I made this video to show that i'm not blowing smoke, and that there's an obvious cut quality issue with this hustler. I dont know if it's just mine or if they are all like this. At first the mulch kit was to blame, then the engine rpm was to blame. but now with the mulch kit removed and the rpm set, there's still obvious cut quality issues. the scag walks all over this hustler, and that's using the same entry level non-commercial deck found on the liberty z and freedom z. also, if you listen to the engine sound on the scag, it sounds like it's turned down compared to the hustler. I'll confirm this and post a video later. The hustler is clean and in showroom condition (as you can see at the beginning of the video) and is sitting in the garage waiting to go back to the dealer, they claim they are going to buy it back but waiting on hustler now, it's been almost 2 weeks and they are dragging their feet. It's a shame because I put a lot of time and money into the hustler and somethings just not right with it.
5/25 Update: For all those wondering, I contacted the dealer again today, I was told they approved buying back the mower last week, but were waiting on @HustlerTurf credit department to fund the dealer or something now. They aren't sure how much they will give me, or if they will even cover the taxes I paid. Everything is still very unclear, No one has a definite answer yet, and none of this is very confidence inspiring.
That's where the hustler actually cuts the best. But that's too low for my situation. , the mower should cut good regardless of deck height, not just one setting. The scag seems to cut great almost everywhere, and I don't like scag because of how they treated me on 4 new scags I bought in the past 2 years, if scag made things right I'd entertain another one.
The answers is in the deck design the hustler has more distance between the baffles and blades to allow better air flow of grass clippings and the spread of discharge in wet or healthy grass though it will lack the vacuum to cut grass in that condition (dry dead and tall), simply just caring for the lawn by gud over seeding along with watering and fertilizer i promise you the hustler will shine in it! And on the other hand the scag will choke up on such grass, either way you made a gud point scag will serve you better for the conditions of that yard!
The hustler cuts like it has a mulch kit on but it doesn't. I mowed with this one at a commercial business and I had to give up that location. It was so embarrassing. Hustler won't fool me again.

scag patriot is not commercial, it's a homeowner line up from scag. Scag Tiger cat is the lowest end on commercial. If you go to turf tiger you be doing serious mowing, brush hog.
You cut deeper thicker grass with the Hustler. You ran the Scag through short easy grass. This isn’t a fair comparison at all. You should run both mowers through the same conditions on the same day. This video doesn’t prove anything. Pure click bait.
Not really, the hustler grass was slightly more dense, but the blade tip speed is higher and I actually went slower with the hustler. I think you can put two and two together and figure out the hustler didn't cut properly. Sorry you're late to the party,. I have several other cut quality videos, but they are on hold depending on hustler's response to this situation.
@morejelloplease Nathan Taylor is Right. That " very dense 2ft tall grass you used for the Hustler at first looked more like a wheat field compared to the other... Compare Apples to Apples No Apples to Oranges.
and it was dryer dead looking and green grass ain't as tuff! we got 3 hustler 60" ...2 xone's and a superduty ....they are awesome! you should only be cutting one third of the length off..so if at 2.5 ....1.25 is all that you should be cutting off.. and with sharp blades in that scenario wide open full stick and ours are great! most places are not smooth enough for 12mph lol
Ok, so tall, thick dry grass is always gonna be tougher than any green grass that is shorter. Unfair test. Do both at same time in same conditions. Tall, dry grass is some of the toughest conditions to get a clean tight cut! Also, cutting at 4 inch, is always gonna be a sloppy 1 pass cut vs a tight 2.5 in cut.
@j.garrison7744 they were both sharp the hustler had brand new blades as it was a new mower i tried 4 different types of blades on the hustler and it was junk. The point is, the scag with 60 hour blades but better than a brand new hustler.

@muyoso I have more hustler videos, I showed the blades were on properly. Some videos were put on private or deleted while I waited on resolution from hustler. Bottom line If you think I have nothing better to do than bash hustler then find another channel. I tell it like it is here. Some people have had no problems, I had tons of problems with scag and the hustler was supposed to be the solution however it had its own worse than scag issues, end result the dealer bought it back and I bought a used scag. The hustler was crap, they are owned by MTD now and customer service was absurd.
the scag is fully commercial the hustler s like a bobcat i have
Call it what you want, if it doesn't cut, it's not going to stay in my garage. BTW, the fx691 engine found in both is "Commercial "
@@morejelloplease yes sir I a understand it’s the deck that makes the difference even with the steering wheel mows you can put them twin turbos but the deck and the blades they put on are no good
scag patriot is not commercial, it's a homeowner line up from scag. Scag Tiger cat is the lowest end on commercial. If you go to turf tiger you be doing serious mowing, brush hog.
Heard someone say it was trumps fault.
Really
Impressive.
@sullie35 my thoughts exactly 💯
and it was dryer dead looking and green grass ain't as tuff! we got 3 hustler 60" ...2 xone's and a superduty ....they are awesome! you should only be cutting one third of the length off..so if at 2.5 ....1.25 is all that you should be cutting off.. and with sharp blades in that scenario wide open full stick and ours are great! most places are not smooth enough for 12mph lol
My Cub cadet will kick the hustlers ass.😂. It's a 2013. Hustler you need to get your s*** together.
😂 you are so full of crap just like this guy who made the video.
what a crappy lawn full of weeds and dirt lmfaooooo
Welcome to Texas
Why compare one with good blades to the other with bad blades? 🫤
@j.garrison7744 they were both sharp the hustler had brand new blades as it was a new mower i tried 4 different types of blades on the hustler and it was junk. The point is, the scag with 60 hour blades but better than a brand new hustler.
