  • The human voice is deeply personal and cultural, but it's also probably the most powerful sound making thing there is. Also, speech synthesis!

    How to Compose:
    - Get Roger Love's Perfect Voice, treat it as your new bible
    - Learn ear training until you can sight sing, also transcribe tons of pieces you like
There you go, now you are more familiar with the musical part of your body and mind , its like learning all your DAWs features so you can autopilot through the boring shit and have more mental resources for what matters

"Learn ear training until you can sight sing" - I started ear training about a month ago and I'm already noticing a massive improvement in my singing and piano playing. It's definitely a very overlooked practice routine!

Fascinating as ever Sarah! Finally I know what all these bearded bros talking about IPA are on about. :)
In all seriousness, the human voice is endlessly interesting and I thought this was really informative.
After your video on Sophie and how many of the guests brought up creating your own sounds I wondered if you might do another video on timbre and how samples can be manipulated into drums or pads or leads etc. I think about the human voice and sampling a lot together the topics might even feed into one another!
Thank you again for your work. I've been working so much lately and I'd been looking forward to catching up this video and have now that it's the weekend, I even wore my Sounds Good shirt today for the occasion.
    Hope you are well! xo

Really great video - I didn’t know about Pink Trombone. I learned so much about how we perceive voice by playing with formant vsts like Little Altar Boy. Melodyne also has a neat feature where you can copy the harmonics from one sample onto another, which you can use to make one voice sound approximately like another.

An excellent video, but, dear lord, you may wish to know that I got - having not interacted with his existence in any meaningful way before, and definitely not on TH-cam - an ad for bloody Jor**n Peter**n after the end of your video. Just in case you wish to/can narrow down the ad choices a bit
