I really like the artist's other work (The North Sea games, Horizons, Robin Hood and the Merry Men), but that initial cover - because of the woman on the left - was very off-putting. It looks like I'm not the only one that felt that way as there's now a new cover uploaded to BGG (the same image Rahdo's using as the thumbnail for these videos), and I think it's much better.
If you find the time, I'd very much appreciate your opinion concerning the game's weight and luck factor. From what I understand they integrated a lot of ways to mitigate the luck coming from the dice - but are you driven to decisions anyway? Thanks in advance as well as for your splendid work!
i'd call it a light to midweight game, a "gateway plus". the dice definitely form the foundation that you build your strategy around, no doubt, but this is true for castles of burgundy or any other dice-centered euro :)
Hi Rahdo. In the comments, you said this was a keeper for you and Jen. I tried to look up your rating score for the game. But I don't see this game listed in your collection, and I don't see it listed in the games you got rid of. Did you ever own it at all?
it would be a keeper if the publisher sent me a final retail copy, but that rarely happens. i generally just do the prototype runthrough (for free) and then move on. sometimes they send a final, most of the time they don't :)
well since i generally dismiss 4x out of hand and have never found any of them to be a keeper when tried, but this one we decided is a keeper, i'd have to say it's at the top of the heap! (still prefer 3x though)
Ha... Busy day hein? Most expensive Kickstarter day ever... All these great games and still the Batman game to debut in the afternoon... Quick question: Is there a particular reason you never reviewed Rise to Nobility or Robin Hood (Final Frontier games)? Anything you dont like in the games or simply the publishers never got in touch? Thanks!
they did contact me about RtN and i took a look and passed as i wasn't keen on how the the game was balanced. i gave them a lot of feedback, not sure what they did with it. looked great and i loved the pro-immigration theme! after that, they never contacted about RH.
rahdo maybe you offended them ;-) In all honesty the last two games they put looked a bit lacking. Even Robin Hood looks a overly dicey for a Euro (lots of test roles with little dice manipulation), though art and theme are very intriguing, so far I haven't been drawn to a single Robin Hood themed game despite loving the folk lore to bits
Great overview. Thank you.
looking past the box art, this looks to be a really cool game, i'll have to keep an eye out for it. Thanks Richard!

I really love PVP interactions. It's my favorite element.

Yeah, I was curious about that too. How does it's weight compare to other eurogames?

amazing artwork, I wish it had a little more weight :)

Where does it stands for you in 4x category?

DTM I was wondering the same question because Rahdo loves the Art of the Mico as so do I...
