as someone who LOVED Eastward while playing it but never got through much of it, this made me realize that it was super Zelda-y and it was a really fun game to try out between the time I played BOTW and TOTK! It was really nice to see someone talk about it from a Zelda perspective :)
Noo, Tunic has a bunch of secrets, wayy more secrets than it seems like you found (I could totally be mistaken). It even has some charming characters to talk to if you translate the language. I really liked the fairy puzzles and whatnot. The "final" big puzzle was super rewarding, and the game has even more puzzles, but I dropped them when it turned into an ARG with links to real websites.
I only showed the first couple of hours of gameplay to avoid spoilers, but I did go on to complete the game. And as I said in the review, it was indeed an incredible game.
@@knightpohtaytoe you didn't say it met the criteria for charming characters D: Idm, I guess none of them really had too strong of a personality. I personally enjoyed talking with some of them though. [mini spoiler even for those who have beaten the game] There is an alternative ending btw. Not sure if you found it?
It always blows my mind that there are no alternatives to traditional 3D Zelda games. Okami is pretty much the only one that seems to take that title. I've never really been drawn to the 2D Zelda games in the same way, and despite BotW/TotK being great games they don't scratch the same itch, so I've been really missing traditional 3D Zelda. The last one we got was 13 years ago! And we only ever got 5 of them total! I never understood the people saying the formula was getting stale for that reason If anyone has recommendations for traditional 3D Zelda-likes, please let me know!
I am relieved to know that Unsighted has a timer free mode, because it looks really cool (i’m a sucker for sci-fi cyberpunk stuff) but the fact that it ran on a timer was an instant no for me. Knowing this i’ll check it out!
Eastward is something VERY good as a zelda like but it got so much stuff that makes its more than a zelda like is hella cool. The fact this is first makes me surprised, but the soundtrack is a banger. There is just so much love in it.
No, don’t worry, I also wanted Issun to shut up when I played Okami. And yeah, the text is super slow. You can only skip scenes in your second playthrough. Glad you tried that game out though. Issun never shutting his mouth (and those weird perverted moments) aside, it was a really fun game (for me). You’re right about the tedious part. It’s not for everybody, even if they did make Issun talk less.
It's a shame that you basically skipped the only game on this list that is a lot like classic 3d Zelda because the intro was too long for you. Okami is great and it opens up more only a bit after the point you have played to. It also has a lot of cool characters and the dungeons are great! For me, playing with motion controls helped a lot. Makes drawing a lot faster which makes combat more fun as well even though it always stays pretty simple and mashy to be fair.
“It has neat concepts but it’s very handholdy” as he’s in the literal tutorial noooooooo Okami is such a great game, it’s just very niche, and a great niche, it fills a spot no other game can for me.
As a response to both of you, I agree that Okami probably is the closest to a classic 3d Zelda game on this list, but there is absolutely no excuse for that intro. Some Zelda games have long intros but NONE of them re-explain every single new concept to you in three different ways back to back. Even if I had pushed past that point, it doesn't improve the mediocre combat, INSANELY slow text speed, and the very one-note drawing system. I understand why some people enjoy this game, and I may have enjoyed it if I had first played it when I was younger and needed the handholding, but it is absolutely not a game I could recommend in today's gaming landscape.
@@knightpohtaytoe well you say that but Okami is also VERY very long, it has like 3 final bosses, when you think you defeated the final boss...another one shows up it's a VERY beefy game XD so it's not one you can quickly jump into and play for the weekend, it's an investment. but thankfully it's not difficult either, so it never feels demanding to play
..and maybe Steam is on PC, and Zelda historically is Nintendo exclusive. So, in Russia for example gamers massively got to know the series only since Breath of the Wild nuked the now most popular AAA open-world genre. Of course, Zelda is a massive influence on fundamentals of many genres. But it is not self-evident on PC, even if you play since 1990s like me.
Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is very similar to the earlier Zeldas.
It's sequel is also great
Oh! I didn’t realize it had released, tysm! I need to go play that immediately.
@@SealProgrammer No problem, always love recommending people Turnip Boy
The same studio made Blue Fire if I recall.

It was definitely a highlight on this list! I gotta revisit it soon now that the new DLC came out!

Yeah Tunic is CRAZY the mountain door puzzle is so cool
Also it's the most Zelda like in the video for sure
@@wertyfoxy22 did you find the start of the ARG in the game?

You should play Crosscode
It's a very fun game with Zelda inspiration while being pretty unique aswell
I hope you reach 1 million subscribers because you are a very amazing person and I wish the best.

Death's door has me feeling a little cult of the lamb-ish I would actually kinda like this game I think
Hold on, I'm going to go steal a computer to play these games.
I might have to go check some of these out
good stuff keep it up
you should definitely turn this into a series edit: however i completely understand if you don't want to because of the low reception
