Used to make about $4000 a month, (quit due to health issues and wanting to finish my degree) and I had “friends” and family always bugging me to pay for dinner or help them with rent. Had one friend who was always uncomfortable with me spending money on him and when he was in a tight spot and was refusing help I bailed him out. He recently got a great job and has now been returning the favor, always referring to the time I helped him when I protest. That’s a true friend

My best friend died when she was 17. On my birthday her single mother decided to give me the money that was in my best friends bank account. It was about 1000 dollars. It was gone in a week because my parents forced me to take it out of the bank so they could pay their bills. They told me they would give it back and I wouldn't notice it was gone. It's been 3 years.
you should really try and guilt trip your parent about that idk if you can bc that sounds like typical narcissistic behavior . that fact that they used your dead friends money to pay off their bills forcing you to take out the money is just awful.

There is some YT videos about Narcissistic behavior's that you may want to see to save your entire life.
I am very sorry to say that the money that you gave to your parents are gone and they will NEVER pay you back from it. My suggestion (again) is to save up a decent amount of cash ($2,000+ if you live in the USA), grab all your important documents (Social Security/Birth certificate/Diploma), take as much stuff as you can and move the fuck out, and *DO NOT* hold contact with them after you move out OR tell that that you are moving. Straight up just leave. Your parents are a huge waste of a fucking life and there is a special place in hell for them.

Never tell people you won a huge amount of money and if you *do* lend anybody some cash, make them sign a promissory note. If they sign it and refuse to pay you back, you can file a civil lawsuit against them and pursue their assets.

I landed a job to where I can live comfortably and even retire in 20 years if I keep it (I'm 25). I bought my mom a home since it was something she always wanted to own one. Ever since her siblings found out that I was making bank they have been pestering me with false kindness and giving sob stories. I refuse to even acknowledge them cuz I have not forgotten how they robbed my mother of over 75k and in consequence left my family (brother, sister and my mother) struggling for a good amount of time. Now they are living in poverty and I hope they never escape it for putting my mother through that.

I had a client that won a ten million dollar lottery. At the time I was installing a custom device in their home. They were out doing errands while I was there working with my crew. When they came home, (three days after their names were published in the newspaper) they had three huge shopping bags of mail. Each piece was someone asking for money and pretty much making up reasons that my clients should give it to them. What was even more disappointing was that my two workers were pissed off that they didn't get a huge tip for doing their job. They felt that they deserved a tip, especially a large one because my clients won so much money. We started the job before the lottery win btw.

For me, I'd use the money to pay off my school loans and debts first, then if some is left, maybe give a little to my parents,( cause I never want to deal with them ever again), and if there is still some left , i'd split it between savings and charity. I don't need expensive knick-knacks to be happy.

A buddy of mine started acting strangely. He quit talking to a lot of folk. I went by his house to check on him. He looked at me very suspiciously, but he let me in. I ordered lunch and we sat and chatted. Apparently he had gotten this really big inheritance and a lot of people were hounding him. He had to cut a lot of people out, but we still enjoy each others company (although gift giving was stopped due to the absurdity of it all, so we just get food).
When ever my father borrowed money from me, he always payed back the double amount. No matter how much it was.

Finally one that I can answer, about two years ago my dad and won $300,000 off the local Lottery. It was generous amount for us, my dad was able to payoff the house, pay for some of my brothers student loans, pay for my tech school and get new vehicles. We only had one person ask for money. It was my oldest brother's ex-girlfriend from about 10 years ago. She randomly message my dad over Facebook asking for $500 to pay for rent saying that she was just in between paychecks, you know the classic story. He just blocked her. Other then that no one has ever genuinely asked for money.

I actually have a story from when I was really little so of course the money isn’t that much to an adult but to a kid it was a lot. Basically for my birthday my grandma got me $100 and I told my best friend, who at first didn’t believe me. However one time when she was at my house she saw my money jar and in it was the $100 bill so of course she didn’t leave my house until I gave her some of my money. I ended up giving her 5 cents and she left. Sometimes kids can be pretty dumb

Here is how the relationship with my parents go when borrowing is involving money
I borrow money, they never ask for it and if I try to return it they don't accept it unless they are in a tough spot.
They borrow money, they always return it even when I tell them not to.
The borrower is slave to the lender, is why your parents always want to pay you back even after you say no. You have good parents
Thats your parents maintaing a degree of control, it's passive but they make sure you are allways in debt to them even though its not inforced, it's a way of stopping you from ever saying "but you ow me money..." which would interput the power balance between parent and child. When I lived at home all was good until I started earning more than my dad, he didn't like i was the big earner in house, it took away that element of power from him. I moved out not long after

My parents won the lottery and it was a lot of money. I was pretty young when it happened (7 or 8). Where we lived it was a pretty poor place like most people here are in poverty. So when people found out my parents won people started to walk(or sometimes run) up to us when we shopped, call and text us, show up at our house or at my dads work. So it was pretty scary for my mom to take us anywhere. I still remember random people asking for money saying they were my parents old bestfriends or that they were long lost family members, or that my parent owed them for something. It was scary for me but my family and I are doing well now.

I had three friends. I had a good job and got paid very well.All three of them were engaged, and because I considered them good friends, I used to help them out a lot with money even paid for their dates. I didn't lend them any money just gave it away.
And after a while things god worst for me and I even became unemployed for almost a year. I sent each of them a message that if they could lend me some money. The two of them blocked me, and the third one just said that he doesn't have any money which was a lie obviously.
I never spoke to any of them again.
Now I'm doing okay and have a good normal life. All is behind me.

In the mid 90s my dad won about 30 grand from a casino. Not anything like a lottery but people still came out of the woodworks asking him for something. I will never forget it.
It wasn't me who won the lottery, but a veteran in my country did. He was living with his wife in a normal house and I would say he was alone the whole time, no grandchild, no son or daughter, no relative. But when he won the lottery, BAM !!! a lot of people came to his house and claim to be his "relative". I don't know much about him but I am certain that half of these people are strangers. There was time his home was locked to prevent people from banging inside. Yes, a lot of strange came and claim to be his "relative" AFTER he won the lottery, but not BEFORE. To be honest this is the first time I'm so ashamed of the people in my place. This story was broadcasted on TV and on the first page of the newspapers for a long time. That poor old man had to used 2/3 the money he won.
When i was still in school i had a friend who got 1000$ and we went to a market and i joke about being hungry. I then went to the toilet and the i came back he had bought me food and i just said "But i did not ask for you to buy me anything"

I once had to lend my dad some money, he had a good job but at Christmas he got paid 2 weeks early but had to wait 6 weeks for his next pay check, he knew I was saving and had a bit in the bank, asked me to lend him what was essentially half of what I had but he stuck to his word and paid me back every single penny and when I needed it for a car (which is what I was saving for originally) he paid the last third back in one go

I got hit while I was riding a bike home from work when I was 16. Went to court and got almost 8k after bills and everything was taken care of. My dad was a single father and I didn't really care about what I saw as free money at the time so cut a check to him for 4k as thanks for doing the best he could while raising me and my siblings. I told him to never repay that money or think about it as thats a gift from me.

I want to know the aftermath. Like did the rest of the family cut ties with the aunt because she was so greedy? I would, imo lottery tickets are a horrible gift unless it's like a stocking stuffer. You know whoever gave it to you hopes you don't win because really who wants to give away a winning ticket. So basically they're just hoping they gave you garbage.
I had a relative who was very ill and needed help paying for medical bills and food. Their aunt won the lottery but she completely cut them out of her life after winning because he asked for some help.
Woooow like seriously these people. And that one guy living with his gf and what 4 others. Gf just offers for her bf to pay it. And them having a intervention type meeting thought that since they put it to a vote and had more votes he will pay more. They were already taking advantage even stealing money for the apartment funds which only he put money in. And apparently breaking his laptop would somehow work in their favor or a Thats what you get for going agaisnt paying everything. Well now their piggy bank had enough and left so they're now all fully responsible for the rent and needs like food, toliet paper etc.

For example, I once was roommates with my sister and she thought she should pay less of the rent then me because I didn't have any kids and therefore I had less bills to pay and since I didn't have as many bills as her it'd be fair if I pay more rent then her. People thinking "you have more money therefore you should pay more rent" is totally a mindset that exists outside of jokes.

I was looking for this comment! I stopped the video to read it because I thought I missed something. Even her implying that she needed help when the guy was drunk didn’t make sense why the other person said “I’m sorry you guys don’t talk” or whatever I was so confused.
I befriended a good man a year ago and he told me he had won the lottery years ago. Apparently, he grew up in the hood, so everyone knew each other and your business and people would always ask for help when they noticed you were doing well enough for yourself. He also told me you couldn’t go anywhere in his area without someone seeing you.
Because of this, as soon as he found out he had won, he immediately went to his State’s Capital, claimed his money and skipped town. I remember him telling me he drove 3 hours to the next major city, scratched out his VIN and took his license plates before ditching his car, then getting a taxi to take him to the airport.
Once he got to where he wanted to go, he blocked all of his contacts and stayed at a hotel for a few nights so he could come up with a solid game plan on what to do with his money. He ended up getting the usual house and car but he also legally changed his name and put his money in a high-yield investment account.
The dude doesn’t look rich, he doesn’t throw any parties or tells people how he earned his money. He doesn’t even bring up how much money he has. From the looks of him you would never even guess he was well-off. Only less than a handful of people, myself included, actually know him and would never reveal who he is

Like some dude straight up asked me for 3000 bucks so he can buy a new gaming PC, I didn’t know that dude, he was definitely not from my school cause I was at a private girls’, all I did was buy him and other 20 ppl food after a party once. he just came up to me and asked.
He wasn’t even joking. Said he’d be my boyfriend and expected me to spend more on him. asked me for hype beast stuff too.
He said something like ‘if you’re so rich, it wouldn’t be hard to buy me this right? It would be like nothing.’
Honestly I was disgusted, how can someone just welcomes themselves into other people’s pocket?
A bud of mine nearly died on the operating table. Took her months to recovery. She decided to sue the surgeon. I made sure to be there for support. Much to her relief her attorney was able to prove incompetence & that there was a pattern of the MD making mistakes. To protect the Doctor & the hospital from a wave of Lawsuits both insurance companies offered her a huge but sealed settlement. She could not tell anyone about the settlement nor the amount of the payout. She agreed if the MD lost his surgical privileges.
She called me & told me, in a very general way, about what had happened. I congratulated her & then said to her to tell those who asked about the pay out that there had been a tiny settlement. 33% to the attorney fees and the rest to pay off debts & medical bills. I then suggested ways to her about ways to invest her settlement.
I warned if even a hint of the settlement came out people would swarm in for loans & “investment opportunities”.
She followed my suggestions. She later told me how shocked she was at all the cousins & fake friends who surged in looking for money. When she put on the sad face they quickly pulled away

I had a lot of money stolen out of my wallet from my dad's wife when I was a minor. About a quarter of all the money I saved up in two years on Christmas day and later asked me why I had so much money and didn't buy Christmas presents. I brought it up multiple times with my father and he seemed to think a combination of she must be innocent and that I owed it to them anyway. When I got my first job I gave my money to my mother so my dad couldn't just take 1000 dollars out of my bank account whenever he felt like I owed him. Other people had better parents, but parents who are scumbags aren't much better to their children. If my mother asked, I'd give her money because she's always trustworthy. If my father was dying of cancer I wouldn't even pay for an uber to a hospital. Family is in the way you treat people not what you demand from them.

At school, whenever I had any money on me, people would always ask me to buy them things or lend them money. When I said no, they would say something like "I would lend you money if I had it" to try and get me to give them money. When they did actually have money, they would never buy me anything.

I used to sell cakes at school, it had like packets of 10 so I sold them 50p each. I managed to save up like £30 (which was alot for a 14 year old) told a friend that I trusted about the money but kept it hidden in a secret pocket in my jacket. I came back from P.E and someone stole my whole jacket when they couldn't find it. I know he didn't steal it, but either he told someone about it, or someone over heard smh. That was the last time I told someone my money.
This was something I learned, sadly, early on in life, and now that I'm 51 and making decent money, I'm proud to say that no one knows what I make other than my wife and my brother (who is my business partner, and who has the same way of dealing with it, he tells no one). Note: it's not that much, it's just enough that some would impose if they knew.
I voluntarily help out and if someone has the nerve to ask me what my "capabilities to help" are after, I lie and say "that was everything I had" and I utterly distance myself from them. Due to mostly picking the right people to voluntarily help out, the rude follow ups have only happened like twice.

Any questions from people asking for money, simply say you'll have to ask my accountant. Of course the accountant will say no, but it removes any peer pressure or guilt from your end.
I'm a CPA, I hear these stories every day from "long lost friends" and barely connecting family members. Once I ask a few warm up questions and proceed to nitty-gritty, they fold like lawn chairs to their real intentions. Makes saying requests aren't financially viable much easier. My office is so full of sodium you can taste it, unfortunately. People really show their colors when greed rears its ugly head.
When my grandpa passed away, I inherited quite a sum of money, and I was able to get some new stuff, and I treated them for dinner. I kinda feel proud that my friends aren't the types to ask for money shamelessly, and we're quite normal with each other.

My uncle got a 2$ ticket from my grandma for Christmas and he won 5000$ the Biggest difference is that nobody ask him for money and we were all excited for him and he give 1000$ to my Grandma who didnt ask for anything. I know a very bad pastor that always borrows money and doesn't pay back, one time he borrowed money from his son like 2,000 $ and he swears he was going to pay it back with the tax returns, well they came and he didn't want to pay, well his mom gave him the 2,000 $ back and the pastor was angry and talking terrible about his son to the people of church, I said , if you didn't want to give him that money why promise and swear to him you were going to pay him back with the tax returns? Yeah I was there too i remember.

I never loan someone money. If I feel compassionate or generous enough to give money or buy something, I automatically assume I will never be repaid
When my wife passed away in 2019 she had a sizable life insurance policy. Her siblings came out of the woodwork demanding I give them the monies as she was their sister. They even had the nerve to demand I give them her ashes, and wedding and engagement ring. I told them all to shove off, and never contact me ever again. Bunch of damn vultures.

Once my dad had won 5000 dollars in his last poker game (he quit poker) and there were some people following him and mind you it was night so my mom and he ran to the car and got out of there really fast so the people couldn’t track them down and this happened in Nigeria and there are many thieves at night
My mum is really good with money, but very controlling, so ever since I got my first job she's been doing things like taking me for haircuts, making sure I got the haircut she wants, and abandoning me in the shop when it was time to pay; taking me to get the school clothes she wanted me to wear, standing with me in the queue to pay and being no where in sight when it was our turn; and my personal favorite that she still does to this day (in my 30s with my own home), buying me expensive gadgets and clothes I refuse to buy for myself and harassing me until I pay her back.

I started distancing myself from some of my "friends" because they always asked for money, and stayed with a hand full of friends like 4 and honestly it felt better having little friends
If I ever come into a big amount of money the only person I will ever tell is my cousin because he has been there for me all my life and I've been there for him he's the most caring person I've ever known and would never take money me under any circumstances I'll on occasion buy him something nice because I know he deserves it with the stuff he puts up with on a daily basis
I would probably tell my best friend of 12 and going(we are 16), I know I could trust him we always are making random bets maybe of $10 or something and always pay up. I'd also probably tell my parents as they always repay me if I use my money to help them. I trust my dad a bit more though since he makes the big $$$ and know how to use it smart and when I would help him and his buddies with some work stuff like carrying wires (their like 50 pounds and have lots of them so its no really a breez) once finished I would get paid like $100 or with other items.

It's always great to hear stories of humbled people, when lottery winnings or higher salaries don't change their character. Instead it's family and peers who get all googly eyed and greedy.
My Dad was trying to pay off old taxes and he was running out of options and time. I was working two jobs seven days a week for a year, I deposited my checks as soon as I got them. I spent very little since I intended to buy a used car and pay for college on my own steam. He came to me after I finished breakfast and told me about his situation. I readily agreed to help him because I loved my dad and trusted above all others ; my stepmother wasn't happy about owing her stepson for basically saving their asses. However, I never lorded it over them. My Dad kept his word and paid me back in no time. But it still makes my stepmom squirm knowing I had leverage over her for a time. Because I am a saver, people just assumed I would be a easy mark. As soon as I pointed out: " You've been out of work for three months, there's no way you can pay it back " or something else, they got pissed I haven't loan to any person since my dad and I know who my friends are. If someone asks me, I ghost immediately.

@@jesussalinas3074 The property was "bought" by my dad in the late 80's. But there wasn't any legal documents, just a large sum of money given to my grandfather. So my grandfather said it was legally his. Fortunately after some time he passed it down to my brother saying it was out of love. That's pretty much it, my aunts didn't get it and they were pretty cut about it. They didn't invite us to our the family traditional chinese new year party.

my grandma won 2 million back in 1993 and people would send sob story letters in hopes of getting some money. When you win something that big you are specifically told not to read them. Obviously that's your choice if you do and she did for a while but had to stop reading them as she was getting upset. Please don't ever send sob letters to lottery winners, you'd be lucky if they read them at all and it really upsets them. They get so many sent through their door that your letter is nothing but another upsetting story to them and they will not send you money.
My ex gf opened a restaurant at the start of the year and she was forced to close it down in march due to covid. The quarantine got me at my mother's place in another city and I was forced to stay there for 4 months until I was able to come back with my ex at our apartment. During quarantine time she always told me that she didn't had money for this and that so I obviously kept sending her some for those 4 months (almost $2K), and when I got back I kept paying for some stuff and took her out for dinner many times.
After 1 month I found out she cheated on me with 2 guys before I got back and she told me that the best for us was for me to move out and stop having contact with each other for a while.

I’d be fine to give my mom money, just not a lot, and never any money for my sister because she always gets bitchy over small things, like if I ate something, she’d start yelling so I have to yell louder to shut her up and trust me, I don’t like raising my voice or being too violent unless I’m very angry, and it’s very hard to piss me off.
When you win the lottery your name get publicized and you have a picture taken of you holding a giant check so be careful. Something I read once that was good advice was to hire a lawyer right away, and you can have them legally accept it on your behalf to minimize your publicity.

4:00 Me, my sister, and her boyfriend got into a car accident where a friend was driving and someone t-boned the car. We didnt have insurance but the person's insurance gave each of us $800 dollars. We all live with my mom because I was a minor, and my sister and her boyfriend had been asked to move back because my sister was pregnant. We all pay bills and gove her extra money every month yet when we got our checks she took all of them, none of us got to see a penny of our compensation. The day we got thr checks she got the money. Or else she would have kicked them out and shamed me to the entire family tree.
I won the lottery back in 2020 and the only person I told was my wife. We paid off our second house and bought some property back in my home country and I’m happily retired at 42 😎
When you have money the best thing to say is you have enough to live nicely or happily for one family or person. Depending on how many people you live with whether it’s a family or trustworthy friends. And a good way to make sure nobody asks you for money? Ask them if they ask for money say you were just planning on asking them or if they ask you routinely ask them or just ask a group of people. Might be embarrassing but it’ll be worse when someone asks you for money and they insist you have it even when you say no and keep bothering you.

The van story is very close to my own. Just after the stimulus checks showed up my mom said she was in need of money and needed to sell the second truck in her driveway. She claimed it ran good and was just a little rusty due to age. It’s an old 90s Ford Ranger. I called my dad and asked him about it and he said whilst he and my brother in law had done some work on it it was in need of an emergency break and due to it being a manual transmission the wheels needed to be chocked in order for it to stay stationary. My mom didn’t tell me this.

There is a women in eastern Canada that won chase the ace card game at her local legion.She wrote her nephews name on the ticket too.Two big checks were given out one for her & one for her nephew.She flipped & said she only wrote his name on the ticket but not to share it if she won the big prize.She turned into a complete witch & said she was going to get a lawyer.Good luck with that.
This story is about my mom. The setting is in Sudan during one of its many civil wars. My mother’s father died when she and her siblings were very young. Her father’s side of the family took everything he owned and left their family with nothing. After my mother and her siblings grew up and gotten jobs their father's side of the family started talking to them and asking for money saying they were family. My mom said they and their kids would harass them with calls about money and act like they were doing nothing wrong. They cut ties with that side of the family and haven’t spoken to any of them since.
