Stitch a butterfly applique for Week 26 of the Stitch Journal

- Today I'm showing you how to stitch a butterfly applique for the Stitch Journal. I've chosen an Orange Tip butterfly as this is the one I've seen the most this year.
I'm stitching it on a separate piece of fine cotton sheet and sewing it onto the page as an applique slip. This is a good idea if your base fabric is a looser weave and you would like to make a finer piece of embroidery.
You'll see how to draw a good butterfly shape too...it's all about geometry!
I have a ko-fi page is you feel you would like to help support my channel

I'm so happy you're enjoying it all Denise.
I know it's maybe a bit different from other stitch journals that I see people do. But I thought I'd try and bring in techniques as well as stitches and design too...
It's all a part of learning to sew as far as I think about it 🧵🪡☺️
@marionsworld24 you are magnificently unique in your approach. You are easy to follow, and your delivery is as if speaking to friends you care about. Thank you.

Thank You!
You're welcome Petra 🦋
Love everything about this wreath and butterfly!
🦋
The wreath and the butterfly turned out so beautifully! I love watching how you just keep layering and it just becomes more and more realistic as you go. I really love the wreath. I think I’m going to make one and just frame it with the hoop. I love how that looked. I definitely think I will try a bee or a butterfly now that I’ve watched how you created them. It was lovely to look back at the pages you’ve already completed and be reminded of the amazing things you’ve already made for the stitch book. Beautiful work as always, Marion! 😊
Thanks so much Camille 🦋
This turn out beautiful, I love to embroider and you teach us so much. Your butterflie is another golden piece. 😍
🦋☺️💐
So realistic and beautiful 🩷

👍🦋
What a pretty butterfly ❤ I’ve never seen that one lurking around our flowers. Thank you for the first six pages of this lovely journey.
I have a collection of cardamines and that is one of their host flowers...as well as garlic mustard or Jack by the Hedge.
This is a stunning page Marion. The wreath is beautiful. A printed version would make a great card for any occasion. Thank you for every stitch! ❤
💐🦋
What a wonderful butterfly! I have seen a lot of small blue butterflyes today. They are so sweet ! Maby that should be the one I will try to embroider. Hope the sun will shine on you for many days and all the birds sing for you! 🌞🦋🌿🐦❤

I’ve loved your wreath from the start and I new it was going to be beautiful, and of course is was. I really appreciated the tutorial on thread painting. I am keen to get into that when I have the time. The butterfly was gorgeous and I will try to follow your wonderful tutorial. I did make your Almond fingers and they went down well with everyone who had one. Thanks Marion for your recipe and time you take to show us your talents.
I'm happy you enjoyed them... They never last long here.... Mam used to make them a lot so they're quite nostalgic for my brother and sister... They both love them....☺️

🦋💐
This page would make anyone smile! Such a beautiful composition and color combinations. I need to decide if I will go with a butterfly or a lady bug on my page. There are not many pretty colored butterflies where I live. Thanks for another great tutorial Marion! Enjoy your beautiful weather.
I'll have to have a look... I'm sure you must have some beauties over there 🤔☺️🦋
Thank you so much for all the things you,ve showing us😘
🦋
Your wreath is beautiful and the butterfly is a lovely addition. I’ll look forward to the next floral page, the thrifting video……and anything else you share. Enjoy your warm weather. 💖💖💖
Thrifting coming soon ☺️👍
Thelma writes: Oh hello Marion, I love all kind of insects and love love your butterfly applique. It is just absolutely gorgeous. I am doing a continous needle & thread, scissor roll keeper at present and I am planning to embroider a small floral wreath on the last page. For that, I was thinking of a small insect like lady bird or something so, I might do a small butterfly like what you have shown. I love watching you embroider the butterfly, so calming and relaxing especially with birds chirping in the background. Love your variegated yellow/green thread, so gorgeous. Thank you Marion for sharing your talents to so many out there who have similar interest. Blessings to you Marion, take care. Thelma ❤
Thanks so much Thelma. It's only a tiny butterfly 🦋 but for me, he really finishes the design....
Hi Marion, once again your amazing hands have brought a little creature to life ..... exquisite 😍😍😍Its 8 50 am & 7 degrees, cold, wet & windy here at beautiful Mollymook Beach Australia,I might just stay in my jamas today & stitch 😉😉 I love your new haircut you've given yourself 🤗🤗🤗🤗 Beautiful wreath 😍😍😍😍😍😍 See you soon ( If only ) 😍😍😍😍😍
I'm going to look up Mollymook beach! What an amazing name ...☺️
I hope you enjoyed your pyjama day Pauline 🪡🧵
❤ TFS
Your book is looking fabulous Marion😊
🦋
Your idea for a butterfly brooch for a future video sounds exciting. The orange tip butterfly motif just perfects the whole wreath embroidery and you spoke about stitching it on with slip-stitch. I think the actual term for that kind of separate motif is a “slip”.❤
Yes.. it's a slip. It came to me when I was editing the video... It definitely worked well for me. I wouldn't have been able to get such a fine effect on the tablecloth linen...🦋
Gorgeous Marion.
Thank you 🦋
Everything you do is so true. You have definitely enlarge my world. Thank you again.
👍🦋
Marion, I love the butterfly. Your stitching journal book is absolutely stunning. I have learned so many new stitches watching you. Thank you.
🦋🪡🧵
I love how the wreath finished up. I am enjoying the larger pages of your stitch journal. Mine have always been smaller, but am considering following your larger design in my next volume.
I hoped the larger size would be easier to show people. It also gave me scope for some different types of designs ☺️🪡🧵
You are just so talented. Thank you so much for sharing your world, Marion !!!💙🧵🪡
I'm glad you liked it Sue 🦋
I love the butterfly and spending time with you is so relaxing. Thank you for sharing your beautiful talents. ❤
💐🦋
Beautiful! Go girl#💖👍😎
🦋☺️
Beautiful
Espero con ansias la siguiente pagina, mágica la mariposa!!
🦋
Hello Marion
Your wreath is lovely and the butterfly is beautiful. Thank you for sharing your process with us!
🦋 you're welcome Wendy...
Hi Marion, I love your butterfly! I’m definitely going to have a go at this. Like you, I have been very distracted by new projects and haven’t started my Japan project book yet!😬. We went to an event, Handmade Oxford in Waterperry and there was a woman selling her beautiful machine embroidered butterflies which were made into brooches, necklaces and earrings. My husband bought me a pretty tortoiseshell butterfly necklace. I asked the maker how she made them and she paints over the white machine stitching to get the tiny detail. So very different from yours but really effective. I thought I could make one using silk embroidery threads, as I have so many colours and now you have made them in crewel wools! 😵💫I don’t know which to try! Thank you for this idea and I look forward to the next one! 🦋🦋🦋
Hi Marion.....your little butterfly looks right at home about to land on a flower. I hope to stitch an Australian butterfly as there are many pretty butterflies here in Western Australia....although not in the city where I live. Thank you for all that you do. 🦋🦋🦋
You'll have some beauties down there I'm sure 🦋
Hi Marion, the butterfly came out so sweet! Your technique gives him such personality! Truly enjoy your videos! Enjoy the weather!
It's been gorgeous... But unfortunately back to 16° yesterday 😏
Marion your hair is so cute, you look so good 🪡🧵♥️
☺️💐
You can tell you know your nature.xx🐝🐝
Thank you ☺️🦋
Love the butterfly and this page so much
🦋💐
Lovely! 💜
🦋
Beautiful ❤
🦋
Lovely!
🦋
Me too! 💓😊
I'm a bit behind - I need to go back and do the tulips which I hope to do this weekend away. I've been doing the wreath and my husband thinks it looks like a proper bit of embroidery. I can't believe I've done it as it is a very different way of stitching for me. Thank you for all I've learnt from you thus far.
I'm so pleased you've been enjoying the process of a new style to what you usually do. There's so many different things all termed 'embroidery' . I like to try it all even if one style appeals to me more than another. It all helps with practice 🪡🧵👍
@@marionsworld24 Absolutely. And I'm sure as my skill and confidence increases all I am learning will bleed into all the sewing I do. So excited to be doing this.
Thank you 🦋
☺️🦋🧵🪡
Oh Marion, I just love your videos! You are so good at explaining everything, so patient! You give great tips as well.
I am having a hard time finding a tablecloth I could cut up to create a book, but I found some kitchen towels that a friend recommended so I don't think I might get 6 pages out of each. Unless I make them much smaller than yours. The pack has 5 towels so I can keep adding. The fabric almost looks like linen and is quote nice so just got them and I guess my next step is to figure out measurement for size and divide it into a certain number er of pages. Later find something to start the first page. Perhaps I can do as you did - 4 smaller squared- which makes it a beautiful cover page.
Looks like your pages are about a 12x12 size (inches) they don't look that small!
Thank you so much for all your explanations, new stitches and all the information you share! God bless 🙌
Kitchen towels sound just perfect Elaine ☺️👍
My pages are 10" x 8" not including the seam allowance. You can cut separate pages and stitch them individually. That would be fine. I just kept my first 6 together because they fit across the tablecloth that I already had.
Good luck with it..🪡🧵💐
@marionsworld24 thanks for giving me page sizes they seemed bigger but that's great. I'll do my best to keep them together as you did.
❤
❤❤❤
🦋
Such beautiful work. I’m thinking of getting a magnifying light is there one you would recommend?
Just beautiful but way out of my league, have tried to emborder and get so frustrated with it, i put it away for another day lol. Huge hugs Marion xx
Oh dear... Maybe try one in a larger size to get used to it? Having said that we don't always have to be doing everything... even if we think we want to 😅🪡🧵
❤️❤️❤️
