Hey Nikki. I was wondering what is your experience shopping with Top Vintage? I really want the coats from there but shopping for coats online is frustrating, especially if they don't offer free returns.

I grew up in the 50s and your closet, looks like my mother’s and mine when I was young. I’m inspired now. I do wear a lot of dresses but not every day in the winter. I wear them every day in the summer because like you I live in the desert, I live in Rancho Mirage, which is next-door to Palm Springs. I have some great sweater dresses. I got on Amazon that I love and are comfortable.😊

I'm inspired! I love your feminine fashion. It is truly beautiful. I live in Ohio, and it gets very cold. I find it hard to be warm and cozy in dresses during the winter, but I am hoping to do better this year. However, during the Spring and Summer, I successfully wore dresses everyday, and loved it. I also bought my first few Gal Meets Glam dresses because of your videos. Thanks for inspiring me Nikki.

Ayesha, I live in N Indiana and we wear boots with skirts or dresses in the winter. Depending on the weather, my 5 girls and I wear tall boots or short boots with tights or leggings and a warmer skirt or dress. I haven’t worn pants for 32 years and always find a way to stay warm. Wearing a hat, silk scarf, leather gloves and the right boots is the key for me.

What a beautiful selection.
I was going back and forth about my winter 10 item wardrobe, as I love wearing dresses but find it hard to stay warm in cold German winter with lots of snow - we live near the alps and it gets really cold November through March. Your video has inspired me to keep seeking out winter dress options instead of just giving up and going back to wearing jeans. Thank you for your kind and calming videos, I love your content.

I'm so glad this could inspire you! If I were where it was extremely cold, I would focus on leggings, fleece lined tights and tall boots which can all be layered under a dress. I believe these options are much warmer than jeans as well so you won't suffer at all. A longer coat covers much as well and then of course scarves, gloves, hats - EVERYTHING that covers! I'm sure you will be the warmest, loveliest looking lady in town!

While there are not many boots that do justice to your style, I found 2 pairs that could create a seamless, elegant look with your dresses.
For light colored dresses:
Richy Heeled Boots in Chic Cream Leather
For dark dresses:
Charles David Atypical Over the Knee Boot in Navy
I have a similar pair to the chic cream leather that works well for the midwest. Altar'd State brought out knee boots this year in soft dove, tan, cream colors of suede... you might check them out. I bought their pink heeled cowboy boots for my cottage core dress style.
For a feminine boot, look at Victoria Trading Company and April Cornell. You may find a pair there. I adapted a dresses only wardrobe from you. I'm loving it. Going into year 2. Trying 10 item wardrobe, not there yet but better than it was😊💕🍂🍁

Hello from Illinois! Nikki, that deep blue dress 👗 is really pretty on you. You mentioned sweater dresses. Illinois can be so cold 🥶 but when I have my favorite sweater dress on and tights I’m so cozy. I know Nevada can get cold too. With a sweater dress sometimes I use a warm shawl. Gloves 🧤 to match.

Your collection is breathtaking! I have to thank you for how you (along with Jennifer L Scott) have helped shape my style preferences. I remember seeing a coat video you had done a while back and thinking, “we can have more then 1-2 coats!?” It blew me away how lovely and feminine your coats are! I grew up in the Pacific Northwest where it is COLD and wet as can be, and we all wore long puffer coats, L.L.Bean and Eddie Bauer, and very Seattle hipster style. Growing up, I only had one winter snow coat.
Currently I live in a dry, desert climate now where it is enormously cold. I still only had one unattractive coat for years!
Your influence had led me to thrift some secondhand wool trench coats for winter. I now have 4 nice coats (burgundy, peacock blue, rich red, and a lighter, neutral trench coat reminiscent of Humphrey Bogart from Casablanca or The Maltese Falcon.) I have been getting compliments *everywhere* I go! I picked colors that would go with my color palette, and paired with the fact that I wear mostly dresses or skirts, it looks amazingly sophisticated. And I only spent $200 total on the 4 coats!
Your closet is so beautiful. I easily have 10 dresses alone, not including skirts or blouses, so I’m not close to a 10-item wardrobe, but I’m consider going an experimental one in my closet!
I also have begun leaning towards a feminine vintage style the last few years, and I just love the inspiration that you provide! I have been wearing mostly skirts the past few years (they are more forgiving to wear than pants, and far more flattering in my opinion, and I had refused to continue wearing yoga leggings) since skirts are more flexible with postpartum weight and I was sick of going up and down and up in pant sizes.
I just discovered The Main Street Exchange, a modest clothing company, and their dresses and skirts are incredible! I love their pencil skirts! Also, Lands End with their fit-and-flare A-line dresses are wonderful. I thrifted one and it is now my favorite dress.
It is so true what you say, to pay attention to fabrics and quality. Previous I couldn’t figure out why I could never get warm, and the discovered that my shirts and socks were polyester (plastic) and I was freezing cold, all the time! When I switched to cotton and wool socks, and cotton or rayon shirts, it made a huge difference for me.

Good morning, love this idea, as for boots I have a pair that goes past my knees, they are warm, but very feminine, know one knows how high they are. Just a kitty heel I thought I would never wear something like that, but I always get compliments on these boots. Found them in Las Vegas. I know that Las Vegas is very cold at times lived the snow days there, and the winds can be down right chilly.
Those sound perfect! I have been looking for a kitten heel when it comes to boots. A little lift goes a long way but many of the boots I see are block heels, really high heels or flats. I'm looking for elegance.

I find in my climate, I am wearing dresses with cardigans and flats but I would like to have more seasonally appropriate options for when the weather allows. I love the navy and burgundy coat on you but I love the 10 items you picked plus the extras. Wearing dresses is incredible so easy to get on and off. I love dresses but where I’m living at the moment we have a foot of snow already so my coats are long and tapered at the waist just made out of down lol.

Kudos to you for incorporating vintage looks with the 10-item wardrobe! The color palette is stunning, too!!! While I'm a vintage enthusiast, an a-line skirt just doesn't flatter my figure AT ALL, but you look perfect in it!!! While it's a bit late to think of dresses for me for this winter (and I live in the Rocky Mountains where it is VERY cold in the winter), I'm going to put my thinking cap on for spring! (Besides, I just bought a bunch of pre-loved sweaters in the "coastal grandmother" color palette to keep me warm this winter. Good timing, too, because all the ski resorts are opening to a record early-open! It's going to be very cold this winter!!!)

Not cheap but check out the redwings heritage collection for boots. They are pricy but they are the kind of boots you have for 20+ years. It took my husband around 8 years to destroy a pair to the point of needing repairing and he was doing heavy work in them.

Your coats are all so lovely! I have only had one navy anorak for the past several years and I hate it! I'm not sure what to do this year as I have an electric wheelchair to use, which means I get very cold. I'm not sure what to do.
Finding that thing you're known for helps a lot. Something I like to do is get multiples of a nicer v or scoop neck tshirt (sometimes with gathers or texture, anything but a boxy crew neck) in a few of my colors for layering with midwest weather swings year round. Also slinkier button downs with 3/4 cuff sleeves that can be dressed up or down. It's a bit of a minimalist uniform but it works for me. I'd love to incorporate more dresses but it's challenging finding petite sizes that fit in all the right places.

Can you address the nylons or no nylons at some point and perhaps even leg shaving /moisturizing tips when going with the no nylons option. I seem to remember a few years ago you wore them most all the time but I don’t think you do anymore. Is that correct?
This is something I no longer discuss because of the wrong audience it attracted. For best moisturizing, do so right after a shower or a bath. It locks in the moisture.

What looks good with the orange coat is the blue dress you are wearing. Ten item wardrobe how Jennifer does it is cool, but only dresses gives you a lot less outfits so I feel like you would need to change it out more often.
It sure does give a lot less “outfits” which is where my “extras” come into play. For my extras I use dresses I cycle through then sell on Poshmark to keep things fresh and try new things. Sometimes they stick, sometimes they just aren’t quite right.
Not my personal style. But, those dresses (and that red jacket) are beautiful. ❤

Did you buy the green herringbone or the grey? I watched the video twice and couldn't tell....I've looked at that coat too and am debating on it still. I think the green might work with lighter shades. I get tired of grey in winter when grey and black is all you see outside and on people in the midwest.

I doubt he would even notice, haha! He appreciates the fact that I make an effort each day and that I'm consistent.

In my “A Dress A Day in May” series, I share the many reasons I dress the way I do. I share different things at different times. Modesty is an important part of dressing but I don’t believe dresses are the only way to be modest. In fact, dresses can be immodest depending on what they look like and the intent of the heart. The Leading Lady Wardrobe is all about wardrobe simplicity while having that pulled together, ladylike appearance. Of course this includes modesty as to be ladylike means just that. It’s all in the name🌹
