I have an AMD card. I have to check 'Native Depth Interpolation' in advanced because if i dont i get issues. Easiest way to see this is with The House Of the Dead 2 where you get a strange stretching of some of the graphical elements/polygons/textures. The issue occurs at the beginning and gets worse. See what happens when you kill the first two zombies in level 1 and after you go through the first door. Checking this feature fixes my graphics. I hope this helps others with the same issue.
Flycast also supports MAME's CHD format, which can compress your disc images to a tiny fraction of their original size in many cases. Use the "cdzs" (CD Zstandard), "cdzl" (CD Deflate) and "cdfl" (CD FLAC) compression formats, which all have extremely fast decompression speed and negligible impact on performance during gameplay.
Biggest issue I have with flycast is the install on my steam deck done via emudeck loses my saves whenever it updates. Would love to not have to worry about it or at least be able to change the folder where they are so it can be backed up.
Awesome! Dreamcast my fave console ever. I had all my games backed as GDI rips so this was a breeze ( in case I want a DC fix while working away on my PC without leaving and powering on the real ole beauty this will come in mighty handy)
@@VideoGameEsoterica Such a bummer.....I went for the Sinden as it's better than the glued on IR sensors of the GUn4IR....you should try it out, it's a bit complicated to set up but once it is it works really good
Just not in the production budget. I can’t buy everything and when I have GUN4IR the investment in a device that duplicates functionality for one tutorial just doesn’t work out in the end
@@VideoGameEsoterica I totally understand, maybe a sponsorship by them would be a venue to go? I'm sure a lot of people of your channel would get one if you can do a deep dive as there are none available and they sure want to promote their Lightgun
Any idea what kind of support Flycast has for VMU stuff? Also, it would be really cool if you showed how to get old DLC for Dreamcast games up and running on emulators!
I don't get why the game finds the box art. It's located in the proper folder. But it won't populate in the emulator. I put the dreamcast bios today. I rescan. It finds the cover art just like in your video. But it's just the vanilla blue color in the emulator. I don't get it.
Question: Would you say Flycast is the most *accurate* Dreamcast emulator currently? It's pretty hard to find these sort of metrics online because most comparisons focus on things the OG hardware can't do like resolution, widescreen hacks, etc. But if I'm just looking for closest to the real thing ala PCSX2's software rendering mode--In your experience, go Flycast? I prefer real hardware when I can but I might not be in the position to do so for a while. Thanks!
For starters, with 'Redream' theres a 'Pay wall' in place if you want to use higher resolutions. Ive used them all and found Flycast to be my goto. Hope this helps.
I thought Flycast doesn't use shader cache. At least the RetroArch core which i'm using. And there are no cache compilation stutters either. Edit: Seems like it does but somehow there are never stutters. Unlike DEMUL which stutters like crazy when compiling.
@@VideoGameEsoterica Great! I remember those stripped and compressed versions from back in the day. Most of the stores around me did not sell Dreamcast games (here in The Netherlands) and unfortunately we had to resort to other means to get the games..
Google 'CHDMAN' it will convert your .BIN and .CUE files to a single CHD. Read the 'README' .TXT file that comes with it. It simply explains how to use it in one sentence. Hope this helps.
Demul used to be more accurate for a while but it hasn't been updated since 2018 so right now Flycast has most likely surpassed it. Demul was also notable for being the only emulator for Naomi 2 but Flycast has this covered now. So now i think there is no reason to use Demul anymore, especially since it has major shader compilation stutter issues, which flycast somehow doesn't. The only thing about Demul is that it emulates the Hikaru board, although not very well.
Flycast has really bad frame pacing, which means lots of judder on 30fps games. You can fix this by using Flycast in Retroarch and setting the vsync interval to '2' for 30fps games.
I use the RetroArch version on a VRR screen so i don't have to mess with the vsync interval. Not sure if the standalone plays well with VRR. There's also a core option called "threaded video" or something like that and this can cause frame pacing issues in my tests (don't remember if it does when ON or OFF).
@@Imgema Yes, the threaded video option can also cause frame pacing issues, but switching it off doesn't help 30fps games. I remember the author explaining why there are frame pacing issues, but it hasn't been fixed.
@@VideoGameEsoterica OK i am trying this right now and i'll see how it runs but Redream is running well for me for most games so far, i never encountered any issues whatesoever, of course I havent tried every game yet. Well keep in touch thanks ! Always great to try some new stuff !
I switched to REDREAM since I keep getting issues with Flycast on my Beelink SER7. REDREAM runs near perfect for me in any game I throw at it, but that may not be the case for your setup. I might retry Flycast with VGE's tutorial
Flycast is my favorite emulator for DC, whereas a lot of people have crowned reDream. reDream is great, but its development is sluggish, you have to pay for higher resolution emulation, and it doesn't support RetroAchievements.
Considering Flycast is an emulator I've yet to install on my PC, thank you so much for the tutorial. Speaking of Sega, are you aware of the recently announced CD 32X port of Doom? Yes, you heard me: Someone made the first non-FMV game for the CD 32X. And it's Doom of all games!

OBS and DaVinci Resolve

It’s not super self explanatory and also does odd things sometimes
It also works with my Saturn USB adaptor which is good for the fighting games.
