I have listened to Chris Barber since 1960. This is one of their best recordings. Play it for your children, grandchildren .. so that this music can survive and be enjoyed forever! Mats Elmgren
My son David was lucky enough to meet Chris last year and Chris told him that as he'd started out when he was 14 and as David was 7 at the time he said he's got 7 years advantage!😀
Oh, Man.What a zinger of a number. Evereyone’s just swinging to beat the band - literally. WQW- I just marvelat their stamina as well as their imaginatuion and pure love of the fantastic music they’re creating. WQW.
The song was originally by Thomas Dorsey that I believe is one of the black gents in the photo with him. Dorsey was the father of this type of music. He started in the church therefore called it Gospel Blues.
Only just heard of this guy and he sadly passes away R.I.P Chris you had one set of lungs dude music played by real music folk they played for the love not fame and fortune no real down to earth folk respect
I had the privilege of conducting an interview with Chris many years when he came to RAF Scampton. A real gentleman and great musician. I must say that have a great liking for his more current style with the big band what a sound.
Such driving rhythms have replaced the older trad sound but that in no means degrades it , the 1957 recording of this number is equally captivating if perhaps a tad more to the taste of the older fans like myself. Chris , Pat and all of the boys throughout the years gave us something to treasure they will never be forgotten.
Britanskiot jazz, osobeno tradicionalniot e posiromasen vo svojata ponuda. Gi nema poveke Velikanite Barber, Ball, Bilk i Ken. Tesko da ima uste takvi muzicari.Nivnats muzika e nezaboravna i so zadovolstvo slusana.Edno moe golemo Blagodaram, za ubavite momenti koi mi gi pruzija. Dusan Stojanovski
! Genial ..!
Chris Barber at his best,How much longer can he keep going.I've seen him SO many times, and he has always given his best. He's an icon. Sadly, these greats are fading, never to be replaced. These great jazz icons, both in U.K. and the U.S.worked for years to reach their place in life. Not the one night wonders we now have in the talent shows, though I have enormous respect for Simon Cowel.

The early Barber Bands had the best rythym and a great sound, this record is phenominal !!!
For over sixty years I have been a loyal follower of your music. Many thanks for that. Rest in peace Mr. Barber.
