The genius of Matt Johnson partnered with the stellar guitarist and harmonica player Johnny Marr. It doesn't get much better than this. Too bad most people never even heard this song in the States when it came out (well ... at least I didn't!). Can't describe how satisfying it is listening to Marr's rhythm guitar, overlaid with the lead guitar; So clean and sweet, I want it to go on forever!

@@hurpaderpp I saw Matt at the Vic in Chicago ca 2008, Marr wasn't with him, but it was a phenomenal show.
I've loved the Smiths from the late 80s but didn't know much about the scene (like Cure, New Order, Joy Division), but just always loved the great melodies paired with dark British humor.
I could go on for pages but probably don't have an actual point other than I love these blokes along with many unmentioned (Americans too).

I just can't understand why this song never became more popular. I was a mild The The fan back in the 80's and then lost touch--and only just now discovered this gem. This may become my anthem in an era of social media where I've never been less sure of the all the people out there who now seem to be more sure of themselves than ever--on war, religion, god, love, sex and death (to name a few).

I would suggest because he knew that the alcoholic, (just look at his nose), had something to say but had spent most of his life being ignored. His story was amazing and would not have come out had he not been pushed. It wasn't like he was being set up to be laughed at but rather he his life story was being respected.

    1 Timothy 1:9
We realize that law is not enacted for the righteous, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for killers of father or mother, for murderers,
    2Timothy 2:9
for which I suffer to the extent of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God cannot be chained! 10For this reason I endure all things for the sake of the elect, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11This is a trustworthy saying: If we died with Him, we will also live with Him;…

They released a video of 4 songs, with random interviews in-between each track. The songs were Slow Emotion Replay, Love Is Stronger Than Death, Dogs Of Lust and... maybe it was 3 songs? I'm working from a faulty memory here. I actually have the video (VCR) but have no idea where it is. lol
Anyway, interviews were to discuss the upcoming song's theme. It's really good. The director's surname was Pope. That's all I can remember.
