That red really stands out. Great paint job! Metallic paints under candies and other transparent paints create great effects, as we see here.

The name Hi-Raker comes from the style of lifting the rear end of a vehicle, called a California Rake, due to the style basically originating in California. HotWheels didn't continue the Hi-Raker series due to the extra expenses of the extra pieces. I've heard that the tabs the keep the rake in place wear down and don't work anymore, although I haven't seen one that worn out, and I own quite a few, some in quite rough condition. Great job on the car, it looks great! It was interesting to see how the Hi-Rakers come apart.

I had that exact one! I loved that car. Your right the decal wasn’t the best in looks and durability even in the early 80’s it came off pretty easy.

I have 2 of those. One has the plastic tires the other had (lost the rubber tires) rubber tires so now it has the plastic rims. Lovely job on the paint. I have a feeling it looks a lot better in real life.

I have this same hi-raker Corvette in silver and i think it suits better than that yellow, but that kind of red is best colour for Corvette of this era😀

Hey Rob, regarding your caustic soda paint removal, instead of dumping the crystals in or using a funnel, you might try putting the crystals in before the water. I've had great success doing it that way. Nothing stuck to the sides, etc.

Always remember to take your time and use the tool properly. Finishing too soon isn't always a good thing.

That's a sweet custom on that Vette. And the hi-rake idea is a great idea. It's a shame they didn't continue it with most of the muscle cars. That stuff reminds me of a car that is always at shows around here. It's a 1987 Malibu station wagon, and the rear is listed like it's a dragster. Anyway, love your work Rob, and great job as usual mate

Nice one Rob , l,was really digging it when yiu first put the red top coat over the copper , it gave it a real,nice sunset orange colour , then yiu gave it a second coat and it's more of a reddish orange, still nice though on that C2 Corvette 👍

I had this car and another one; possibly a camaro or firebird? Had them as a young lad in the early 80s. If memory serves, the rake mechanism didn't last very long when used quite a bit. I remember mine not staying in a higher rake position after several months of steady use.
That might be why they weren't around for very long.......

The real car is quite rare too,being a split rear window C2.Lots of dollars can be exchanged for one of those.Nice resto too,like the colour and wheel choice.
