On May 19th 2020 I had a hemorrhagic stroke which left me with aphasia, hemiparesis on right side, brain surgery and left in I.C.U. I have had a stroke 7 years ago (14/12/13) I had to go into hospital to help me to talk and walk again I wear a brace on my leg and I’m doing well with my speech now

Thank you so much for sharing! My mom recently had a stroke so I am also currently training her everyday using the AFO. Do you ever practice without the AFO?

Good for you for working with her. ❤️
I wouldn’t try to work with her without AFO without her Dr. or PT approval. They then can if it safe and if so they can recommend how to do it safely.
I am 10 post stroke and I am unable to go without my AFO......Slow and steady wins this race.

@@DockerysdreamDolls thank you for the advice! Was it difficult for you to learn how to put on the AFO by yourself? We always do it for my mom since she struggles doing it by herself. Any tips?

Hi Leo
It WAS hard. I had an amazing inpatient OT that would let (or make, depending on the day) me try and then take over before I got frustrated. It’s really important that you also have her try first but step in with a few encouraging words.
It’s also important that she wears her walking brace all day and if she has a night brace it’s important she wears that too.
If she doesn’t brace all the time she is going to have to get use it. IT HURTS TO GET USED TO!!!! Give her 30 minute break as needed. Just consider more opportunity to practice getting AFO on 😁

I also had a triple stroke on sept 28,2020& I lost use of my left arm and leg which where affected by the stroke. Drop foot causing lots of falls.
