My first winter on a canal boat

- Living on a narrowboat comes with its own set of challenges, but winter on the canal is a whole other thing. We spent the coldest months of last year on a winter mooring in the village of Braunston, and despite the cold and damp, we absolutely loved it. Another cosy vlog featuring: getting frozen in, Christmas, baby lambs and lots of gorgeous countryside scenery. I hope you enjoy it!
(Very sorry for some of the shaky footage. We've since fixed our stabilisation issues, but as you can see the vlogs are on a bit of a delay. More stable days are coming!)

My dad had cattle, but a friend of mine lived about 40 minutes away, and her neighbours had 🐑 sheep.
Every year the mum’s and their lambs would be in a field, part of which was the boundary fence between the 2 properties.
Next to and alongside the fence were trees for summer shade, wind protection etc.
Several years ago (around 4 years) the neighbour thinned out the tree line (we ALL had fire wood that year).
Anyway - one older larger tree was simply left where it fell. We could see the fence line and the big log from my friends big back windows.
We noticed that the lambs were jumping on and off the log. They were having an absolute ball.
One would then run along the length of the log, and then a few other lambs would copy them until they were all taking turns to “play” on the “big log” as we called it 🙂.
The amazing thing was the following lambing season, the now older lambs would come over to the Big Log and it was like they were showing the new season’s lambs what to do and how much fun it was🙂
It was amazing.
During the year as the lambs grew up, occasionally they would be hanging around in the shade, near the Big Log.
Sometimes a few would jump onto it etc. BUT as soon as the new baby lambs arrived and they were old enough, I swear it was as if the older ones brought them there to show them how much fun the log was.
Those lambs would play for ages and ages. They ran around chasing each other jumping and leaping as lambs do.
Sometimes they were little terrors. Like a gang of fluffy tearaways.
I’m living in the city these days, but my friend calls me to let me know when the neighbour’s new lambs are discovering the joy that is the Big Log.
This comment is already long enough, but I just want to share one more thing -
Did you know that cattle, specifically females/cows and heifers will form a crèche.
The younger females or heifers will stay with the new calves whilst the mothers stretch their legs and graze on their own.

So refreshing not to see the boring "full-face-to-camera" style video that many creators seem to do, with endless talking head close-ups of themselves banging on about something or other of no interest whatsoever.
You create a very watchable atmosphere / mood with your productions, and the quality of photography, narration and music says a lot about your creative skills in all of those areas, plus of course your editing. All very engaging, warm and relaxing. Loved the lambs gambolling around in the fields, too! Thanks again. :-)

I'm not sure whether I made a similar comment before. However:
If you start a YT channel that is not just for your family and friends, you should be able to offer something unique.
The images and composition here definitely stand out among channels generally, but certainly among canalboat videos! I would not keep watching this channel, however, if the narration and choice of music weren't at least adequate to the outstanding quality of the images.
Beautiful photography, nicely put together, could be a pro.

I have seen other boaters putting the water caps(lid) down and was surprised that they don't go overboard more often. Having worked in the Aerospace industry, I am surprised they do not have safety chains fitted so they cannot be detached from the boat. Probably not practical to fit one now but the initial design was flawed. Anything in a Satellite that can become detached had to have a restraining strap attached.
It is supposed to have a chain, but the screw to attach it has snapped in the threads at some point before we got to it, we haven't been successful in getting it out yet. Maybe a drill could work, but we haven't got that far yet!

I need to leave the boat for three month at a time it’s safe there?
