In my teens Chris Barber and Kenny Ball etc, pushed my button in the front living room ! That is till the Fab 4 and similar company from the UK and US rang a Gong and got me rocking! I'm 79, still a DJ and love any music that soothes and moves me and others to want to dance!
I saw the band at Edinburgh Jazz Festival about 30 years ago then Pat Halcox played at our local Jazz club in Northumberland, then I saw the '3 B's' at the Sage in Newcastle - sadly now they have all passed away but I'm so blessed to say that I saw them all on stage - these type of performers are now history and very very few are left but I'm so happy to say that I saw some of them doing what they do best - play jazz
Brought up on Lonnie Donegan with the old man playing his stuff on vinyl back in the 70's and 80's, and whilst from a slightly 'later' generation it makes no difference, this is quality 'happy' music. Thanks pops
Barry Walker - what a legend! He was the sound man when I was in the Barber Band. He'd keep us up for hours at the hotel with his Knights Templar theories & had plans & books all over his room which he studied enthusiastically to help him pinpoint the treasure!
First saw him in 1956 and the last time in 2018. I met the band briefly on 2 occasions in the late 1950’s once whilst Donegan was with them. I was amazed and fortunate to be invited to Ottilie Patterson’s Tribute Concert in Comber NI and the unveiling of the plaque at her birthplace there. Also, I was able to visit her grave in Movilla Cemetery, Newtonards.
The only one left out of the "3 B's" - Saw Barber Ball and Bilk a while back at the Sage in Gateshead then shortly after that gig, we lost Kenny Ball :-(
Smooth as a Baby's Bum, absolutely musical genius at work and yet some poor, miserable Sod gives it a Thumb's down.Jeez some people must have a Shit time on Earth if they think stuff like this is bad.
