There is no such thing as Malaysia Independence Day. 31 August is not a Malaysian Independence Day. It is the State of Malaya Independence Day.
(2) Malaysia has never being colonised. Msia was formed on 16 Sept 1963 by four Independent States ie Malaya, Singapore, Sabah n Sarawak.

One of the news portals says between 8:00a and 11:00a but I've also heard it starts around 7:00a. It will be fairly long and they want to get done before it gets too warm.

make sure to arrive way before 7am to get the seats and also the mrt starts operating at 430am so maybe you can go early:)
