    A great speech indeed!!!
An explained answer to the question "who is an Indian" without becoming bias towards any particular community or orgaisation. His knowledge about the different ethnic groups, people across the world is magnificent. The short stories in Mr. Tharoor speech are always worth listening and make the listener more connected with him.

As usual, the speech presents Shashi Tharoor at his best. I have forwarded the piece to my children to enlighten them about what remains verbally unexpressed in them.

Amazing wit and expression of the word "Indian" and "Hindu" by Shashi Tharoor. A truly unbiased and concise speech about the diversity of India. Exemplary!

What awes me the most about this man is how well constructed his speeches actually are. He rarely loses focus even under intense pressure. His interview with Mehdi Hasan on Al Jazeera is one of my favourites where he was asked about the Indian Army’s role in Kashmir. Not only did he answer the questions in the most diplomatic way possible but also dampened Mehdi’s line of questioning by his smooth and witty response. He is an absolute legend.

A humble opinion. Perhaps you could title this video "Who is an Indian?" or "What is India?" instead? I am sure it would garner a lot more views than presently. This is a rather balanced intellectual view of the multiplicity that is celebrated in India, without the usual oft-used pseudo-secular attitude (which generally disses on the Hindu). Thank you.

He didn't insult India by calling economy class as cattle class, he insulted the airlines. It all depends on which airline he used and how much leg room he had. There are airlines where the legroom is indeed very tight for a large framed person. Now w.r.t local trains or trains in general, the leg room in a plane is no-where comparable even if you compare 3rd class compartments. In addition you have the option to stand and move around. I can thus see, how it could have evoked that response.

The success of a speech on any occasion depends on whether the speaker has something to say, or whether he merely has to say something. There are only two things which make an audience sleepy--poor ventilation and an uninteresting speaker! Shashi, indeed, did have a lot to say in the course of his speech, and, of course, the speech itself was out-and-out interesting, as borne out by the reaction of the audience. A truly amazing speaker!!

Excellent! Great is your effort to proudly portray the picture of this pristine paradise on planet in perfect parables. But, there is so much of repetition not only in expressing the idea, but even in the terminology and the style of introduction...etc. (way of introducing the speaker is horribly linked to an unknown American friend for example)

DON'TLIVE ON FOOLS EARTH. Who told u he is corrupt. He never committed bigamy. By engaging a new marriage how on earth he become a womaniser. He must be far better than most people who really womanises, rapes & do whatever they like and at the same time try to keep a good image. Sashi Tharoor is a very knowledgable person & such people are the need of the hour for our politics.

  • @r8rdarklord

I don't know about the marriage angle, can you elaborate. Regarding scams and cartels that is congress and other parties as well. This is the reason why every one wants to jump on Kejriwal and others who bring these issues to the fore.

I am an Iranian Armenian who moved to United states I don't agree with some of the points made. As an Armenian growing up in Iran we kept our language, culture and religion which brings pride to most, but on the other hand we alienated ourselves from society and that seemed to work but never really found ourselves as part of community - to the extend that of some including myself don't speak Farsi properly. I feel the romanticism in the multi dish in one plate example but after moving to US and seeing the effect of dualism and dis-assimilation of peers and native American Armenians, I think this model your described doesn't work everywhere

I wish he had less politicized the lecture. He talks about changing our parochial ideologies, but doesn't refrain from mentioning only Barbri and Gujarat riots (Like a typical congress politician!!) I feel sad when people of such great academic repute don't remain neutral even while addressing young minds of the country's most premier institute. That is not being a true Indian.
