I think it's worth mentioning that if you put your trad rack on a gear sling you can use the lightweight sport harnesses for both. Also comfort really only matters if you're climbing multipitch due to hanging belays. Personally I find that the comfort of the leg loops has more to do with width than the padding.

I got the Petzl Adjama harness as my first one about 2 years back, I still use it for both trad and sport. I have never felt like the harness is lacking anything, in fact if I lost it today I'd probably buy it again.

You guys should do belay devices next, there seems to be a whole slew of new ones and it'd be interesting to see how they compare and deal with different types of climbing.

I use a Misty Mountain for everything. Harder to get than the BD, Petzl etc., but you can get a custom harness.

I love my Petzl Sitta. It’s light weight, has great mobility and the comfort is amazing considering the weight and packability. The gear loops are also fairly generous for the style of harness. (In comparison to the BD airnet)

I have the Black Diamond Solution. It's nice and lightweight but is still comfortable enough to sit/hang in. It also still has 4 gear loops. I use it for gym climbing (top rope and lead) and top roping and sport climbing outdoors.

My personal favorite is the Black Diamond Flight. Light weight, solid gear loops, adjustable everything, and incredibly comfortable. You can find it around for around $60, but it's an older model.

I've also worn a BD Momentum for years. It's the only harness I have or need.

Have a momentum harness and is super comfy good for abseiling and top roping. Plenty of gear loops I would prefer the leg loop to have the same adjuster as the waist strap but that is mainly for abseiling. Also I would like it to have a small loop at the back for my chalk bag as the haul loop is a bit too low.

my salewa harness is the only thing I use for sports, trad, and a bit of glacier safety. It has served me well over the years, but I believe you really can't go wrong with an all-rounder. Maybe the petzl sitta is next, it does seem great.

Can someone recommend a harness in which you could hang the most comfortable for a very long period of time. I’m going to be photographing climbers in some pretty long routes so the comfier the better. Thanks!!

I loved my Mammut Realization Climbing Harness Pants. They were comfortable. Stylish. Could just jump in the car and go to the gym without having to put on or take off a harness. If you wanted to boulder, there wasn’t a harness in your way. (Bonus) They freaked the gym employees out because they didn’t think you had on a harness. Their original price was high. I’m pretty sure at the time it was $150-200. No way would I have spent that much, but I got them at REI Garage so reduced, plus there was an extra off sale. I paid around $75. For a harness AND pants it was a good deal. However, they were more difficult to clip in, especially at my gym where the auto belays have two carabiners, and they have different angle clip points than normal harnesses. Finally, after only six months of just indoor climbing a couple times a week, there were holes wearing in the pants leg, and some of the plastic around the harness clip points was showing wear. The good thing about REI is that I could return them for a full refund for up to a year. But otherwise I loved those things.

I have a mammuth harness for everything. I tried some in the store and mather of fact the lighter mammuth was more comfortable than the petzel with more patting. It does every thing, light but resistant and have plenty of space to hang stuff.

I recently took my father climbing 20 years after he last climbed. His trad dad harness doesn't have a belay loop lol and you run the rope through the fabric the connects to your leg loops. This fabric is about two inches wide.

I got a sport climbing harness once only really used a few times as I found it cuts into my legs when hanging on it cause it’s lightweight there’s not much padding. I pretty much just use a good all rounder now much more comfortable. I think the lightweight harnesses are more for the elite climber when every ounce of weight counts.

I have a Petzl Luna harness and it does great, i've never been outdoor climbing (still learning to lead haha) so i dont know how well it does in that situation, but in the gym its light, has quite a few gear loops and is very comfortable to wear, and its bright teal :p Its made for women im pretty sure, so its well proportioned to fit a different body shape as well.

And I feel like he's trying to sell me stuff, or just shoot this video quickly and with the least effort possible.

any comment over climbing pants with built-in harness?
are they actually worth the price, does it make sense to buy a pair and are they actually comfortable?
i mean, they look cool, but my ability to judge them stops there

    • @Ludix147
      @Ludix147 7 ปีที่แล้ว

MitchBusy I don't see any benefit over using climbing pants with a separate harness. I mean, you would not be able to go bouldering in them. Harnesses can be really comfortable, too.

christopher xavier I really liked the 395 but wasn't so pumped about the price tag. The BD Solution was very similar to it but at a much lower price point. I have so far been quite happy with it.

I primarily use the Petzl Tour for most climbing sessions where I'm confident that they're within my onsight level, as I only need something to catch me "just in case". It's lightweight, and packable enough to stuff into a pocket.
Aside from that, I've got a Petzl Canyon, Black Diamond Vario Speed (grey), Black Diamond Momentum, and an Edelrid Joker 2.
Petzl Canyon: Bomber construction, good for sliding on the abrasive stuff, gear loops are burly... maybe too burly for some things.
B.D. Vario Speed: Lightweight, horizontal tie in which is great for descenders and not so great with things like a grigri, quick to put on, and built like a tank. BUT no gear loops.
B.D. Momentum: Good general purpose harness. That said, I rarely use it.
Edelrid Joker 2: Only one gear loop, super adjustable, great neon color to slap onto friends when they don't have a harness.

I value women's specific harness. i didn't believe in them till i one day tried the same model of harness in a mens n womens version. i actually didn't feel it till i was actually hanging on the wall. comfort, snug fit and proportions of waist n thighs made it count. they somehow slipped less around my thighs and the longer belay loops helped too. currently using a women's solution harness and loving it.

I recently bought my first harness - I'm not swimming in money, so I went for an affordable all-round entry level model (BD Momentum). I also know what once I move to the alps, I want to get into ice climbing, and while I'll only top-rope at first, one day I obviously want to lead. The Momentum doesn't have any ice clipper slots, so I will have to buy another harness in the future. Bam - two harnesses, suddenly!
Plus, it's always nice to have a second if you want to take a friend out climbing/mountaineering for the first time?
