    This is the first video ever that I comment and like… you are very detailed and informative. I can absolutely remove my dashboard without any hesitation. (In a side note, I wish you didn’t fast forwarded the end when you removed all the screws as it would have been great to know exactly where the rest of the screws are located). Overall, awesome video. Thank you so much for taking the time to record it and for sharing it with us.
    Much appreciated!

    This is one of the best videos for this type of work. Well done! One Question. Is there anything you recommend replacing while the dash is out? You know, like... Since you're in there, kind of a thing?

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you I appreciate that.
      Most of the things in the dash are replaced if broken. But things I would suggest looking at to see how it’s going off the top of my head are.
      1.looking at your center console area for any liquid spills that could of got into the ACSM (airbag control module) with the battery disconnected it is safe to remove the connectors and check for any corrosion inside the connector.
      2. If your windshield was recently replaced and you have a wind noise coming through. The repairing company should fix this if it does happen but you can get a good look at the glue and see if there is any missed spots and add some if needed to block the noise.
      You can also check if the expanding foam tape was replaced. This can also cause a wind noise and in some cases be added during this service. Most G series BMW cars take two strips of expanding foam tape.
      3. There is a drain for the evaporator you can look at if you have a water leak. A sweet smell can indicate a coolant leak (usually blue in color for BMW coolant) so a heater core may be leaking. If there is no color and only a moldy smell is present chances are it can be an mis aligned drain. If the leak is closer to the front door areas I would look for clogged water drains in the sunroof or missing lower clips in the door panels.
      Hope this helps!

    Very informative video. Thank you for sharing. Question, I have x5 f15 with leather dashboard, my leather not cracked but kind of peeled off in some spots, do you think is it possible to remove windshield and kind of glue it back from the front without taking everything off? What is your opinion?

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well, it’s a difficult question to answer without seeing the condition that it is in. But I wouldn’t recommend applying glue because that material shrivels up and becomes hard. It would be difficult to properly lay flat and there will be a gap as it won’t cover the same space anymore.
      Since the fix isn’t guaranteed I wouldn’t risk damaging the windshield this way.

    Excellent video. Very thorough explanation with great close up video. I have the merino leather dash in my 2021 X5M. Is the peeling leather a thing I'll have to look forward to if I keep the car long enough?

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If it is exposed to direct sunlight for long periods or time it can happen. There are things you can do to help prevent it.
      Park in a garage when possible.
      If you park in direct sunlight using a sun deflector on the windshield will help.
      Don’t use any chemicals or armor all wipes on the dash. Just a microfiber cloth and water to clean.
      I would also keep a close eye on the leather while your X5 is in warranty. At the first sign of any peeling take it in to have it taken care of.

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmmm that may be hard to find. It would have to be one with all the same features and not to mention the condition of the one find might not be great. If you’re willing to remove two dashes. I would consider just removing yours and finding an upholstery shop to re-new the leather. That way it will last longer.

    Great Video! My 7 series has the same issue. Do you have contact information? I see others have commented and are interested in getting you to fix similar issues, however you state that you don't have a shop. I am perplexed, within the video, you mentioned the owner had saved a significant owner of money for the dash replacement of only $500. This would lead me to believe you offer your services for others. I thought of another possibility is to remove the windshield and apply adhesive to the leather. What are your thoughts? I appreciate if you can provide further contact info i.e email, etc.. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment.

    • @friendlymechanic9778
      @friendlymechanic9778  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Best way to contact me is through TH-cam comments or instagram for private messages. The owner did save money having me do the work but the cars I post videos on are family and close friends. I do my work on my driveway and can only work on one car at a time. I would love to be able to help as many people as possible but I just don’t have space for it.
      I wouldn’t recommend removing the windshield and applying adhesive as the leather shrinks and becomes stiff. It’s hard to move around and form it back to its original place. I’m not sure how bad yours is but the car I worked on this was absolutely not an option and a complete leather replacement was the only option.
