2016 Hyundai Elantra vs 2015 Subaru Impreza

  • For well over a decade now, Hyundai has made incredible strides to bring the Korean car maker from a value alterative to a full-fledge big-time player. Speaking of Hyundai in the same sentence as Toyota, Honda and Ford is now the norm.
    Although Subaru is still a little bit quirky with the brand’s symmetrical all-wheel drive and opposed engine design, Subaru of 2015 is a far cry from Subaru circa 2000. No longer are vehicles like the SVX, Baja and B9 Tribeca being churned out by the Japanese automobile manufacturer. Now, the focus is on mainstream, everyday models that general consumers should appreciate.

      Bcomes to each his own i guess, but if im gonna spend a considerable amount of money on a product, i want it to look nice as well. it wouldnt be the most important, but definately one of the deciding factors!

    • @Toastmaster_5000
      @Toastmaster_5000 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      skwon9642 That's understandable and not a priority for me to criticize, but you don't buy a Subaru for its looks. It may be the most bland looking in its class but it is probably the most practical, and not just because of AWD. A car like the Elantra is designed to appear to the average person, the Impreza is comparatively a niche product.

    • @bcomes1550
      @bcomes1550 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah AWD is a main reason to buy a subaru over a competitor, and it's something different than your typical civic or corolla you see everywhere. Personally I've moved past the impreza and am now considering the new mazda3

    • @Toastmaster_5000
      @Toastmaster_5000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bcomes I personally considered the 2015 Mazda 3, but I didn't get it because the infotainment system looks very last-minute, it has slightly less trunk space, I didn't like the "smiley" look of the front grill, it doesn't have AWD, it costs more, and the real deal breaker - inferior rust-proofing.

    OK kids , what I can tell you is I purchased the Imprezza wagon for my son about 4 years ago and it's been a fantastic vehicle . 70,000 miles and ONLY problem is a squeaky front seat . Otherwise, just tires and oil changes so far ....good luck kiddies !

    If your leasing for 4 years then getting rid of it, the Elantra makes more sense, If your buying for long term, or want to have a starting platform to fiddle around with in the aftermarket, the Subaru is the way to go.

    Sorry guys but I would take the Subi ANY DAY, in 15 years that Subi will still be getting thumbs up from enthusiasts and the Hyundai will likely be scrapped and recycled into a toaster oven. Night and day difference. DoubleD 613 Hyundai is the 4th largest automaker in the world for a reason. Subaru is a niche brand at best. Bottom of the barrel in terms of the Japanese brands.

    • @onoff314
      @onoff314 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    • @herczeus9341
      @herczeus9341 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      DoubleD 613 Hyundai just hired the head designer of Bentley (Part of the VW group) to take over their design team for Hyundai/Kia when their current head designer (Former head designer for Audi) retires in 2 years.
      And they also took the head of the BMW M division to start up their new performance division which will be in showrooms soon.
      P.S. Subaru is nowhere near Hyundai in terms of resources and talent. They don't have Lotus Engineering refining their suspension like Hyundai has in their back pocket for example.

      DoubleD 613 They are doing bracket knockout rounds for who is the best compact car out there right now. • @guyportmonteau5021
    @guyportmonteau5021 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    There's some good points in the review. I like both cars for different reasons. I've driven the Impreza but not the Elantra GT. For a reference point I've driven the Elantra sedan with the 2.0 engine, which delivered a good sense of power delivery and how it would be in the GT hatchback. I agree on how the Elantra GT could edge out the Impreza. It's the feature content, quality, warranty and more. Hyundai never had a Takata airbag issue as did some of the Japanese competition and that's reason enough for some to consider on the overall choice on purchase. I still keep both on the list for the difference reasons. Previously owning a Hyundai with absolutely perfect reliability would be one reason to get an Elantra, yet I tested an Impreza and it's just a overall comfortable car, yet felt like it could use some more power. Either one would make any owner happy. Fairly soon a new Impreza will be out in the market and things will get even more competitive, with a new Chevrolet Cruze about to debut, it will be interesting to see where the compact market is headed.

    I have a White 2014 Elantra GT, 14K Miles, no mechanical or electrical issues, MPG=26-30 (city) and 31+ Highway, I get compliments sometimes, because you don't see many. Also with 173 hp, it's plenty of power for the weight of this vehicle does fantastic on the highways, 0-60 mph is okay but 60-90 mph is way more fun lol
