      @@DeclMilss you must not know how bugs work.. if there is a property with overgrowth and there’s a bug/rat infestation you can report them to the city. because it’s a breeding ground. Do you think they remain in that breeding ground? No they find new breeding grounds

      I agree with this but I also read that they make these in Rotterdam. Not all infrastructure in the Netherlands allows for planting trees, especially in the cities. The roots would destroy the city.
      I do believe this would be a great benefit to cities that want to bring nature back a bit more

      Watch their video's, their called the hacksmith. They are also the one's that made the first ever lightsabers. (Well technically it's just a really fucking hot torch.)

      @@cloudyloudy9278 I'd argue this is more advanced than the iron man stuff. I'm aware hacksmith are super talented and pull off some phenomenal feats of engineering but this is the kind of thing that legitimately provides hope for the future of this planet

    I'd be worried they'd allow the bad stuff, bad fungus to grow on to. How do you avoid that? Just keep an eye on 'structures'? Introduce species that'd combat it?

    It's an interesting idea but you could probably get the same effect by leaving a large piece of standing dead wood, and adding a new one every 5 years.
    There are many insects which rely on dead wood for food, such as stag beetle babies.

      Errr...you do know we plant trees and shrubs and shit in cities, right? This is just inventing the wheel again, but worse. Pretty standard techbro nonsense, looking to solve problems by using the system that created the problem in the first place. Unless somehow magically this conjures more room for plants into existence, wich it doesn't, it's quite pointless.
      Trees just have more benefits, including heat absorbtion via evaporation, providing shade, binding copious amounts of CO2, less dependency on watering past a certain age, and lasting much longer. Mother nature has been working on that project for _literal eons_ , some greenwashing tech startup is not going to come up with something better in just a couple of months or years.
      This is kind of neat solarpunk artwork though.

      @@vic_x I used "trees" as a blanket statement. Plantation timber is what's called a "monoculture" which isn't helpful for biodiversity.

      @@Obscurity.x they are not very structuraly sound because its difficult to work in reinforcements, like rebar. They dont look so great and it still takes a ton of work to finish the house, and is not much faster or cheaper than just pouring concrete or laying bricks or using prefabs. I am sure one day this will be the Nr.1 thing for building, but today its still just a gimmic

      The moment I saw it had holes and they said host to fungi, mosquitos and roaches were the first things I thought of. Or ants and gnats. Not to mention mice or rats. Would it not have worked like a vine supports where its a flatish surface?
      Imagine getting one of these things outside your house, and then immediately getting a fire ant infestation.
