Just what I needed this morning. Your three stories entertained me & sparked desire to get out into nature after spending 5 days recovering from a spat with Covid. You are a good story teller please bless us with more postings. ❤😊

Awww, Aly, I just love hearing your stories. You certainly have a way with words.
And I agree with you that we are indeed fortunate to live in a place where we have some green all year. It brightens up the winter doldrums, for sure!
Thank you for sharing your stories! ❤

Saturday, February 03rd: Good morning! I try to always have my cell phone ready; my first and initial impulse is always to take a pic, because people rarely believe (I must be a lousy story teller!). Thanks for sharing. Happy Trails! Ross08

Please share more. You nailed my feelings exactly about the excitement of seeing a moose coming with the edge of a safety concern. Stories of moose stampeding through campgrounds scooping up hammocks in their horns and trampling tentsites with their giant hooves 😅

Bear encounter exhilarating. Leave no trace ✅. Definitely a chipmunk. Determined to be adventurous, Outcome! moose sighting awesome. My early 70’s Boy Scout backpacking trip while tarp camping before going to sleep had a Snickers bar ate half of it, set the rest on the backpack while using as a pillow. Heard something in the leaves near my head I grabbed my flashlight and their was that encounter a chipmunk looking at me with the other half of my Snickers in his or hers mouth then ran off. Thanks again.✌️♥️💪🇺🇸

Fun stories! Wish more folks would do the same as there has to be absolutely tons of adventures from the trail. I'd be happy to hear more of your stories. Sounds like it was a Red Squirrel that got the apple. We have three Red Squirrels living on our property. They are comical, aggressive, quick as lightning and go through all kinds of antics and just fun to watch They are also destructive and will chew things and destroy them. We had one literally climb our deck post and get ahold of our American flag and shredded it to bits. We know it was a Red Squirrel because I took the flag down and laid it on our deck table trying to figure out what the heck destroyed the flag. It came back and dragged it down the deck stairs where it got caught and it destroyed it even more. This time we caught him in the act. He was a little devil !

I remember that shelter before Damascus. I had heard about bear activity there before I reached that point last year, and had determined to hike from the shelter just before it all the way into Damascus. It was posted as a shelter to avoid when I stopped there for an early lunch before heading into town.
I also met Purple Haze, the woman who was bitten in the butt by a bear in the Smokies because she stayed at Carter Gap Shelter, which was well known for an aggressive bear. After that incident, she was taken in by the owner of the Discerning Hiker hostel. This was only three or four days after I spent the night there. She caught up to me at Stanimal's in Glasgow, where I spent multiple days slackpacking and resting my feet because of plantar fasciitis. I went home to Rhode Island from there to celebrate my anniversary and birthday in July and got back on trail in Massachusetts, only to slip in the ever-present mud in New Hampshire, hurting my knee and ending my thruhike attempt.
I enjoy your style of communicating your knowledge and experiences. Keep it up! 👍

I like to talk to the animals. They seem to stand still for a moment and listen 😅, and then move on nicely.

I had numerous deer encounters on my thruhike attempt last year. They seem intrigued by a calm, soothing voice, and would listen intently for as long as I cared to keep talking, and tended to watch, unafraid, as I passed by on the trail mere feet away.

Hey… just wanted to let you know what an inspiration you have been to me. I stumbled across your channel around Christmas, and have become a faithful subscriber since.
Your passion, kindness, and adventure has rubbed off on me. I finally had a chance to go on my first hike (in YEARS) and decided to document it in hopes of encouraging others to get outside.
I just uploaded my first video to YT.
    Thank you!
