Public Domain has the best soundtrack of the early Powell videos. I also had the same airwalk shoes he wore in the video along with a few other models they had in those days. A friend of mine also bought one of the Powell skateboard chairs with the original bug deck from a local surf/skate shop about 20 years ago and still has it.
My last deck before I stopped skating in high school was that Vallely Elephant in white. Loved that board and can’t remember why I stopped except that everyone else had too once we hit the 90s. So happy to have gotten back into skating now and may need to pick up a Vallely for nostalgia .
BRO that is so awesome that you mentioned Intensity Skates in MARYLAND! I didn't know the bug model was a rejected Vallely graphic, I was wondering why Powell Peralta reissued it that way. Thanks for the fun vid.
So good, wow, loved this video. 🔥The caveman cut from your front porch to the skatepark was sick! The whole skate montage with all the different camera angles and music was top-tier. Will never forget my vision shredder 2 with gullwing trucks, bullet wheels and swiss bearings of course. Thanks for another great trip through the Nostalgic Neighborhood 🙌
Haha... I wanted to echo Mike Vallely hopping off his front porch in the Public Domain video. My porch goes straight to grass, so I was like... I'll film half here, and film the landing at the park. 😂 Thanks for the feedback on the skating montage. As I get older, my skating gets more and more mediocre, but I can fluff it up with camera angles and fast cuts. Haha. Vision Shredders were so rad!!! I had teal Gullwing trucks too, with copers. Ha! Great memories indeed. Thanks for joining us on another trip through the neighborhood! 🙌
Hey! You just got a board and I just got a board. Mine is second hand but yours is new. Mine is my first medium sized board with cruising style wheels.
I’ve never had it but I like the die cut look! The border especially. Second pro deck I ever had was an elephant head. First deck I bought when getting back into skating too. Also have a set of those white Powell wheels. They roll forever!
Sweet! The Vallely Elephant was my older brothers second board while I skated the Guerrero 2nd Gen. My brother also skated the same Airwalk Prototype as Mike. We actually got to see him and Jason Lee do a demo here in San Antonio Texas probably around 88'
That's awesome! I had those same Airwalks too. I sure miss those old Prototype's with the lace savers too. My regular skatepark has a couple nice bowls, and I'm in the habit of knee sliding when I need to bail and the concrete just shreds my shoe laces.🤣
Yo 80s bro love how you roll on the classic 80s set up. What a nostalgic feeling to see you roll on the bigger wheels. Thanks. Here is a video you would like if you haven't seen it yet. It is on the channel: Nine Club Clips. The video title is: Good Graphics Equals Good Money - Kevin Staab.
I always heard it both ways and didn’t pay much attention to which was correct until I saw Mike talk about it on the Nine Club podcast interview a while back 👍
Never seen a bug 🐛 board. Never seen the elephant board either. In Australia they're extremely conservative in board retail. The bug board looks impressive. In theory bugs should appeal to more guys than elephants 🐘 The checkered part is what catches people's eyes 👀 Swapping trucks isn't that great a thing to do but sometimes its necessary. If Im putting the rails then I've got to put a tail pad underneath too.
I always drill small pilot holes for rails. That way the screws drop right in and grab the sides of the hole. Otherwise the wood screws don’t sink in and will volcano the ply.
I take that little auger tool that I used to pop the truck holes in the grip tape. And push down pretty hard into the wood to heave the screw a place to catch. Never had any issues with the volcano effect, but the pilot hole is a solid tip 🙌
Yes center punch with a hammer 🔨 and punch, then drill (going up drill sizes as you go) Clean drill bits whilst hot from friction with bees wax. Before you install the screws apply bees wax to the hole 🕳 or screw tips. Chamfer drill holes prior to installing the screws to prevent volcano wood tearout. Don't breathe in any wood dust 🤧 Lubricate and oil your drill prior to use. Wear a hat 👒 that promotes your drill brand while actually drilling the holes. Finish off with a cool beverage of your choice.
I think I’d have a hard time going back to a single kick, but I don’t think I’d mind having one for a cruiser. I like deck rails bc I’m a big guy and they help distribute the forces from board/lip slides/stalls. I DIY my deck rails from 7/16” uhmwpe cutting board slab, they last several boards.
I hear you. I rode an old school Steve Saiz for nearly a year, before going back to a modern park deck with a good sized nose. I was finding my front foot want to move up too far forward as I was skating the mini and bowls. With a modern styled deck, I can better feel for foot placement right where the nose starts to turn up. But for more street style skating, I LOVE an old school board like this!
@@TheNostalgicNeighborhood i like the '90-91 shapes, big tapered nosed, kinda squarish tail, a perfect middle ground between '80s fish shapes and popsicles. there's a younger guy skates for powell and rides the steve saiz board, absolutely rips at street/tech skating. it's pretty cool to see, and awesome that we have so many options these days
@ Yes, I totally agree about 90-91 shapes. I think you’re talking about Christopher Hiett on Powell Peralta. Can’t wait to see them release his pro board and see the exact shape he lands on!
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I got the idea watching bucky laseks TH-cam channel. He was experimenting with carbon fiber board a year or so ago. The first proto he tested he took the grip tape to his buddy that has a pro vinyl cutting business. I figured the worst that could happen with trying it on mine at home is I'd have to change the blade after which I did 🤷
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I've only tried it 2 times and it worked out well. Got some great stars and skulls and hearts. Maybe I'll make I video or something eventually. Or feel free to do so yourself if you want! You certainly have a wonderful platform 😊
@ 180 would be a bit wide for this deck. Personally, I wouldn’t go wider than 169. The Indy Stage 4 166 could be a great option too. Here’s a link to the 159’s for reference nhsskatedirect.com/products/stage-11-polished-standard-independent-skateboard-trucks?variant=40006132564125
Never liked that graphic and I’m glad Mike stuck to his guns. Love your Hosoi Indy’s. If you ever come across Mike’s Streetaxe deck from his Elephant Brand days, pick it up as they are so much fun to ride. There are some reincarnations of that deck on Streetplant as I have one but can’t beat the original. Don’t know if you are brand loyal but I picked up some Slappy trucks and I’m impressed.
Cool! I’m not super brand loyal, I considered Ace and Slappy when I got my Indy Stage 4’s. I still might get a set of slappy and ace just to try them out in the spring. Thanks for the tips 🙌
Haha. They were supposed to be Extra Tough. I don't know if this is true, but I recall hearing that the bonite was only tested in Socal where the humidity is low, but in other areas of the country that had high humidity... it affected the strength of that tar paper stuff (or whatever it was) and it just wasn't as strong. Seems plausible 🤷
Ha! I love it. I remember reading Mr Rogers once say something along the lines of…. “You aren’t just the age you are now, you’re all the ages you’ve ever been.” That’s really resonated with me through the years. 🙌
Amen Brother, I appreciate how positive and supportive you are for your fans and hobbies! Keep it going - one of the great TH-cam subs!
Right on. You just made my day with this comment. Thanks so much! 🙌
I absolutely ❤ skateboarding!
You and me both!!! 🙌👊
What an exciting day for you.
New board day.
Great 👍
New board days are always fun days, for sure!
You're still ripping it up man! Love to see your videos each week. They inspire me to do better on mine! Keep grinding! 🤙🏻
Thanks Kevin! I love seeing your videos too. You guys have such heart and soul and it really comes through. 🙌

I agree about the soundtrack, Weakness by McRad is my all time favorite skate song. Sooooo good!!! I remember those chairs, very cool!!!
So good 💪🏼 Love that they finally made this deck happen.
Right on! The Bug is such a rad graphic. 💪🏼

Thanks so much. Had fun making it 🙌
Hey! You just got a board and I just got a board.
Mine is second hand but yours is new.
Mine is my first medium sized board with cruising style wheels.
Right on. I'm envisioning that Oprah meme "You get a board, you get a board, you get a board..." 🤣
oh yeah, i remember your BMX video, didn't know you skated too, sick!
Cool! I skate a bit more than I ride bikes, but they are both super fun 🙌
I’ve never had it but I like the die cut look! The border especially. Second pro deck I ever had was an elephant head. First deck I bought when getting back into skating too. Also have a set of those white Powell wheels. They roll forever!
Cool! I like how the die cut look turned out. Yeah, the wheels are great!!! 🙌
Last time I rode a board was spring of 1987. Had a minor fall but almost had to do graduation on crutches. Thank God it healed before that.
Ouch! But hey, you graduated without the crutches! 🙌 Fun memories either way. 😎

Shredding on the skateboard 🛹 impressive 🤙 👏 👌 👍 😎 🏁
Right on! Thanks 🙏🙌
Great Vid. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching!! 🙌
Loved that you pronounced Vallely correctly!
I always heard it both ways and didn’t pay much attention to which was correct until I saw Mike talk about it on the Nine Club podcast interview a while back 👍
Love your videos! Also, you shred!!!
Thanks. Right back at ya! 🙌
Argh! You're gonna make me pick up the Vallely Bug deck for myself. 😁
I hope you do. It's a great one! 🙌
Rad Rails makes a nice tall rail! Give em a try, I'm sure you'll love em!
Right on, thanks for the tip. I'll check them out!
SO RAD!! I NEED TO SKATE!!!!
Let’s gooooo!!! 🙌

they skate together fairly often
The parts he should get my friend or a set of Qwik Truks!! they are amazing for swapping trucks and wheels back-and-forth
Good idea! 🙌
@ they are a little pricey, but they let you change setups on decks in seconds…. Priceless!
I cant help my 1st largest memory that pops up of Mike....we all know it - 1 against 4
Whoa!!! I totally forgot about that one. 🤯 I just signed up for Netflix so I can watch the other Mike throw a few punches tonight too 🤣
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I see what u did there
@@sinks88 🤣
It takes some masking tape but you can put grip tape into the cricket machine 😅
It is some next level gripage believe me 🤘

They just came out with a new blue and white chekerd bug deck.
Blue and white in addition to the black and white? That was fast!
If you didn’t pick up the gold foil vallely deck yet, it’s super nice
Awesome. It looks super cool!
Are the rails you got 14.5" long? What trucks would you recommend for this deck? I just got this deck and I LOVE the look and style of it.
Yes, the rails are 14.5” long. I have Independent 159’s on mine and they feel great.
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I can't find any 159s anywhere. Would the atlas 180mm work on this deck?
@ 180 would be a bit wide for this deck. Personally, I wouldn’t go wider than 169. The Indy Stage 4 166 could be a great option too. Here’s a link to the 159’s for reference nhsskatedirect.com/products/stage-11-polished-standard-independent-skateboard-trucks?variant=40006132564125

I feel like the 159’s with the wider wheels are a perfect fit for it. 👍
This guy did my taxes then shredded the gnar.
Haha, I love it 🤣
The team board had the bonite.X T for extra heavy

I remember Mike hating that deck. It’s definitely a very specific shape.
Interesting, I don’t recall hearing that he hated the decks shape. You learn something new every day.
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood
Don't believe people in 2024.
Only lies comes out of mouths today.
this was just rereleased? actually think its cooler graphic than the elephant its a personal thing though
Yes, it was released towards the end of September. I like them both ❤️
Did he say Mike valley is the singer for black flag..?
Yes, he’s been the lead vocalist for the last few years now
@TheNostalgicNeighborhood I did not know that. I gave up on the band once Henry Rollins Left
Black Flag

Please wear a helmet! This made me nervous!
Sorry to make you nervous. I do wear a helmet at the other skatepark when I’m skating more aggressively.
