  • This video will give you step by step instructions on checking and cleaning the engine EGR ports. This is a very common problem with regards to check engine lights and misfire DTCs (P0301 thru P0306, P1399, P0133) You should check for fowled spark plugs and ignition coils along with this procedure.

    2004 Honda Odyssey - A Week ago, a mechanic replaced the EGR valve and cleaned up the Intake manifold passages, and they were plugged severely. Cleaned to be sparkling clean. Installed the gaskets and buttoned up the intake maniforld. But the TCS and CEL lights came back on, and diagnostics said same as before this upgrade which was random misfire. Then I watched this video which said if these lights come on check to the top gasket if installed properly. I checked it just now, and found it was not installed properly, as the holes for passage to the EGR were covered by the gasket. That was a joy to see, because of the alternative. So I turned the gasket upside down, and buttoned up. The dash lights are gone, but I still have to drive it for a while to be sure the lights do not come back on.
    Thank you Edward Naso II

    Was about to get rid of my 2000 TL 159,000. Instead I cleaned my ports in January 2019 and it misfired a couple of weeks later. But it hasn’t misfired since. Thanks for the video the TL lives on!

    You my friend are a saint. You've probably just saved me hundreds of dollars taking my car to the shop. I took it in the other day and they couldnt figure out what was wrong or what was causing the misfiring, after following they're recommendations I ended up spending the money and buying OEM (NGK) plugs and installing them myself. After all that I still had the same issue even after the new plugs, I had misfire codes in every cylinder and also a "Random Multiple Misfire" code and after watching this and checking out my gasket it was indeed backwards. Swapped it back the correct orientation and PRESTO like dark wizardry it's running like a CHAMP again!!!
    THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    I had cleaned my intake and EGR ports about 2 years ago and thought no way they were the cause of my p1399 code and rough engine/misfires, but I followed these same steps to clean mine again just now and the rough idle went away and no more misfire. I was surprised because it wasn't even that gunked up because of the previous cleaning. But this helped for sure. THank s

    This very informative video really fix my Acura TL 2000 misfire problem, I have to actually do it twice since the ist time I only did clean 80% of the EGR port, have also made the same mistake by returning the clean gasket upside down like originally found. 2nd time , I did a really thorough cleaning....like this video showed.put all the cleaned parts back. run the car for 20 to 30 miles and my check engine light just disappeared without resetting. I save money and have peace of mind driving my car, he now runs like a champ. without fear!......Thanks Ed and more power to you!!!

    So many people suspecting the ignition coils first. With these 01 and 02 acura/honda the EGR system should be your first stop. Clean the entire system from the PCV, ports down thru and to the EGR valve (and it's ports and pintle).
    Know how to test a coil first before condemning and replacing. Not saying it's never ignition related but that on these model years the EGR is more likely.

  • @angelisone
    @angelisone 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those were all cleaned and still have the same problem.
    Stores did not have ignition coils.
    Swapped front left coil to right, right to left: no improvement.
    Praying that ignition coils will correct the problem when I get them.

  • @enasoii
    @enasoii  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Denny chuya, this is a video explaining step by step the actions required in performing a technical bulletin posted by honda/Acura..of course the egr valve should be replaced at scheduled service intervals however the dealer posted a bulletin about this service in response to misfires that were difficult to diagnosis as a result of the egr port clogging. If your 3.2 motor is not in the years specified in this video it will not pertain to you as the ports have been redesigned...someone else also posted another comment about talking about tight valves and a MAF reading: that comment has no relevance to these motors as the valves on these motors are non-adjustable. Hope this helps everyone

  • @enasoii
    @enasoii  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Dave, try driving the car....white smoke only comes from coolant (which you should not have been loosening the head bolts if you followed my instructions so your fine) or from excessive cleaning fluid down the ports, which(if the case) will burn off faster If you drive it...take it for a 5 mile spin and see if it stops, if not let me know I'll help you further

  • @djohnson4637
    @djohnson4637 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I tried this procedure. Thanks for your video. Also, I cleaned off the ports and gasket; put everything back together, reused the old gasket and set it in the right way; and also did sea foam right after. Nothing changed for me however. Still running rough and check engine light on. I have a 2003 Acura TL-s. Everything was working good until a few days ago; I changed the plugs last year and had no issues until now. But I have never changed the coil packs. my code is P1399. Can it be anything else? like the idle air control valve?

    • @enasoii
      @enasoii  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like a bad coil...try idling the engine and one at a time disconnecting each one. the engine will idle much rougher after disconnecting a good one. keep trying this until no change is noticed after unplugging a coil and that will be the one requiring replacement 👍 ..of course a proper diagnostic tool will tel you which one but this is a great way if you don't have the right equipment

  • @asewamu
    @asewamu 12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another very common cause is tight valves. Most of these engines will suffer from many misfires if the valves haven't been adjusted. A quick easy way to check is to find someone with a scan tool and at idle with all accessories off watch MAP voltage. It should be no more than 0.90v you can also do it with a volt meter but you need a wiring diagram.

I didnt do anything to the egr vavle so i dont know if i need to replace or clean that as well but i will say that my ports were beyond clogged and i mean every channel and the length of them were clogged so crossing my fingers and hope this gets me back up and running.

    I am curious to know why you chose to solve the problem with the most expensive options; i.e. plugs and coils, first instead of doing the air plenum cleaning first.

    • @enasoii
      @enasoii  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mileage would dictate replacement first. Coils and plugs should be replaced every 100,000 mi. If you haven't replaced them that's a good start You will get better fuel economy. These are known to fail

    OBD II connector is located in the tray/dish area between the seat heater switches. There is a little tray/dish like area in front of the gear selector, all the way down under the nav unit. You will have to open it / take off the cover.

    Great video! Without realizing it, my son's car went a year (10,000 miles) without an oil change - YIKES! The engine light and caution light went on this morning, and it drove very rough. Oil change light was not on. Checked the oil, and it was very low. Put some oil in it and drove to Valvaline, where they checked the codes. Misfire on 1,2,4,5 cylinders and P1399 code. Have a 10mm ratchet - have done electric and plumbing, but not cars. Should I try this, or take to a dealer??

    Seems like a bad coil, dealer will not look at without a CEL on. I made it go on once while beating on it and there were misfire codes. They swapped coils around and still same issue. Im going to pull the coils out and check for a bad one.
    Plugs are 6 months old. Im afraid to even open the cover on my engine like you did and clean it.

    Can you tell me where the OBD II connector is located on my 2001 Acura CL-S 3.2. Ran the battery down listening to the radio, now having intermittent engine shutting off but restarting going down the road. The dude at advance could not locate the connector to get a code for me. Battery connectors have been cleaned, believe atleastba contributing factor. Thank you for any and all help.

    After performing your procedure, the car would not start up. It starts cranking but the car will not completely start. It sounds like it wants to start, and it is about to, but does not. I cleaned the gasket as well as the egr ports, could that be the problem?

  • @bderty4759
    @bderty4759 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for the video. I cleaned everything out and put it back together. the gasket was in the right spot but some of the channels were completely clogged. once I put it back together and went to start it nothing happened. the starter is turning but I'm not getting any compression.the engine started before I cleaned it but now I can't even get it to turn over. my best guess is the spark plugs got some moisture on them and so it's not sparking. is that a possibility? took it apart again to let it air out. any other suggestions? The GF is pissed I effed up her car.

    • @enasoii
      @enasoii  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Robert Der I do not mention in the video but you have to reset the car's computer. The computer will recognize different airflow and will have to be reset. If you continue to try it will eventually start and relearn on its own but I might take a couple minutes to start without resetting the computer period if you don't have a computer try disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes. the spark plugs could not have gotten well keep trying you will be fine as long as you reassembled and reconnected everything properly

      Robert Der LOL glad to have helped sorry about that scare I wish I had a way to update the video without having to repost it to let people know that. It is a common comment I get here. Once those ports are clean there is so much more airflow the computer doesn't know what to do and it takes a while to recalibrate itself. The reset solves all those problems. Hopefully your misfire issues are resolved as well

      @jcast7517 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Edward Naso II (Naso Pools) well ,I had all my coils changed by mechanic, n the plugs n egr sensor. so I'm hoping this clears it.

    • @enasoii
      @enasoii  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +D Cast ugh, sorry to hear it..this was probably the only problem. a lot of mechanics unfortunately make that same mistake. when the code reads "misfire on all cylinders" many mechanics will look at the mileage of the vehicle and assume all the coil packs are weak and worn out and need to be replaced... this is a common misconception. coil packs are either good, or bad, not weak or in between, their design doesn't allow for that. besides a quick continuity tests tools would be unable to test their voltage accurately. ....rest assured, this will fix your problem!

    hello good afternoon friend, I am having a problem with my Acura Tl Type S 08. sometimes the engine light comes on. take my car to Auto Zone and made a diagnosis and OBD code P0174 appeared too lean Fuel sistem bank 2. I want to know where the MAP sensor to clean, and also buy the air filter. I'm starting with the basics. Besides my car has a sulfur smell when I go fast on the freeway, I have informed and can be catalytic, but this car has 3 catalytic, two in the engine one in front and one behind and one in the line of exhaust pipe . Not if the term refers to the Bank 2 catalytic front of the engine. Seeking recommendations to fix the problem because they do not have much money to fix my car. Also buy spark plugs to make it a Tune Up. And finally I added injector cleaner the Lucas brand in the gasoline tank
    Code P0174 possible causes
    - Intake air leaks - Faulty front heated oxygen sensor - Ignition misfiring - Faulty fuel injectors - Exhaust gas leaks - Incorrect fuel pressure - Lack of fuel - Faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor - Incorrect Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose connection

    I'm having misfires on my 02 tl type s, had misfires before and took it into the shop, they checked plugs and injectors, both brand new.. Eventually it started working again but I don't think they even knew why. Now a few months down the road its doing it again, rumbling, low idle ect. so i'll give this a try in the morning and post back if it works.

    Just want some clarification -
    1. What should I use to clean this? Non-Chlorinated Brake Cleaner?
    2. I pulled off the cover and it seems like there is a lot of moisture in there. Is this natural?

    • @enasoii
      @enasoii  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bsumaverick non-chlorinated brake cleaner or carb cleaner are fine. There should not be moisture inside check your air filter and all your intake tubes to make sure there is not a break. also that might be a sign of a bigger problem, possibly dirty injectors or non fire ignition coil , or bad valve if that moisture is unburnt fuel

    Hi Edward. Hoping I get a response from you. I have a 2000 TL. Car has 230K miles. Been running like a charm as I have taken good care of it. Past few months, on occasion, I would have trouble starting it. Then when it did start, it would run extremely rough at idle. After giving it some gas, I could on occasion get it running fine again. Other day, car ran fine. Then went out and it wouldn't start at first. Once I did get it started, its certainly running very rough, not much power, chugging and the TSC light is flashing. Would clogged EGR ports be causing this? I haven't had chance to hook up to computer to see codes yet. A few years ago, I did have to replace some coil packs. To my knowledge, the EGR ports have never been cleaned on this car. Your help would be appreciated!!

    • @enasoii
      @enasoii  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sounds like bad spark plugs. change them first... it is a very good idea to clean the EGR ports as well. If it's never been done with that kind of mileage it most certainly needs it if you're not running 93 octane consistently. Let me know I'll be happy to assist

    • @tonyode8881
      @tonyode8881 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      THanks for the reply! I am changing spark plugs as well as just doing the coil packs as well. I'll know today as I had to order the coil packs, if this is the issue. As I may have mentioned, I did clean out the EGR ports as well. Question is, if I do all of this, and it still does the same, which is barely running, what would be the next things to look at, check? Thanks again!

      Where is this located on the TL? Others I have done, were within the air cleaner. On this car, no sign of it there?? Would this really cause the car to run this poorly or not even start? BTW, I changed plugs and coils...didn't help.

      Tambien chequea las bobinas a veses pueden estar una que no tira buena chispa.
      Primero puedes intentar desconectar la bateria por 15 minutos para que se reinisie la computadora. A veses no ay ninguna falla
