The Real Group was my favourite A cappella group until I discovered Home Free and I really love them still! in 2018 I got the opportunity to watch both The Real Group and Home Free in Sweden within a couple of months and I also had the pleasure to talk to the members of the groups on both occasions! It warmed my heart to hear that the groups very well knew about each other and were fans of the other group! Especially Rob Lundquist of Home Free talked dearly about The Real Group. A fun fact is that Rob's family derives from Sweden! I really like this concept of a week dedicated to a country. It's a big bonus for me as a Swede as well this week in particular! :) Keep up the amazing work! Love your insights and thoughts!
I heared this group at our local jazz festival some years back and still remember that performance with joy. They are very popular guests at jazz festivals and have done more than 2000 concerts all over the world. They have released 16 albums.
Maybe a little more reminiscent of Manhattan Transfer. They're excellent. I agree on "Don't Worry Be Happy". You should give his song "Common Threads".a listen. I used to play that for my youngest, Emily, when she was a baby. Now she's 22 Ha! You also thought of Manhattan Transfer. Thanks for another awesome reaction Tim in Texas
You should actually check out Bobby McFerrin - he is so much more than just "Don't worry be happy" - try his a cappella version of "Blackbird" or "I feel good" (one man show a cappella without loopstation). Also a recomandation for not a group but an amazing a cappella choir (which was invited in stage by "The Rolling Stones" on Roskilde festival): Vocal Line - check out "True North" or their rendition of the Coldplay song "Viva La Vida". A cappella groups can be very diverse - other great groups not mentioned yet: "Take 6", "Vox North", then there's the whole barbershop genre - also a cappella, but completely different check out "Husar".
The Swedish music industry is quite impressing, based on accessibility (every kid has the right to learn an instrument for free if they want to, and may borrow an instrument for the municipal music school), long winters (plenty of time for practicing, a melancholic and very melodic folklore tradition that makes the harmonies quite interesting and a high level of technical perfection (again related to the long winters, I guess). Many world famous artists have chosen to record in Sweden, Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys, Celine Dion, Lenny Kravitz, Harry Styles, Beyoncé, Led Zeppelin, Tom Jones and Rolling stones being among them.
And you won't put them in the same category like Dirty Loops or Chris Klafford, two other suggestions for the Swedish week besides (it is after all December 13, in Sweden LUCIA). Dirty Loops: Genre Jazz fusion " Next To You", and " World On Fire" Chris Klafford " Tenneessee Whiskey" Kitchen Session. [S02-E01] Chris Kläfford - Before You Go, Guesting a Kitchen Edition [S02-E07 ] and/ or "Cold At The Altar" MV. And this is for you alone to enjoy. I really wish more people knew about The Real Group. I hope you check more of them out wether it be on or off camera. They're stuff is so good.
Hi, they were one of the shining stars during Sweden week. I'll definitely look into more from them. Thank you so much for checking out my reaction.

Sounded to me like an acapella version of swing or Boogie Woogie. 30's , 40's. I kept thinking of the Andrews Sisters.
They are really good.
I thought of Manhattan Transfer and Swingle Singers almost immediately. You brought that up too.

That was a fun song! Loved the warbled and drawn out 'Yeah' at the end. And yes, warbled is an old term. I guess they call it a 'riff' now.

The name, to my understanding, is ironic, due to the fact (I believe) that they started singing ABBA songs. Like "real ABBA". A teasing name.
