    PSA has a grade guarantee that if you buy a PSA 10 and you look over the card and think they made a mistake, you can send it to them and they will look it over. If they believe you are correct, they will either pay you the market value of the card at the current grade, or they will regrade the card and give you the difference in what the new grade is vs. what it was originally graded at.

    • @jdsun1

    I respect your honesty about PSA needing to be tougher on some of the grades. In the last year I've probably seen 1000 slabbed 10's that look like 8's listed on ebay/YT vids. It makes my stomach turn when I see people bidding crazy for a card that clearly doesn't resemble the grade. Sucks that you lost some money on the regrades, but at least you will feel better about reselling it to someone at its legitimate grade than ripping someone off with a grade the card shouldn't of got in the first place.

    • @DanielCordone9
      @DanielCordone9 ปีที่แล้ว

      A saw a PSA 10 slab on PWCC last week that looked like a 7 or 8. It sold for over $300 when realistically it should be worth $5. I have about 30 of them ungraded in better condition. No point in grading them though as they'll all get 9's which are worthless.

  • @JG50
    @JG50 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is an excellent video! Definitely a great strategy and seemed to work. You gain 3 times the value roughly from PSA 9 to PSA 10. But question for you: i was going to grade a few cards that i want to sell. How strict do you think psa is with declared value? Seems like you sent in for $15 grading but one was obviously over $500 value. Thanks you and glad you enjoyed! Great question. Personally I’ve seen they’ve really let up on upcharges. I think it would have to be a significantly obvious & heavily transacted card for them to upcharge at this point. They are less likely to upcharge stuff that doesn’t sell often. For instance a Lebron topps chrome rookie will be upcharged but a random rare parallel of high value might not.

    I have to ask a question as an older collector who doesn’t buy much ultra modern. A lot of those cards you sold were not rookies. Do people buy alot of non-rookie ultra modern cards? I’m interested to see what the demand for those cards will be 10-15 years from now as my #1 rule since the 80’s was only collect rookie cards (unless it’s a GOAT like Jordan or those Brady cards you have). Maybe I’m just out of touch with ultra modern. Lol

      Hey Chris! Glad you enjoyed and great to have you here!
      I’ve had a lot of luck selling non-rookie cards and also personally enjoy collecting them. Seems like currently there is quite a bit of demand assuming they are low print/serial numbered. You have a great question here, and I am definitely not certain! The one thing I thought of when reading this is that I know demand is still high on 90’s (non-rookie) inserts for key players. Barry Sanders, Kobe Bryant, Shaq etc come to mind. Will that stay consistent? Your guess is as good as mine! 😀

    • @ChrisJohnson-hk6es
      @ChrisJohnson-hk6es ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the newer collectors seem to be aiming for the first rookie cards now. But, I'm an old collector like you, and if I can snag a card especially an auto that's a few years later.... I'm all over it! Mike Trout for example. I wanted his auto, and I waited till I got a good deal, for a newer card/auto.
      I'm also learning that buying boxes of cards for $300 is painful most of the time. I mean, to get a good hit anymore, you gotta buy a case these days. I was spending a ton of money on these boxes and kept walking away losing my tail. Now? I just save up and spend $300-$400 on a card that's worth it. I mean, spend $300 for a box of cards and only get $50 in true value. It's like playing scratch tickets!

    I fight everyday in this hobby for PSA and other graders to just offer sub-grades or grader notes to it’s customers smart enough to utilize the service. With 1000000 cards being graded a month, it’s going to be good in the future to be able to differentiate between all the 9 & 10’s soon to flood the market. All graders have to come up with some system to have an overall grade and those figures aren’t kept in their head. They have to specify these sub-grades to get a final overall grade. Not to mention it’s impossible to get a perfect 10 if the company doesn’t have to share subs. Everything’s just a gem mint 10. Just my advice for a better hobby future.

      @@wlewis19760 No worries! when I was cracking them actually! I mentioned always save the labels because you can send them back with your next order to have them remove the card from the pop report.

    I thought PSA kept logs of the numbered cards they grade? Like if they see the Brady Camo # 9/10 come through again, they just look it up and see they had previously graded it as an 8.

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  ปีที่แล้ว

      That was always my concern as well, and I had heard that from others. It appears that is not the case!

    For numbered cards, you'd think PSA would use the 'number' as a unique identifier since there'd only be one with that number (e.g. 9/10). Congrats, thanks for sharing.

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what I always though too. But then again it makes sense you have to "re-grade" every time because what if someone snaps it and damages the card? Thanks for tuning in!

      @buffalobill9793 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not entirely true. Panini has at least double printed some numbered cards in some sets as there have been a few cases where two cards have shown up with the exact same number.(eg. 9/10 & 9/10)

    • @richardbianco9674
      @richardbianco9674 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@buffalobill9793 those were printing mistakes on the handful of stories I've seen. Cards that were due to be destroyed getting accidentally released and the one was all of them had that same number on them but the amount produced was still correct

    • @richardbianco9674
      @richardbianco9674 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're still better off cross grading from csg/bgs/ cgs to psa or vice versa. No 9.5 grade from psa and 8.5 not being used on modern makes the going that route easier than straight regarding. But you do highlight the biggest problem in grading overall is people buying the grade not the card. How many times you see a psa 10 that looks like crap yet it'll still sell at psa 10 prices. That's an issue that unless the buyers correct, won't get fixed.

    I've watched a lot of your videos, you grade a ton of cards....there's no way you missed dents like that on the back of the '08 Brady green refractor, and there's no way PSA originally graded it a 9 if it had that dent. They damaged it in encapsulation, or sometime after grading. I'd agree that 8 is a fair grade....now, but originally it didn't get graded a 9 with that dent. Sorry, but I'd say that's why it went down a grade.

      I wish that was the case but unfortunately, I'm quite certain that I missed it myself. Back dents tend to be my kryptonite lol!

    seems like these should have been submitted at a higher fee than $15...if the cards you are showing are already worth $300 to $500, that is over the $199 limit...sure you can do it and if they upcharge you they upcharge you, but I think with higher dollar cards, submitting a the proper rate could get you "better" grades...my 2 cents

    Shouldn’t you be able to send same card in multiple times and get same grade? That doesn’t seem like a professional service. Why don’t people stop all the bs grading and just go raw ?
