Reminds me of my high school that had a weird door. It was about a third the size of a regular door and locked, and when I asked about it, security said something like "That's a janitor closet, don't open it and don't try to go in".

This is honestly one of the worst and best parts about scp, the desire to know more, by nature scp is not meant to be understood, as the various anomalies often can't be understood completely, but the stories end just too soon to have a satisfying conclusion that it leads you to seek more, the whole concept is made to be played with, giving you a set up and telling you to screw around and make your own stuff up, honestly, scp is a treasure, and i only want to keep knowing more about it's horrifying world

This was the first SCP I ever read, and I started on the SCP Foundation about a year ago. I'm 37 freaking years old and The Stairwell (087) genuinely left me feeling uneasy.

This is one of my favorites of all! Why do I love it? Not only is it a very interesting concept to begin with, it has some of the most detailed testing descriptions I've ever seen, which makes me feel like I really know it, even though it's still a big mystery.
I feel like it's important to note that the face appears when the test subjects mention their intent to leave the stairwell. It seems that SCP 087-1 only appears when the subject is unwilling to continue.
So does that mean it wants them to leave or it appears because it think they won’t go down any lower and the lower they are the easier it is to catch them

The foundation states that all D-classes will eventually be terminated due testing or will be killed by foundation personel if they don't comply. The promotion was a false hope, once you're D class you're gone. You'll die sooner or later, no exception.

The face follows the D-Class from behind as they descend, it has a short range memetic ability to project sounds & generate anxiety at the same time. It lures the D-Class as far down as it can, knowing that they will eventually either collapse from fear, or exhaustion.
The only motive I can think of is sustenance, it probably feeds off of fear, that is why it doesn't attack until it has to, so it has more time to eat...

You forgot to mention that there was also a 4th expedition into the staircase. It is entirely redacted so I wasn't expecting to see it, but it is worth mentioning. What detail could be so bad that it was entirely redacted? Maybe they got a better look at the face. :)
It was a whole body, similar to the Shy Guy, but more reasonably proportioned. Oh and it clawed every D-Class to death.

I always feel like this one has something to do with the existential dread of dark staircases, like reasonably you know there's nothing behind you but What If There Is? This is like sprinting up the stairs to turn the light on only to find out the light doesn't work and there actually are demons here.

I always like the SCP’s that don’t actually commit bodily harm. For all we know, dash 1 is just trying to make friends, he never assaulted or hurt any of the subjects, he just scared the shit out of them.
This is one of my favourites. It was one of the first that I ever saw when I got into SCPs, and it frightened me so much

It's not just you. This was the 1st scp I saw, and had never heard of scp foundation, and it scared the poop out of me.
I honestly feel sorry for the 3rd one. It was like -2 knew how to trap her after the last 2 escaped from it. Almost like it adapted, and proceeded to counter the escape attempt through an inevitable flight downward for the unlucky target.

scp 087 wasn't contained in 2021. and I'm very sure that most or all of the scps and their lore happened earlier, like the late 90s and early 2000s.
Also nothing can replace that good old human touch as humans will indefinitely have a different effect from the anomaly
@@ProfessorCat-lf1tm No hate, but I'd like to know an SCP with its lore set around this year, doesn't have to be 2021 exactly, and uses robot test subjects. Sometimes the SCP only reacts to humans as well, so there is still a purpose. I am also aware that some SCPs are tested on living organisms similar to humans, or others sometimes, and also on dead bodies.

SCP world has no tanks or remote-controlled vehicles, no drones, no claymore mines or M61 vulcan canons.
My theory on SCPs is that theyre all the manifestation of some form of legend or popular belief. This SCP might represent how people fear treading staircases in the dark, or how we run away upstairs after turning off the light. Theres nothing to actually fear in the darkness except the mental torment we create for ourselves, which is why it has no face. Its also why light isnt allowed to pass very far. Light would reveal theres truly nothing to fear.
Honestly this would freak me out if I had to go down those stairs.
