Won't lie, I'd love to see a collection of post-ND games, something along the lines of Wrath of Cortex, one or two of the GBA games, Twinsanity, and Crash Bash in one package would be a solid seller I think.
Could be a cool compromise between not having to fully recreate the games in place of a Crash 5 but at least giving some slight improvements/fixes here and there, but I do wonder if after remaking those four games if going back to rereleases might annoy some fans?
I'd say the characters never looked this good ever before. N-sane got Crash and Cortex right but the rest looked atrocious. Especially Dingodile, Pura and Coco, these 3 literally looked more like reanimated taxidermy than real characters. Crash in the 90s was inspired by classic Looney Tunes cartoons and on the original concepts of him were drawn to resemble those. Obviously it was impossible in the time to perfectly capture that whacky, cartoony look in games, but literally every later adaptation somehow looked over this and Crash 4 in 2020 was the first one to actually go back to the original plans and 100% nail the look of all characters. I'd even say this is what Crash was meant to look like in 96 if not for technical limitations. The only thing I'd criticize is that Cortex looks way too young. But the rest are spot on.
@@alchemy5750 The characters are HEAVILY retooled in Crash 4. N Gin looks 'handsome', Brio looks like a simian, Crash looks buff with huge shoulders, Cortex looks more like his Titans self, Coco looks chibi, etc. Sure they got they the cartoony styling down better than the remakes, but the latter at least tampered less with the core sillouettes of the characters. If TFB wanted to do their own thing, fine, nearly every other developer has done such, but they shouldn't have treated it like a natural follow on of the originals, especially when other games like Crash Nitro Kart did a way better job doing that. That's my issue with Crash 4, it references the series but more in the same way as an adaptation of separate canon does, but TFB want it to be seen as a direct and loyal sequel to what ND done, over any other entry after them in fact.
I don't really see the what's wrong with the characters. Dingodile and Coco looks better than before. Crash still looks as good as before. My only problems might be N Tropy, who really went into a weird direction. And maybe N. Brio, who looks far too unstable/crazy compared to crash2. However I do agree they made some levels way too long, and it makes getting all the gems/relics really unfun on some of the end game levels. Not a big fan of several N verted gimmicks that just hurt the eyes either (at least on switch)
@@bouledeflipper I'm curious why you said N Tropy, who had arguably the least drastic redesign. He looks fairly the same besides a couple cartoony nuances being missing like his long wavy eyebrows, while everyone else has noticable proportion and silouette changes, even Crash with his huge shoulders and lankier body. Not that I'm protesting, just wanna know what was particularly weird about Tropy and not for the others? I agree on the level design however, the length of levels along with the hurting graphical tricks making it hard to trek through them makes each one feel like a slog. The far away camera and occasionally bad depth perception (which is still apparent in the normal levels, N Verted just makes it WORSE) especially makes it feel like the game is actively trying to stop you enjoying yourself rather than making a fun addictive challenge.

I love how the game acts as if coco and Tawna are buddies even though we have literally never seen them in the same room together let alone interacting with each other
I really don't get why they even included alt Tawna. She looks and feels out of place and wasn't that memorable of a character to begin with. I kinda get they wanted a girl among the new playable characters cause yk, Crash was always a "for both girls and boys" game, but you literally already had Nina Cortex with the exact same ability as alt Tawna already estabilished long ago (grappling hook), and a way cooler design and story. Nina would've been better, and you can't change my mind about this one.
@@alchemy5750 My guess is that they wanted to appeal to the classic fanbase as much as possible, even though no mention of original tawna is very weird and sad
Alt. Tawna was unnecessary in my opinion. the NST redesign of Tawna was already good enough for her to be adventuring in? They shoulda just used regular Tawna. Or if you want a girl with a different design then Ami and Isabella were right there with almost zero characterization...
@@teejay5160 I said "post-ND" instead of just "ND". I'm aware of the Warped follow-up but the preparation for future stories is missing and there are even some pointless things. IAT Cortex in the final ending should reveal his plans to create Crunch later, as TWoC is the first 6th gen Crash Bandicoot game (not the first post-ND Crash Bandicoot game tho).
@@yottadrive I meant because it takes place after Warped that some post-ND references are gonna be more limited. And they don't have to set up the other games at the end just to have gaps bridged, this story can just exist in between and those can just exist later.

Alt Tawna clinging to Crash and Coco soley because they remind her of people she knew is very creepy and sociopathic lol. Yet they want this character to be liked so badly. She truly is the captain marvel of Crasg bandicoot.
I think it's more they thought they'd appeal to fans of Tawna not by actually giving her proper spotlight....but by making a completely new character to replace her. It's not like a one off 'Evil Crash' counterpart thing like in Twinsanity, she's blatantly designed to be a main character over the original now. Basically the equivelent of 'You don't need her anymore, we made a BETTER one'. :P
I think the issue with the references is more that TFB's format feels more like a lite adaptation of them, a reference in their own style that is meant to be in place of them than a follow on to them. That would be fine in an actual adaptation that commonly have loads of those little nods, like Toys For Bob's own rendition of Crash, but this was plainly marketed as THE true sequel to the Crash games, the new ongoing direction for Crash that's more loyal than anything else before it. I think that's the same reason the Spyro Reignited redesigns were so contentious. They would have been okay as 'Toys For Bob's Spyro' a personalized take for a spin off like so many others done before, but they were for a REMAKE, a 'return to roots'. They were placing their own heavy overhaul as 1:1 enough to be a representation of the classics over the classics themselves, basically they wanna rewrite history in their own image (ironic given Crash 4's story). Remember that TFB originally stated Crash 4 was a different timeline from those later games which the others placed in what was likely a defunct timeline that would never be used again. They changed that to Crash 4 being a midquel, but it comes off a bit like backstepping when they realised ripping on the post-ND era wasn't cool anymore and replacing it with a 'better' canon that maybe reimagined the better bits once in a while maybe wouldn't go down as well as they thought (Nitro Fuelled just before it being a love letter to the whole franchise probably played a lot into that, fans were starting to accept the franchise warts and all rather than demanding a wiped and 'better' version). And even then if all the games afterwards are following Crash 4 it will remain a midquel format, thus the other games are still defunct. That's actually a rather unpleasant narrative consistency in TFB's games, 'we made a BETTER version'. We made a BETTER mask quad team. We made a BETTER Tawna, Coco and Tropy are a BETTER hero and villain than Crash and Cortex.' Everything not only feels more like a substitute rather than a continuation of stuff before, but it's main substance seems to be that it's SOOOO much better than that old, lame stuff we had to settle with before.
Honestly, idrc about them paying respect to the post ND titles. Most of them have at least one or two good ideas to spare. But for the most part, lack consistency with the spirit and style of the original games because they were trying too hard to evolve Crash with the times. Crash 4 isn't much different in that regard. Sure, it plays like the classics, but... that's literally the only thing it gets right. And even there, it has glaring issues. Not that gameplay isn't the most important, but I was never a fan of Crash purely for the gameplay. So, I'm still waiting for a new game that can actually satisfy me completely.
That was something TFB were also developing (from an early state) alongside Crash 4 and their upcoming Microsoft collab doesn't quite mean that they jumped ship.
I can't believe how much of a mess the levels are... after Skylanders they had such a long history of practice and that annoys me to crazyiness i am also disappointed Tawna doesnt get alternate costumes and Cocos personality stinks

Having grown up on the original trilogy as well, I can say Crash4 is absolutely spectacular. the sequel you've been waiting for! ^^
2:47 this would all be nice if didn’t feel like a sonic adventure game
The expectation of completing 10+ minute levels PERFECTLY for time trials and the character redesigns really brings this game down
I'd say the characters never looked this good ever before.
That's just a symptom of TfB not really understand the core principles of game design, unfortunately.
Hmmm. I think I'll stick around. Subscriber 85.
References and easter eggs are nice, but what happened to the _lore?_
How so?
The events of Twinsanity, Nitro Fueled, etc. Have they been retconned out?
@@Joseph_Drew_III Crash 4 can be seen as in-between Warped and Wrath pretty easily. We won't know unless we get a new mainline Crash game, and you know, that probably won't happen rn :v
@@Joseph_Drew_III Not quite. Basically according to a GDC 2021 presentation by Paul Yan, the other games come after Crash 4 in its chronological timeline despite earlier statements.

that transition into a plinkett review was utterly seamless XD
ya man at first nsane trilogy was my preference but Crash4 won me over HARD
It is underrated in the larger gaming scene imo.
Is B-Mask Plinkett here? 🤣
we need crunch and nina back tho, they were main characters
-also alt tawna sucks-
I love how the game acts as if coco and Tawna are buddies even though we have literally never seen them in the same room together let alone interacting with each other
@@billyboleson2830Even the game itself admits this with the Crash 2 flashback tapes
Here's hoping Toys for Bob makes a Banjo Kazooie game
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Level design and easter eggs aren't enough. IAT story still ignores post-ND Crash Bandicoot games.
What more should they have done?
@@teejay5160 The story should fit.
@@yottadrive what does that mean? It's still a Warped follow up, what else has to be done?
@@teejay5160 I said "post-ND" instead of just "ND". I'm aware of the Warped follow-up but the preparation for future stories is missing and there are even some pointless things. Twinsanity doesn't have Alt Tawna, so IAT should show other Alt characters.

Exactly, crash 4 makes all the games cannon in other universes which makes sense since they are traveling through space and time.
They never go to a Woc/Twinsanity/Titans universe, tho. The references to those are also part of the main timeline.
Makes me sad TFB wont make another Crash game...
Not with that attitude!

@@gunkhead Legit Dingodile’s design this game is peak. Crash 4 is one of the best post ND games in the franchise and it’s actually not even close
Yeah, cuz it's not that good lol
@@e-122psi3 I wonder if it's more using her without rewriting her original character, as suggested by B-Mask?
@@teejay5160 In that case, I feel like they may as well have just made a new character.
Her new look is classy & kinky/sexy, through
The gross char redesigns in 4 absolutely bring down the experience
I feel the same about NST's designs.
Love how you said a whole lot of nothing
let them do a new jak already
Thenivision shit on the revival with that garbage Moba whatever-that-shit-was and Toys 4 Bob jumped ship entirely.
That was something TFB were also developing (from an early state) alongside Crash 4 and their upcoming Microsoft collab doesn't quite mean that they jumped ship.
