    Every time I see a cow after a trim, I realize all over again how expressive they are with their faces. The way they often glance at Nate, as if it is registering for them that Nate is the one who took their hurt away. I think it is the eyes that are most expressive, really.

    • @swiftfated

      In ancient greece, women (Hera especially) were called "cow-eyed" to describe how beautiful they were.

      @@swiftfated That is awesome! I never knew. And it is amazing to me how people thousands of miles away and thousands of years in the past had the same opinions and ideas (about the eyes being so expressive), it goes to show that some human behaviors are truly universal.

      To me, a cow's expression never changes, Totally Clueless, even when they are standing on a Railway Track, looking at the Train bearing down on them.

      @daniell1483 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@pjimmbojimmbo1990 I used to think that way, before I got more experience seeing how cows express themselves through body language. Give it time and you will start to see those signals too.

      they really are just big ol puppies. the only time i met a cow up close was as a kid and she accidentally knocked me over when she tried to investigate me. she looked concerned and confused like “why is this calf so light???” it was very funny and sweet

    • @bwenluck9812
      @bwenluck9812 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      It's *not* overkill!!! It's serving a purpose. It helps cushion that hoof so the cow can comfortably stand and walk on it and it keeps debris from the sole in an effort to keep that lesion from getting infected...

    • @kokuhakuqiun4215
      @kokuhakuqiun4215 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@bwenluck9812 also keeps the infection from getting worse if the cow already does happen to have an infection in their hoof. Because debris could make it worse with all the gross stuff from the ground and whatnot.

      tried watching a few other hoof trimmers once, and they’re all SO heavy-handed with their knives. like one of the guys i watched cut in huge chunks, made the entire length of the corium bleed, and made the cow flinch and kick with each swipe. at the end, he wiped it dry with a paper towel and added the loosest bandage wrap that i’ve ever seen. it was so crazy and sad. it really made me appreciate this guy a lot more with how steady and patient he is with the cows.

    I don't see people trimming dew claws too much. Once every several videos maybe. The big exception being when Hoof GP had a cow with a super long one. It was several inches long and was dragging on the ground and would likely have been bothersome for the cow. But with a quick trim, it was fine again. From what I have read, they actually do serve a function. They help the cow get better traction as they walk. I assume that helps on more slippery surfaces.
