I SENT PSA CARDS FROM BGS & CSG WITH INSANE RESULTS!

  • Today I share a 25-card PSA grading reveal that includes 4 cards I re-graded that appeared to be undergraded originally. This includes 2 from BGS (9 & 9.5), 1 from CSG (9), and 1 from PSA (8). Let's just say, make sure you stick around for the whole order. These cards are INSANE!
    I learned a lot by trying this out, and I hope you do as well. Learn from my experience before attempting it yourself :)!

    I do the same thing with the worse condition cards when I send my orders in. It works especially well when you have multiples or when I send a bunch in from the same set. I'll put a borderline card first or right before a card I really want a 10 on. It seems to work pretty well

    Great Video man. Looks like your Grader was having a good day. I'm almost convinced that you could submit a card three times and get three different grades at PSA. I have re-submitted 5-10 cards recently and over half of them got a different grade.

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems to be that way. My takeaway is that I’d much rather be grading/sending these cards in myself so I can have a solid idea of condition regardless of what they give it. Vs buying/paying a huge premium for a PSA 10

    • @gradedcards5516
      @gradedcards5516 ปีที่แล้ว

      and you don't think you could do that with other grading companies when it comes to cards that are on the fence as far as what grade they should get?

    Congrats, I had over 300 modern cards graded by CSG with the old green labels and it basically bankrupted me lol. They gave 8.5’s out like candy on all modern cards because of “surface issues” and really screwed a lot of people over with such harsh grades. I’ve sent in a CSG 7 green label and gotten a PSA 10 on a silver Prizm Maxey card.

    • @DanielCordone9

    The baiting works for sure, I have done it with Pokemon cards, I send damaged high end cards and usually put the worst cards first. I have got a couple 1.5s which are super rare because cards were slightly better than the beat to hell card that was just before it.

    Sell it. Keep your 9’s⬇️ and sell 10’s if you have a buyer. The valuation of a 10 compared to 9 is way too great to not liquidate, while there is still a steady market for graded 10 cards.

    • @carlsoncards

    I submitted to FCG for the first time because I was curious about their grading process. I submitted a Colorblast, Prizm silver and Prizm silver variation of T-Law. I knew the silvers both had some surface issues. When I received my grades and sub grades they provided a full breakdown (blueprint) of how the cards where graded specific to each card. Very transparent. I’m not a fan of cards that don’t have sub grades because it’s very subjective.

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s interesting, first I’ve really heard about that process (I don’t watch too much content actually so I probably just missed the boat). Sounds like that could be really nice for PC Cards that you really want a strong gauge of condition on.

    I think it’s a bit of an open secret that the lower tier service you take the lower your grade will be. I submitted a load of Wixoss cards to PSA on lowest tier and most cards came back 8 to 10 but one was a 7 and I was blown away. I looked at it under a loupe and couldn’t see any corner damage, surfaces looked good, only very slight centring I noticed. I cracked it open and sent it back using $150 express service and it came back a 9!

    You should watch some of those horror story videos on what banks have done to items in a safety deposit box. It is obviously a risk leaving anything valuable anywhere but losing some priceless item or them damaging it over bank incompetence would drive me crazy.
    I see the flip side to leaving it at your home is super risky also for multiple reasons. I also assume that a bank losing or hurting someone's items is probably under 2% of people who use them.

    Nice to get upgrades. Funny that it’s still the same cards, but going from one company to another or even a different grader within the same company, produces different results. Just way too much inconsistency and subjectivity.

    8:20 zestiest reaction ngl hahaha but congrats on that.....personally I think PSA 10's just aren't worth anything for the reason that lower grades from other companies can hit it, but glad you got value out of it, 9:20 I'd just resell something like that and buy more cards I liked but weren't worth as much just like you said you'd probably do.

    Hadn't heard of the bad card - good card trick, thanks for the info. Jmac Sportscards had a video about not using CSG cause you don't get nearly the same money as a PSA slab. Have you done crossovers with TAG, FCG or HGA slabs?

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  ปีที่แล้ว

      Any time! Like I mentioned, not 100% certain if it works or not, but it seems to work really well for those borderline type cards. I do think CSG grades extremely strong, so they can be good for cracking out like I did here. Did not yet try TAG/FCG but I have done an HGA 9.5 in the past and it successfully went to PSA 10.

  • @mackymintle7806

    This video should wake people up to how “grading” is a coin flip, and not really a thing that makes sense for 95% of collectors.
    It’s another mass delusion, that will fade.

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I am learning more and more every time! My big takeaway is I need to be grading these big cards myself. I don't really see any reason to pay a huge premium at this point for PSA 10's unless I got to see the card prior so I can ensure I really do feel it was deserving a 10.

    Just out of curiosity on cards that you crack from BGS with surface issues, do you clean the surface really well before attempting to send the card back in to PSA? I have an awesome Jamal Murray RC die-cut on card auto /35 that got a 7.5 on surface so I’m thinking of cracking it, cleaning the surface and resubmitting to PSA

      I typically use a medium flat rate box from USPS if it is a larger order. Then I wrap stacks of 40ish cards in a rubber band and then wrap in bubble wrap. Then I stuff the excess space in the box with filler material (bubble wrap, newspaper, etc). Hope that helps!

    Ive sent a lot of csg cards to psa with poor results .2 Kevin Durant Rcs csg 9s got psa 8 and 7. 2 michael jordan metal universe A csg 9.5 got psa 8 and a csg 9 got a psa 8. a clayton kershaw topps rc csg 9.5 got a psa 9. Csg green labels didnt grade every card tough, only the ones that desrved tens. a csg 9 could be a psa 7,8,9,10. But a PSA 10 would never be a csg 8. The only way to move up a grade is through centering, psa doesnt mind a little off centered, where as a garbage grader llike GMA focuses way to much on centering. you can turn gma 9s into psa 10s. psa will give a current year pack fresh card thats centered 60/40 a 10 50% of the time. everyother grading company will say this card isnt centered its a 9 at best

I've hit cards that were worth $1500 and then got upcharged $50, but then have hit cards worth $6000 and didn't get an upcharge. Do you submit at the lowest tier possible and just hope they up charge you after grading? I haven't quite figured that part out. Not sure if I submit at the higher tier to let them know I expect a higher grade or submit at the lower level and potential of saving money if it doesn't hit

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unless you have like a 1986 Fleer Jordan, At this point I’d always submit at the lowest tier. I really don’t see any drawbacks to it. Worst case you get 1 or 2 upcharges. I forgot to mention in the video, but this one had zero upcharges. I’ve sent probably close to 2000 cards at this point at the lowest tier (over the past 10-12 months) and have been upcharges approximately 10 or 11 times total. They just charge you the higher service level fee for that particular card. I.e. $30 or $50 depending on value.

    The grading seems so arbitrary so often.

    • @carlsoncards
      @carlsoncards  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think part of it is the card HAS to be regraded irregardless. I.e. what if a 9 got snapped and got damaged during the process and the psa auto gave it a 9, wouldn’t make much sense. That’s just my thought on it! But yes, agree on the arbitrary-ness. I heavily prefer to buy raw or low graded vs paying a premium for a PSA 10. If you aren’t getting 9/10s from PSA then it’s a skill issue. PSA has the lowest standards in the business and that’s why everyone uses them. “But they have the highest resale!!!” Yes, because sellers pass all of the cost/fees for dealing with PSA to you the buyer, that’s your “premium” everyone keeps shouting about. And now that all of these flippers, resellers, scammers etc. are heavily invested in this dog-poo company that is PSA they will put down any competition to protect that investment. “But PSA grades harder now!!!” BS, they just started actually grading now instead of throwing a dart at a board with a 9/10 on it in the morning.
