I grew up in Glendora. As a child and early teen, there were still orange groves and the blossoms smelled so good in the spring. They were cut down to build homes off of Sierra Madre Ave. I’m a Workman and as a kid I loved seeing that street sign. When my dad moved out there people would ask him “Why do you want to move way out there?” In the 70s we lived in a house off of Foothill Blvd and Lorraine, later moving to the Charter Oak area off of Sunflower and the 210fwy. The strawberry fields are gone, too. My mom would take me to either Eastland or West Covina, depending on if we were going to the May Co or the Broadway. We always had a bite to eat at Clifton’s. She said I would get a grilled cheese and a Coke, and I almost always spilled my Coke. We would also visit the K-Mart and they had a cafeteria in the back, and Christmas shopping was done at Gemco
I grew up visiting my family up in Covina although I grew up in valley center and escondido. Whenever I listen to lynyryd skynyrd it reminds me of driving down good old interstate 15 up to covina. Those were the days
Where my cousin's lived in Covina It is truly a beautiful place to live.. I remember in the late 70s my family and grandparents & cousin's would plan our 4th of July at Covina Park where they had a carnival because fireworks weren't allowed in Covina..
Stig, Were you there ? I was, remember it well, I was 16 and there were so many cute girls dancing to the music with flowers in their hair. Did you go to school in Covina ?
@@bigdogbob845 Hello Bob, glad you enjoyed our Love In! That Saturday! Don , Bil and I organized and found sponsors in L.A. for this. Much work with the police and the juvenile officer and parks dept. Silk-screening STAFF shirts, etc. Maybe you remember the big to-do about the Hippies living in the Hippie House on College street, just down from the park, diag. across from the Hosp. (where Don and Bill worked) That was us! No I was 18 and from Mass - hitched west to see the Big Sur with my Martin guitar and back pack. Then - Crashed in an apt on Haight st up in Fricco that summer of love - weeks later met Don and Bill in Covina. We rented the house, I painted the porch like a circus wagon, put up black lights and posters in the front room ....and kids started coming by to see the 'Hippies", as mentioned in the newspaper. My pic was on the front page. We let the kids in, for music and just hanging...no drugs or drinking. Must leave by 9pm - because the police were watching us closely for any reason to bust us. Would you happen to have a way to find the newspaper articles about the Hippie House, Love In, ? anyhting would b great to have to show my grandkids. Peace out!
@@bigdogbob845 Also, Bob have you seen the youtube video of that Covina Love In - it's pretty rough - but maybe you can find yourself in it! Another Covina youngster filmed it.

Covina SGV kid too. Eastland, May Co, Broadway were major shopping destinations for family too.
Covina resident from 1955-1982. Walked and drove virtually all of the locations mentioned. Memories...........

Covina is now a freaking ghetto just like its neighboring cities- Azusa, Baldwin Park, West Covina, Irwindale, and Glendora.
@@mateobaysa2055 San Bernardino is the worst place of all...
@@jetknight7562 yup, which is somewhat adjacent (through 210) to the cities I mentioned…
I lived diagonally from a Knight family, the next street over. Two girls a bit older than I.
Lived there in the 60's. Good information.
Wonderful history.
