I don't know what made you think you had the right to judge and rate his way of speaking. He's not a student trying to learn a new language and therfore deserves to be "corrected" for it. He's freaking AMERICAN and his mother tongue is ENGLISH. Even in America each town, each state has a different accent, intonation, own slang etc and that's completely normal. It's doesn't make them speak a lesser english. You are so full of yourself thinking only you have the "perfect english standards" from which you give yourself the right to judge others. Like WTF bro

Ok african American vernacular??? Sounds very derogatory like its a nice way of saying Ebonics and not all of us speak or talk that way. What you should've said was : in African American culture some people speak with harder tones. Like whoever came up with the term aave should be smacked! Just no.
