I think "Uncertain Smile" is a beautiful and haunting song about unrequited love. The lyrics are incredibly evocative, and the music is both atmospheric and moving. The song's title is a perfect description of the feeling of being in love with someone who doesn't love you back. It’s a a atmospheric song who is clearly heartbroken, but nobody still can't help but smile when he thinks of the person he loves. This song is a reminder that even in the midst of heartbreak, there is still beauty to be found.

When I play this song, folks ask me who it is and I say "The, The", and they respond "The Who"? I say not the "Who". "The, The". I generally give up. You had to of lived through the 80's to fully appreciate this band!

Saw The The at Portsmouth Guildhall on this tour, the loudest gig, and one of the best, I have ever experienced. My hearing wasn't right for several days after.

There was an advertisement on Portuguese TV in the 80's asking youngsters to join the police force. The start of this advertisement showed a robber stealing a car at the sound of uncertain smile. Every time I hear this song I'm thrown back to this age. What a tune!

Saw this concert in May 1990 at Ancienne Belgique, Brussels. Right in the middle of exam preparations in the last year of high school. Had bought the Mind Bomb CD and it'd blown me away. The concert was fantastic. Being a drummer, The The's drummer David Palmer made a big impression: great playing on the album as well as live.
Great job on the piano!! He got bloody close to the studio version.
