@@Ronin-kk4bt I didn't skate for nearly nine years because of a brain tumour. The hardest part when returning to it is getting the strength back in your legs, but honestly, other than that it's pretty awesome, and the tricks return relatively quickly! Good luck to you both, man!
I skated for the first time in like 15 years this past weekend and I'm sore 2 days later. This really surprised me since I work In a school that I go up and down stairs all day.
maybe its because I'm old now but I feel an important one is to not keep pushing when your exhausted. All my worst injury's have been when I stayed at skatepark way to long.
Hey John, there is a typo on your site. On the "Who this course is for sectiion" the third bullet point has a "believe" that should be "belief". Not trying to be critical, just trying to help! If I can get up the motivation I'm going to try to get into your course. I'm a bit old and out of shape at the moment, but I believe I can get there. Keep killin' it!
And one I didn’t hear is, you can learn to skate at any age I am 53 and have just put in my first year definitely not going to give it up and yes I post my progress this activity is so much fun please get out there and try it no matter how old you are age is just a number!
The practice/time part is so important. For many people there's no quick cheat to learn tricks. I watch a lot of how to videos but not for some quick cheat code, it's just to better understand the trick and then I go put the dozens of hours of learning in, if not more. Been working on kickflips and heelflips recently and I'm sure I could explain the trick in a way that pros would agree with, but I can barely do the tricks lol. That mind body connection requires thousands of tries. Especially when you're 37 like me 😅
Great tips. If youre going to try to ride down really big hills tighten your trucks a lot more to prevent serious speed wobble. Use the road when going down a big hill instead of the sidewalk. Reason is the road is not as smooth and you wont go as fast but mainly because the transitions at sidewalk intersections take a lot of practice. and 3rdly the cars are more likely to see you if youre on the road. Last Get really fast berrings the board will roll so much smoother and youll be able to push and balance a little easier.
i use to skate a couple years ago but i wanna pick it back up i had a cruiser board and it was fun but i feel like i wanna learn tricks and this video was very helpful thankyou!
Shit, I started skating in ‘86 and am coming back to it after about 15 years off - hold your damn board however you like if it makes you happy. Same with pushing Mongo - if it feels right, do it. When it comes to “looking like a newbie”, remember that Tony Hawk used to get mocked for wearing pads and looking awkward and so did Rodney Mullen until they saw him skate - the ones mocking are the posers because they are trying to follow the crowd and look “cool”. I’ve been around long enough that my first decent setup was a Vision Ken Park with Ranalli trucks and Santa Cruz Bullet 66s and most of us were wearing hi tops - ride whatever works for you and real skaters will respect your skill not the labels you wear or the fact you followed the latest trend in wheel sizes. The Bones Brigade were pulling McTwists and Cab Airs on 10” fishtail boards with 60mm wheels and doing stair gaps in ‘84 - I dare any skatepark poser who bullies newbies over dumb shit like mall grabs to go replicate 1/10 of what was going on in the Search For Animal Chin or Ban This videos. The gatekeepers are usually the ones who are mediocre at skating but just good enough to look decent to a beginner.
Yo John! Big fan here Bro. Been watching ur channel since you lived in lbc southern Cali printing the shirts and baby onesies. Could you please do a video reviewing the knock off es accel og shoes that they sell on temu. Much respect!
If you wax something, leave your block of wax beside said obstacle whilst you skate it. It indicates to people that it’s waxed without needing to announce it
the site says 'Learn Frontside !80' I play skateboarding games but only recently got a deck and started to cruise again but is a trick called Frontside !80? or was it meant to be 180?
"The skateboard won't make you better" Uhm, well kinda true, but also not really. A setup that is heavy, will really be a total struggle for any beginner. Same goes for wider boards. Yes, they have more space to land back on, which is nice for anything that doesn't flip. But you're better off starting with like a 7.75" or 8" deck when just starting. Over time people will get stronger and a 8.5" or up will be more feasible. Also keep in mind that for ollies and learning to ride around any size will do, but large boards will still limit you.
Mongo is another normal stance. ive always skated like that. Ive tried to stop that but my balance is just better that way. you can hold a skate board any way you want. nobody cares. Great video BTW!
Who the hell just goes around waxing shit they arent skating!? I definitely never saw this yet. For slides i always wax my board so im not waxing something at the skatepark
I’m curious on what makes you pro” Or just a professional youtuber? Because there’s ams out there that are crazy good and don’t even consider themselves pro .. like Brandon bohan or whatever.. literally just went pro and I think you’ve considered yourself pro for awhile and there’s no comparison … the whole daydream video is all ams smh
I still watch these types of videos even if I’ve been skating for 2 years 😂

Just started skating and i love your videos more than every other creators, the chillness and aesthetics are unmatched
Good points John!

If you go fast, get low. Brings your centre of gravity down and stops the death wobble.
hell yeah john love your vids thanks for spreading the love skateboardin!

Long time fan of the channel and trying to get back into skateboarding and this video was perfect! great stuff John!
Very necessary and glad you didn't quit
I love this for you. Congrats on making it to this point!
Very good points John! Amazing content! 💯👍
I thought this was going to be a review on gulf wax. I use it, it gets the job done. Is it the same, or is skate brand curb wax better?

Switch mongo looks sick when done properly, in my opinion. But yeah, don't push mongo in your general stance.
But mall grab comfy
It killed me when he was waxing the support pillar 😂
hey can you review the magneto suv board please?
the site says 'Learn Frontside !80' I play skateboarding games but only recently got a deck and started to cruise again but is a trick called Frontside !80? or was it meant to be 180?
John can't tell us about secret tip #9
Been skating since 1996 and still prefer a mall grab when I’m carrying my board around. Could care less what people think of me. Shred4Life
