Oh i found that glitch with little mario throwing fireballs way back in the early 90s. I had to have kids come to my house and prove I wasnt lying about it. I miss the days before the internet.
To do that, you have to try and get either Super or Fire Mario to land on both the axe and Bowser at the same time at the end of any Castle level (except World 8-4). Afterward, pick up a Super Mushroom and you will actually shrink. Then get the Fire Flower like normal and you will still be small, but also have Fire power. To restore the normal small/Super/Fire cycle, perform the same trick of landing on both the axe and Bowser.
I heard about minus world or jumping over flag pole but assumed prople were lying because they couldn't do it again and no internet. I owe some people apologies
7:29 There is actually a way to get out, but it involves using left+right which is only possible on emulators and on console if you have a broken controller. Crouch, then start pressing A rapidly while holding down left and right at the same time. You'll start to move out very slowly and eventually pop out of the wall.
Hence, why Nintendo simply filled up that gap starting with the arcade adaptation Vs. Super Mario Bros. in 1986. The second PAL cartridge release of the game also had this correction.
In case anyone's curious here's how the -1 clip works; When hitting a certain pixel on a block mario tries to stand on it for a frame (1/60 of a second) If big mario is crouched in a 1 block space, and he uncrouches, and clips up. If you're not still holding down and hit that pixel, mario will uncrouch, and clip into the wall
Yep. Its How The Game Handles Mario When He Is Stuck In And Gap Not High Enough For Him Causing Him To Slide Out To Stop Him From Being Stuck. Causing Mario To Slide.
Thanks for watching. This video features some sarcasm, dancing, and some awesome Super Mario Bros. glitches! I hope you enjoy it. Let me know if you'd like to see more Old School glitches. YOU ROCK!!! :D
5:08 - This trick works because the game unloads/disables the invisible walls on top and the bottom of the flagpole. The game does this to ensure that the Koopa doesn't get stuck beneath the level. 7:45 - This one works because the game has an enemy state counter in it's code. The running to the right after killing the first Goomba basically unloads it right away. Next up, when you suddenly turn left to hit the other Goomba, the game thinks it's the same one. Your timing needs to be precise as shown in the video. Because the game treats it as the same Goomba with a death Boolean variable turned to true WHILE IT'S ACTUALLY ALIVE, the game kinda doesn't know what to do and increases the enemy state counter (probably a logical error in the programming), a state-counter being something the game uses to load/unload enemies and objects from a list.
I remember back when I did the Little Fire Mario glitch for the first time without knowing of it's existence, and me and my brother lost our minds over it.
The Portal Mushroom glitch and the Koopa Flagpole Hop glitch all happen because the game treats the bottom of the screen and the top of the screen as the same space.
Your first one I encountered by accident as small Mario. I ended up killing bowser and flying towards the princess thus saving her and falling through the grey bricks below at the same time. I did not lose a life and continued onto the next level. Probably the coolest glitch I’ve ever seen.
I laughed at the part where Mario rescues Toad but by dying and where Toad says “Thank you Mario! But our princess is in another castle! And your dead!!” 😂😂😂
Don’t follow how he does it in this video. Just let first turtle pass. Stay on ground pressed all the way up against bottom stair and as second turtle is about to come off second stair just jump.
That's only reason I came here for. All the other tricks are pretty basic and have been done before but this one I haven't done. Like the top comment it's pretty hard to do.
The reason why -1 exists is because when you glitch in the wall it loads the warp from 5-2 (only the middle pipe). Once all the three pipes are completely on the screen they will trigger the normal warp event.
If you didn't already know, that over the flagpole glitch works because in the old Smb, the top and the bottom of the screen are the same place.Since the koopa is on the bottom, he is also on the top.
The deadly victory (or whatever you call it) was sometimes a glitch leading to another 2 glitches: extending the victory music inside a castle(it is like Mario is fighting below the lava) and the death music in the end of that castle victory music(thus Mario was considered as dead and restart the castle level instead of continuing to another level). I guess that glitch has a perfect time in which you wish to hope to continue to another level instead of dying in the end of the castle victory music. I still had fun doing the tiny fire Mario glitch while I discovered that you can walk under the floor using that koopa walk under the floor glitch(It was hard doing it actually because you had to time it right without falling down the pit obviously. Think of the stuck Mario glitch and 1up glitch without the 1up points combined). You forgot the star powerup music glitch when reaching the flagpole before the star powerup subsides. You can do that glitch only in 1-1 by letting the star powerup 'jump' to the right until it reaches a block of stairs. Then get the star powerup and run as fast as you can until you reach the flagpole to finish the level. As the star powerup subsides(so is the star powerup music by timing it right), the starting level music is played rather than the finish level music. Nintendo itself would just laugh at its work having glitches like that when that game hit the top spots in the past.
Pretty much every game back then had at least a handful of glitches. Things were a lot different back when it was all physical and 'fixing' a game once it's out would be a logistics nightmare at best.
what amazes me the most is how ppl found those glicthes. 4:52 how on earth did they find this kooopa-troopa glitch , i mean it's a series of moves you have to make ...
I remember when my dad showed me some tricks I was 5 years old I laughed at some i know some of these glitches if you die on a world and hold A And B you will respawn on world 8-1
I never could get the 1up trick but a friend did when I was younger. Instead of displaying a number it will eventually display a king's crown where the mario lives would be. That was early 90's
Also, that block next to the castle is so Mario doesn't run too far. Mario isn't actually disappearing, he's going behind the black door of the castle. He actually is still running behind it. So that block is there so Mario won't run off too far in front of the castle.
Actually, the main purpose of the block is to detect when to count down the time and score. After you touch the flag pole, the game sets Mario to walk forward until he touches any block. Once he does, the game puts his sprite behind the backround layer of the screen, causing him to disappear inside of the castle. It also signals when to count down the time and add it to the score. This is why glitches like the 8-2 bullet bill glitch work.
Starting with the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2, the one we call The Lost Levels, scroll stops were added to the end of almost all ground levels, which means the player can no longer run past the end castle if he successfully jumps over the flagpole (only a few stages allowed players to legitimately do this, including in Worlds 3-1, 8-1 and A-3 where beyond the end castle is a warp zone to another level); this change also applied to virtually all of the SMB1 ground levels in All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. However, the rest of us had to wait until Super Mario All-Stars for the run-past-the-end castle glitch to be corrected.
Really nice compilation of glitches! One of my favourite tricks is a slingshot Koopa jump. I have no idea what it's actually called. If you run and jump UP into a Koopas face (yes face, not head), Mario will slingshot himself into the air, a lot higher than regularly bouncing off an enemy. Because SMB1 doesn't have shell jumping like other Mario's, I use this technique a lot in a hack I'm working on.
I think some of these wall glitches are the reason why, starting with Super Mario World 1, a "crushing" mechanic was added that kills Mario if he tries to glitch through solid objects. You have to be careful when farming for lives using the Koopa shell...for some odd reason, Nintendo stored Mario's life count as a signed integer, so if you get Mario to 128 lives, it somehow wraps around to -128, causing an instant Game Over if he dies! D: (This is probably why many games since Super Mario Bros. 3 cap you at 99.)

My favorite and easy to do glitch is roller skating Mario. When you come out of a pipe as fire Mario, hold b and jump. Keep holding b and you will slide around on one foot for a while.
in 1-1 if you follow the star and wait until just at the top of the first step platform to get it, then run as fast as possible to the flagpole it will make the end music stop and play the level music while tallying your points instead
I bet that you are talking about the piranha plant. I don't know if that's an inspiration, because Super Mario Bros. was created 5 years after Pac-Man.
It works on NES as well. We would always break away the two blocks to the left and leave the one block up against the wall. Then face away from the wall and stand on the pipe as close to the edge of the pipe as you can get and backwards jump towards the one remaining block against the wall you didn't break. Eventually your head will get sucked into that block and then into and through the wall
If you do manage to do this trick (break two bricks but leave the one that touches the pipe), the resulting -1 level will be different depending on which version of the game you have (SMB1 cartridge or SMB1 on disk for the Famicom Disk System). The -1 World has been removed from Vs. Super Mario Bros. (sort of) since there are two bricks already pre-broken against the pipe to stop players from doing the wall-walk glitch to try to get to -1. It was also removed from All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. as the three pipes (before the right warp zone specifics are loaded) will redirect you to the goal area, just like with the regular reversed-L pipe you're standing on to try to squeeze through the wall; ditto for Super Mario All-Stars, as it will take you straight to Worlds 2, 3 or 4 even before the right warp zone specifics are loaded.
Blue Television Games, World - 1 never ends on NTSB-U and PAL ports of the game, however, in NTSB-J ports of the game, i.e., the Famicom version of this game, there is a whole Minus WORLD (well, MOST of one, anyway) where there are THREE levels that CAN be beaten. World - 1 in that version of the game is essentially World 1-3/5-3/*1-3/*5-3, but Underwater, and with weird, but few, enemy placements, and lots of Princess Peach Toadstools underwater. World - 2 is essentially World 2-3/7-3/*2-3/*7-3 in all but name...beat it like you normally do those other levels. World - 3 is World 4-4, but it is done with both an Underground motif, as well as with the Underground theme. This is also technically the first time where you fight Bloopers in the air...take them out as you do in SMB2J and ANNSMB. Speaking of All Night Nippon Super Mario Brothers, although it has a level arrangement that is similar to SMB, it also has Worlds A through D from SMB2J. I am not sure if World 9 from the previously mentioned game is in there, though. At any rate, I am also not sure if ANNSMB had the Minus World glitch in it or not.
@@BlueTelevisionGames Did you know if you go down the center pipe,it will take you to level 5? If you can manage to get to the last/ 3rd pipe over without "welcome to warp" screen come up,that will take you to -1 again too lol. Once the words come back up though,it triggers the normal warp pipes again.

My favorite glitch is when the subscribe button turns grey. Edit: Wow! Thanks for the heart, Darby :D
Hahaha! Awesome
Wow the audio got wierd when you started talking and I was like
“Oh no glitches”
Hah
Awesome Pax!

I've been trying to do minus world for 2 hours straight and never got it so I uh gave up
It’s really tough to do
I can tell :(
I'm on the switch so whenever I try to do it (dpad) it sometimes works and I crouch jump but others I normally jump backwards and break the block
@@BlueTelevisionGames I finally got it in like 6 tries this time
Finally a video with glitches I haven't seen before. Way to go guys!
3:08 why all that trouble? Why not just hope on the lift platform & jump right into the blocks?
Won’t work that way. Only way to get to -1 is through this glitch.

@@BlueTelevisionGames 2 years later 285k you can do it Darby!
During the water walk softlock it sounds like the selection screen music for Star Fox on the SNES
It's a remix! :D
I LOVE THE LITTLE PICTURES
Thanks! :)
YOU'RE WELCOME Darby (:
TWO TH-camRS? DGR AND LEVEL UP? MY FAV!
The dying victory glitch is one the the funniest old glitches I've seen.
😁
If you have only one life left if you try to do this, then the glitch will work as usual but you'll also get Game Over.
After you do the vine wrap in 4-2, head right to the next pipe and go down. Instead of going into the underground coin room, you end up at the warp zone as if you'd climbed the vine in the first place.
Thanks for the tip duskreqm
