  • We're posting this video of Kung Lek Kuen for our students learning this form. You can see the form's details and power here, performed by Sifu Dario Acosta. Kung Lek Kuen or "Power Fist" is one of the very basic forms in the Eagle Claw/Ying Jow Pai system, as practiced by North Sky Kung Fu in NYC, and part of the standard set of ten forms promoted by the famous Ching Wu Association. We hope you enjoy it! Visit us at www.northskykungfu.com

    Like Eagles, we're soft until we need to be hard. It saves energy. But when we strike, the energy is totally focused, direct, and lethal.

    I do another version of the same form. We call it skill and power form. Great to see another Variation on this Northern form.

      Many Northern styles have a version of this form because they participated in the Chin Woo (Jing Mo) Association in Shanghai. Everyone included the same set of ten forms in their curriculum. We probably share other forms.

    The form of the same name at my Wushu school is heavily influenced by the Eagle Claw form, and I can definitely see a ton of similarities.

    • @northskykungfu
      @northskykungfu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This form is actually practiced by many different styles. It was one of the "Jing Wu" forms from the Shanghai Association that included Eagle Claw, Mantis, Northern Shaolin, and others. They all practiced a set of 10 including Kung Lek Kuen. So that's why it's so similar!

    What I find interesting is that the very first movement he does is similar to one in the Taekwondo form named Sipjin. Look it up. The exact motions (all though less fast and only doing it one time) are in that form. I think Taekwondo has some kung fu influence.

    • @northskykungfu
      @northskykungfu  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just took a look, yes, it's a typical block that breaks a shoulder grab. And it's said that Kung Fu is the grandfather of all martial arts so that influence is there!

    • @MaharlikaAWA
      @MaharlikaAWA 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      North Sky Kung Fu Yes and its nice to see such things. Asian martial arts tend to have so many of the same techniques here and there. Like some popular techniques that are effected passed on to other styles. And I also agree that its a block that breaks a shoulder grab. Very cool application!

    • @firedog9113
      @firedog9113 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MaharlikaAWA, Shaolin style Kung Fu is a mix of different styles added to their own style.
      Not often but old karate has movements like kung fu, c stepping, arm bars are similar to others. All styles of martial arts are like a big soup, add some here and take away a little, that's what makes them what they are.

    chin woo schools share 10 basic forms and all have their own flare to the form. Might be easier or more confusing to learn diff versions of the form....
    Very nice form. I study My jhong law horn under Grand Master Johnny Lee in Dallas. We have a very similar version of this form.

    So for learning a form do I just copy the exact moves that he is doing
    I'm sorry i'm new

    • @julieann4762
      @julieann4762 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory, you'd learn the basics - the stances, the punches, the kicks -- so you have an idea of the application and how the moves go together. So if you recognize the moves, then, yes, you would copy what he was doing, but you would know how they flow. By the way, we teach online if you want some help! Don't apologize for being new, that's great that you're interested.

    A Mantis disciple can easily grab your wrists if you leave them out like that. I would think the movements should not end with arms extended out like that. I never studied Eagle Claw though.

    • @julieann4762
      @julieann4762 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, we know that. And as such, it is indeed part of the Eagle Claw System. We have adopted the Chin Woo forms, and they are now part of our system - though we do NOT describe them as Eagle Claw forms themselves. If you read the copy above we actually refer to this form as being "Part of the Ching wu association". Thank you for checking in! What system do you practice?

      We do not have a form called Beggar Stealing Rice, but we have "Chin Lau Sai", a locking hands form. We'll put some of that up soon, we're working on it now.

    This is interesting, I've been a practitioner of predominately long fist style for about 7yrs, and this is literally almost exactly like the Gong Li Chuen long fist form. I mean literally every move of the form is the same basic principle just stylized differently, in the same order as well. I wonder which came first?

    Sorry dude, but this is not a eagle form, it's Tan Tui variations!
    Never a northern eagle form!

    • @northskykungfu
      @northskykungfu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is Kung Lek Kuen, not Tam Tui. Both this form and Tam Tui are part of the Ching Mo (Jing Woo) association curriculum -- of which we're a part. Many styles practice this, Tam Tui, and eight other forms - there are ten in all. So this is indeed one of the basic forms in the Eagle Claw system -- it is part of our curriculum. This is Eagle Claw's version of Kung Lek Kuen. You are correct in that it is not uniquely an Eagle Claw from. Thanks!

      @PetePlantasUniversoCaipira 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am a Northern Shaolin practitioner of the Ku Yu Cheung school, and I know some forms of eagle claw, and I also know the Tantuis, and I have never seen a form that had no eagle characteristics, with claws, etc.
      I'm sorry for my awful English!

    • @northskykungfu
      @northskykungfu  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you read our reply? Please look this up: Ching Mo (or Jing Woo) Association. There are 10 forms that are part of Eagle Claw and other Northern Systems. THEY ARE NOT EAGLE CLAW FORMS. They ARE part of the Eagle Claw Curriculum because our System was part of the Association. In our system, we practice the 10 Ching Mo including Tam Tui, Kung Lek Kuen, and other forms. What you might have learned is not relevant.

    • @PetePlantasUniversoCaipira
      @PetePlantasUniversoCaipira 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What I learned is not relevant? As well? I am part of the lineage of one of the main masters who passed through Jing Wu!
      North School of Ku Yu Cheung, and this is not relevant?
      Is there any mistake in your declatation my friend, or I did not quite understand what you meant!

    • @northskykungfu
      @northskykungfu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You did not understand. Again: our Eagle Claw program includes the Jing Woo forms. Did we ever say this was an Eagle Claw form? Does it say that in the description? No. It says it's part of our system. Yet you keep insisting you know better. "Relevant" means this: Your practice belongs to you. Ours belongs to us. Sifu Dario's practice belongs to him. We think respect and humility is the way to deal with the practice of other Sifus, not "Sorry dude, that's not Eagle Claw."
