"Live Expert Tips" with the NHERI SimCenter is a virtual event that touches on diverse aspects of simulation and modeling in Natural Hazards Engineering. In each session, a technical example will demonstrate features of SimCenter Tools relevant to research in natural hazards and the built environment. After the example, time is allocated for questions, answers, and discussion on the presented topic. The ability to quantify the regional-scale risk of building inventories is one of the essential components of evaluating community resilience. This study proposes a computational framework to perform high-fidelity high-resolution seismic risk, loss, and recovery assessment at a regional scale. Powered by automation and distributed computing, the framework is intended to render large-scale regional-level risk analysis computationally feasible. It is implemented on 15,336 residential woodframe buildings in the City of Los Angeles to assess regional risk and recovery due to stochastic earthquake scenarios. About the presenter: Laxman Dahal is a PhD Candidate at UCLA working under the supervision of Prof. Henry Burton. His PhD research aims to advance various facets of the performance-based earthquake engineering framework. His research work includes quantifying uncertainty in fragility parameter estimation, developing an end-to-end automation pipeline for FEMA P-58 methodology, and developing efficient strategies to scale P-58 methodology to perform regional-scale risk assessment.
