usually it’s tree fern/soil mix.
I find the stratum holds water like soil would which helps when I don't remember to water enough lol
Do you need that much wick in the pot? It seems like most of the wick is in the pot. It really adding to the wicking of the water.
I'm so excited toooooo!!!😊
I split my giant bags outside and dampen it when I use it. Left over hasn't created mold yet
@ 5:26 The sneeze took me out 😂
Sending prayers your way.
Time to use mycho!
Are you taking these all out of pon?
Are you taking everything out of pon?
Ooooooo that clemmy be hanging front and center
yasssss
It’s a thing. A tarp would be a great idea for you.
Are you getting rid of the pon? You’re mixing moss and pon in the big bin.
I missed something(I'm not on instagram, etc), so are you going back to soil instead of lecca or pon?
Why do you transplant anthurium arial roots but people don’t replant monstera when there’s arial roots. I don’t understand the difference.
Girl!! Focus!!! Either with zll thr extra chit chat.
Choose your point( you do have lots of good info) but you’re all over the place .
Put a mask on
Wear a mask lol
