    Fun fact: Pilots usually say "descend" when talking about going to a lower altitude, and since "ascend" sounds very similar they say "climb" when raising the altitude to avoid possible confusion over radio.

      That's dope. Explains it's use in Andor. Though it's also a thematic thing continuously through that and Rogue One representing a moral and revolutionary climb.

      As a student pilot, I can confirm. Many words can sound scrambled over the radio, and in fact, we have a special alphabet we use (alpha, bravo, Charlie, delta, echo, foxtrot, golf, etc, look up the aviation alphabet) in order to keep words from being confused. You never want to take the wrong exit off of a runway or take the wrong taxiway.

    To answer the "Why no shields?" we have 2 reasons:
    The first was mentioned in the first movie, which is that shields in the desert are a death sentence since they cause worms to go into a killing frenzy, but since they are on a tall rock outcrop I would say that the second reason is why:
    They were being shot by laser guns, and when a laser gun hits a shield it cause a huge explosion, kinda like a nuclear bomb, this was not specified in the movies, but if i had to guess a reason it's this one

    • @No_One_Important960
      @No_One_Important960 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In the books it says that nobody ever uses laser weapons because shields are so prevalent. It also said it's like a neutron bomb, so way stronger than a nuke. But I guess they just thought the lasers were a cool effect for the movie. 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @SpitFir3Tornado
      @SpitFir3Tornado 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A neutron bomb is a type of nuke designed to emit more radiation and is way less powerful than typical nuclear weapons because the energy is being emitted as radiation rather than blast or thermal energy.

  • @ambermarshall2263

    This is what Chani was fighting against the whole time - and why she rightfully feared him becoming revered as the Mahdi or a leader of her people. He was going to lead them, and 61 billion others across the universe "To Paradise." And they were willing to do it... when she was watching them fly off world to slaughter all of the remaining Great Houses, alone, she had not only lost Paul in that moment, but her people as well. I should say that this is far different than her character in the book - but it does better serve to drive home the entire point of the book - you should fear charismatic leaders, even when you think they are in your favor - they are human and have their own motivations, and they will ruthlessly sacrifice you for their own gain if it comes down to a choice between you and them.

      @@MrSmokinDragon I suppose that is a possibility but at the same time, without Paul's influence, and with the Emperor and Feyd Rautha's tactics, it could have easily spelled the end of the Fremen. I'm not trying to justify Paul's eventual actions, but it seems to me that its either of two choices: whatever notion of victory which could happen through Paul or eradication if Paul wasn't there. It seems like those are the only options (even though Paul's decisions can be questioned). I haven't read the books though, so I don't have all the pieces.

      @ambermarshall2263 I'm less so talking about Chani or the Bene Gesserit than I am the audience. Terrible victory or eventual eradication, seemingly, like I said.

    I love how Villeneuve avoided the most stupid sin of the '84 version and did *not* end this in a triumph:
    Paul has just unleashed his fanatical and powerful Fremen legions onto the Empire in a Holy War,
    As a consequence the Empire is at war, essentially with itself, and it's a total war,
    The Bene Gesserit are both still in the game and to a degree also still in control.
    Paul knows he's a tool in many ways and he now knows that he *has had* no other way and has had none right from the point when The Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam tests him in the first part.
    Essentially think of Paul Atreides as uniting the Shakespearean characters of Prince Hamlet, Macbeth *and* his opponent Macduff in one tragic character.
    Best regards
    Raoul G. Kunz

    • @rikk319
      @rikk319 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True enough, but Dune was a product of its own times, too. Frank Herbert wanted to turn the white savior trope on its ear, and had been paying attention to different European colonies around the world in the 50s and 60s fighting to gain their independence.
      All of those stories that took from Dune were derivatives and didn't follow it completely. Avatar was a straight up white savior theme, Star Wars was meant to be uncomplicated entertainment not a political thriller, A Song of Ice And Fire went full political thriller and left the "chosen one" trope behind, and The Matrix fully embraced the "chosen one" trope and focused more on philosophy, not politics.

Paul is powerful since he IS the Kwisatz Haderach and that is real, but the Lisan Al Ghaib is pure propaganda.
    For example, when Paul picks the name Muad'dib, he plays it like a joke, but given that he already knows their language and has studied the Fremen extensively, there's no reason to assume he doesn't already know what it means or its cultural significance.

    Biggest issue the movie made with Rabban's character was casting Dave Bautista--he made everyone assume the character is WAY tougher and more badass than he is lol, and it confuses people as to why he's a pushover.
    In the book, Rabban is basically a mini-baron, fat and cruel and ruthless and bloodthirsty--but not tough or a good fighter or anything, he is a giant coward if it ever comes down to a real fight.
    And when people see Dave Bautista, they are assuming the exact opposite of that kind of a character lol, so everyone gets so surprised when he turns out to be a giant bitch, since he looks like he would be a monster in a fight.

      One interesting mislead I just thought of is the fact that the camera lingers on his whip attached to his belt in one scene, and it probably made people see him as more intimidating, like he had some badass whip fighting skills. But, if you think about it, there’s no way a whip could ever be a good combat weapon. It needs to go too fast to do damage, a shield would block it. That whip was purely used to abuse his subordinates and powerless citizens of arrakeen. It’s symbolic of his character, an intimidating weapon that looks scary, and is very effective against less powerful people, but against an equal, it is useless.

    The uncle-nephew kiss was supposed to be uncomfortable. In the books, there's a strong implication that Vladimir sexually abused his nephew as a child. Explains a lot of his psychotic personality, sexual deviancy, and death wish.

    Great reaction and move, I’ve read a few of the books. If I remember correctly the Spice is basically the equivalent of Oil in the Middle East and the West taking it. Paul isn’t the hero in this story but in the end the villain. Jessica and Paul after taking the worms poison are never the same again with Paul having is Anakin Skywalker moment their after.

    I don’t think he was trying to get rid of his nephew. I think he just wanted him to have a good decent fight for once. What’s the point in slaughtering drugged up opponents?

    The book had a red headed pale woman, snd now she’s black? But that’s how it’s written lol

      Redhead-pale genes would last about one generation on Arrakis before everyone died of skin cancer. Redheads in the desert basically have to be Melanesian.
