I know exactly what you mean when you say that his tunic has lines, greek summer army uniforms are produced in the same way! Looking forward to see that guy taking shape, solid start done on him Gav. Thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work marra!
Hi Gavin, I really like the way you are painting the cloth on your figure. It looks very realistic. I haven't really used the community tab either. I really should post more updates. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff
Hi Gav ,the figure lookin great .Ishall go and have a look at the community page .Didnt know anything about that ,like you say i attend to ignore youtube messages aswell.Stay safe and happpy modeling
I have like the idea that i can stick up work in progress photos and a bit of info without bogging people down in too many vids , cheers Paul . Regards Gav.
Great start to something of a new scale for you. More experienced painters, like yourself, indeed, will acknowledge that techniques that work for smaller scales, (15mm/28mm/54mm) and even then there are differences, just don't work as well on a larger model figure. You show that here and the results look really good. The 'stippling' highlight effect on the uniform trousers suggest a 'soft serge' type of material, while the use of 'horizontal line highlights' replicate the much coarser/rougher woven cloth of the camo-jacket... (It's a subtle difference but we can see by the early results what you're going for...) On a 28mm mini that's not going to make a difference, (if you could do it at all!!!) but on a 120mm figure it's a whole different set of techniques. Because the areas are larger, you need, (if skill allows) to do exactly what you've done here. Heavy 'woven' (Linen? Sailcloth???) type camo-material isn't going to look the same as 'soft' wollen uniform serge. (On a 15mm/28mm your eye can't tell the difference, on a 120mm figure you can...) Each different material, (cotton serge/woven heavy 'linen'/leather/Etc. need to be treated very differently... As usual in your 'tutorial videos', even though I'm not a fan of larger figures, I'm picking up tips I could adapt to my 28mms. (That base shade on the camo-jacket, with the subtle highlights/shade, looks more realistic as a 'base' than just 'splooshing' on a base coat of 'Mid Tan German Camo' and calling it done! Because the 'base-coat' with shade and highlights looks so good, you could POSSIBLY be a little less 'exact' with the green and dark brown camo shapes... At least on a 28mm mini...) Looking foward to seeing what you do with this chap! (HELL OF A LOT OF WORK THOUGH!!!) *Laughing!!!* xx SF
Its taken me about 5 hours to paint the cammo bellow the belt line and i am still not finished marra . And although i am trying to get it right it will only ever be in the style of ! Regards Gav.
Hi Gav, nice figure. And good start on the painting. I will follow this with interest (as I do with all your video's) as I have a 1/16 Sturmbannfuhrer from Das Werk on my desk with the necessary camouflage patterns.. Gr Frank
A great sculpted figure, which will become with your painting skills a nice figure for presenting on exhibitions. Wish you much fun during the work with it. Best wishes and a nice weekend, Gav. Joachim
Very cool figure. I like that you impart your knowledge as to what you are painting and when and where they were during the war. Really nice update my friend.

Lovely model Gav :) Agreed it's /nothing/ to do with the very questionable beliefs of the regime, it's about the visual impact of the subject.
